It's been ages since I last time ran a Suicide event and I'm sure I'll probably regret this when I see the quantity of participants on opening Monday, but fuck it...I can take Melbourne.

I'll do the week 2 tournament

156mphserve

I can do one, not the first week however as I'm running a DTT event that week, but I'll try and do one in febuary

natashha
12-21-2009, 05:41 PM
I can't do the first week either (going skiing :) ), I hope somebody will step up.
I'll open the poll though, cause people asked to know a week in advance which tournament would be held.
So from now on, whoever opens the poll should set it to close on Sunday, 7 days before the beginning of the tournament.

In Sydney, one person picked Fish to win on Monday, but he isn't scheduled to play. What should I do in this situation? Should the backup be used (a moot point because his backup lost anyway), and should he be awarded a single point?

My thoughts are that since the backup should only be used in the case of a w/o, it shouldn't be used in this situation, and therefore no point should be awarded.

Any thoughts???

Ivanatis
01-11-2010, 04:30 AM
 I'd say use the backup.

If nobody else volunteers to manage Rotterdam I can but only if nobody else does as I will only be around a couple hours each day to update and I won't be around at the deadline to make sure nobody picks late so if someone else could run it that would be great but if not I will

Appreciate that much, it's enough if you update the picks. :hatoff:
There'll be someone around as usual to post the deadline or OOP, no problem.

Buenos Aires is voted, so that one goes to ExcaliburII.

As you wish.
No need this early, next Saturday is early enough, but if you want to do it now, just make clear posting IN is no longer needed as it would pointlessly lengthen the thread.

If no one else volunteers, I can do Dubai. The only problem I have is that play will probably start while I'm fast asleep, so I won't be able to see if anyone posts after the deadline.

Right then, it's yours. :) If you know you're able to do it, you don't need to prove anything to me. I'm just managing this thread, I'm not the boss of the suicide game. :armed:

Haven't you all forgotten that this is suicide not TT.
Why should we care when TT starts?
The reason behind starting on mondays, is that on regular tourneys, if the start is sunday, there are only 2-4 matches.
On GS, sunday start has at least 1/4 of matches, which is a lot.
I don't see any reason why the games hasn't started today.
I suggest for future GS not to skip that day.

If I remember well, you are Sapeod -> Ditherless -> Glory :D and I think you've played this game for long enough to be able to pull it off. But if you don't feel like managing, okay.

Is there anyone else who wants Newport?
If not, I think I would be able to run it.

Anyway, sorry again. Maybe in future I'll check over the posts and see what you have to do it etc.

Not sure about what happened today in New Haven. Are matches that were on the Sunday OOP and not started eligible to be on the Monday OOP?? If so, how will I know if the matches have had a point played or not?

I'm specifically not sure if these matches have started:
I Andreev (RUS) vs A Clement (FRA)
A Beck (GER) vs I Marchenko (UKR)
L Lacko (SVK) vs F Serra (FRA)

Okay, we need a rule about this.
I'd say
- if not started on Sunday, include the match in the Monday OOP.

Of course, need more opinions here.

Second and very important thing, I would like us to reelect Suicide Board Members.
(See a bit of these threads if you're not sure what I mean :)
http://www.menstennisforums.com/showthread.php?t=113026
http://www.menstennisforums.com/showthread.php?t=113998
but I don't think we'll need the poll)

The old Board Members are mostly retired :D and Suicide could really use more people "in charge of the game", I can't be always around and there's no point to wait until I confirm or something. (And btw I don't like it very much to be the responsible on my own :p)

So,
Björki definitely stays one of the Members, that doesn't change.
I would also like to include the two Canadian guys - 156mphserve and bandtree.

For any others, I'll let you nominate. You can nominate yourself if you want. ;)
The criteria is only to have experience in the Suicide game and know the rules.

It doesn't matter how many of us there would be, 5 or 10 or whatever. The point is to have more players who can confirm "officially" what to do in situations such as rain delays, replacements etc.

I disagree.
This game firmly insists not to start on Sunday, so games who were o the OOP of Sunday, should IMO be excluded from the Monday OOP. This way it doesn't matter if play has started or not.
Bye the way, this rule should also apply for any match which was postponed due weather or any other reason.

I would agree with ronim on this one. Just like other days, a match that was scheduled but not played one day should not be included on the next days' OOP. For one thing, it would prevent someone from including a match that had already started (I had that problem this time as I wasn't initially 100% sure that some of the matches hadn't started).

For the record, though, I decided to include those matches initially because I wasn't sure of the rule on this, and I wanted to keep the options open for people, and once I got confirmation on the rule, I didn't want to go back and changes people's picks.

Of course, that one we already have, if a match is scheduled for lets say Wednesday and postponed for Thursday, we never include it in Thursday OOP, we count it as played on Wednesday. But because we don't play Sundays, these Sunday-postponed-to-Monday matches are a bit different case.

I see all of you voted not to include them in the Monday OOP, so we'll make it like that.
Now the question is:
I think this rule should stay to end of the season and after that we will decide this issue :wavey:
Apply it from next week on or from January 1st?
IMO, we could start with it right away.

About the Board Members, I have another nomination - ronim1 :)
I forgot about her because she doesn't manage, but she's played the game for ages and regularly and (the reason why I think she should be a member if she agrees) she always has an opinion on issues like this one now.

mmarto193, I don't know about you, you've only been playing for like half a year or so, maybe it's too early. On the other hand, you're full of enthusiasm so maybe we should promote you for the next season. ;)

I would like to address the following issue:

Paragraph 7 of the rules, as they are published each tourney-

"7. Picks will be acceptable until before the start of the FIRST match each day."

I'm not sure if the meaning here is the actual start, or the published.

In any case, I don't think that the current manager -rvugt - has the right to announce a deadline ( rvugt, please don't take this personal, I think you're doing a great job ), as he posted #155 "Deadline is deadline, whether it started or not!"

What do you guys think?

You don't have to check all the time.
The rule states that the criteria is the start of the first match of the day.
There a sites like http://www.xscores.com/ who show exactly the start of each match, so this is very easy.

Well why should it? That's not the point of the game as I see it. You don't survive the day in both cases.
Point distributions are made to award risking, you can see how much the last day is worth, sometimes almost half of the tournament points, but still if you decide to play safe... it's up to you.
It just seems to me that if we start making difference between those two, then we might as well do it for losing pick and no pick for any other day, why not? IMO that's the same issue.
So I'm against separating those cases, but as usual, democracy rules, lets hear from others. :)

bandtree
11-04-2010, 04:59 PM
Hmmm...I'm inclined to say that they move on. If he had picked Mathieu as his main pick, he would have advanced. It does seem like a tricky way though to get out of a walkover situation... "if my main pick withdraws, then I'll just put his opponent as my back-up so that I'm assured to move on" I think its against the spirit of the back-up rule, but I don't think we have a specific rule saying that your back-up pick must be from a different match than your main pick. Maybe its a rule we could look at in the off-season.

ronim1
11-05-2010, 07:23 AM
I don't think that picking both player from the same match should be allowed.
Imagine being able to pick in the finals both player.....100% sure win.

In the case of a walkover, both picks that were supposed to play the match are considered invalid and are replaced by the back-up.
So there's no point picking the opponent as BU because if the original pick is invalid, so will it be the BU.
