1. Favourite country in Europe?

Germany, but I like many and it's close.

Also, hate to be the vulgar guy here but that pic can be... you know... misinterpreted. :o

2. How many languages do you speak
a) fluently,

As in better than b) and c), five. Spanish, Catalan (mother tongues), English, Italian and German. And French.

:spit: Just kidding.

No b).

c) could survive in the country, but there might be awkward situations which end up as an arrest for lewd and immoral behaviour. Of the gay kind. Don't want to be ambiguous here.

I guess Polish will qualify here and then all the languages like French, Portuguese or Dutch where I can understand a bit and know the basic stuff.

I prefer to learn a language well than to know a bit from many languages.

3. Do you like Tolkien? Why?

Yes, love him. :worship:

Guy was completely bananas but really did know how to create wonderful, fascinating, deep, bible-like stories. Also, he was an avid linguist and etymologist just like me (except a proper one). I think I'm the only person in the world whose favourite Tolkien book is The Silmarillion.

4. Which is the most exciting morphological unit for you personally?

Wut this means?? What part of my body I like the most?

5. How are you coping with Stan's marriage? Have you torn up all his photos yet? :awww:

Not well. I made a bonfire with all his photos and the returned love letters while I listened to Barbra Streisand and ate tons of chocolate wrapped up in a blanket.

^^^ :rolls: :p

1. Spain or Germany? and best thing about each one.[QUOTE]

Right now I go with Germany. Best things about Spain: weather, spontaneity, paella. Best things about Germany: organisation, sincerity, BEER.

[QUOTE]2. Doggies or Kittehs?

*Wosie cover your ears will you?*

Doggies. :)

I've never had a kitteh and would love to have one, but I just lurv goggies... they're just sweet and loving and cutefully stupid. :awww:

3. Why not just admit that you really actually deep down inside love Frenchies? :p

I would rather spend the rest of the war on top of a ladder in the middle of no man's land smoking endless cigarettes through a luminous balaclava.

1. what is the best thing about France? (and you have to name something)

There are good things in France (notice I didn't say about France).

Laetitia Casta takes the top spot. Most beautiful girl to ever exist.

2. who is (or was) your favourite french tennis player?

The Magician.

3. what do you love about Stan?

What do I NOT love about him? ;)

Seriously now, I couldn't tell... when he's on and focused (once in a decade) he's the ideal baseliner to me. Also he plays strikingly like me, except I come in a lot more and he can play.

4. what is your favourite song/book/film/show?

It changes a lot, but right now:

Song: The Promised Land by Bruce Springsteen (this is permanent actually).
Book: 1984 by Eric Arthur Blair.
Film: Das Leben der Anderen (The Lives of Others) by Random Young German Director With German-Sounding Name.
Show: Northern Exposure (this is also permanent).

5. If you could visit anywhere in the world right now where would it be?

Tuff one... so many places. I guess Scarlett Johansson's bathroom.

OK seriously, Tasmania. Don't ask me why... I saw a documentary on wombats the other day... and it's not 4 below zero there now. :o

6. what's the best thing you've ever done?#

I don't know...

I guess helping a friend two years ago when he had no one to trust him, despite the fact that I knew I'd get in trouble, and I did, I had only his word and he could have run away and left me basically with my clothes and pretty fucked up.

2) Ferrero or Ferrer?

Argh tough one again! The two best products to ever come out of my area... I'll go with Ferrer but only because the memories of that last epic are still fresh.

3) Describe yourself in one word.

French.

Dunno... I mean just one word... and I'm not gonna flatter myself. I'll go with uneasy.

4) What's your all time favourite lolcat? You have to choose one.

Cause you made me choose one...

:rolls:

http://images.cheezburger.com/completestore/2009/8/14/128947314190538109.jpg

5) Favourite quote?

Just one??? Argh you're a **** in the ****. :p

OK, if I had to choose one this would be it. I even considered tatooing this...

Fortes fortuna adiuvat ("Fortune favourt the brave").

Jose  I miss my lolcats you

Miss you too... sorry, been busy lately. :awww:

(1) If you were told you'd won the Euro Millions Lottery and could live in luxury for the rest of your life - providing you took French citizenship - would you do it? :p

haha you're mean. :rolls:

I guess I'll take the money, swallow the pride and say a piece of paper doesn't mean anything. ;)

(2) Did you enjoy your time living/working in the UK?

Absolutely not. It was the worst summer of my life for many reasons. Shit small village, evil co-workers, inhumane job (52 hours a week)... it was pretty bad.

But I'm a stubborn man and I knew I liked Britain, so I quit the job, took the money (the only good part of it) and went to travel around England with my best friend, who was also having a bad time in London. Then I came back several times when I had a Kentish gf and well, love the Isle. :D

(3) Did you cry when Stan got married?

hehe no. :p

I almost cried when he lost to that fugly Scottish pusher Murray in Wimbledon though.

(4) If you had the chnce to play a competitive tennis match against one of the following - which one woul you choose and why?
a) Rafael Nadal
b) Stan Wawrinka
c) Radek Stepanek
d) Pat Rafter (in his prime)

Wow tough question again... would love to face them all of course, but Nadal... well, we're products of the same school, I've faced many grinding physical defensive clay-courters already thank you. Stan... I would just stand there petrified and let the ball pass me without noticing. Steps, would love it but... Rafter, I'll take this one, cause he's one of the last true S&Vs and of the kind I liked: crafty, smooth, bold. And he S&V`d all the time, I'Ve never faced a complete S&Ver.

But hey look at this... :rolls:

So you meanz favourite word?

German for cemetery: Friedhof. From Friede, peace, and Hof, (here) place.

1. Favourite musical instrument to listen to?

Solo, piano. Orchestra, violin.

2. Favourite Black Adder season?

Forth one.

Wubble!

3. Capt. Flashheart >>> Del Boy Trotter, y/n?

'Course.

Only fools and horses like fools and horses.

:p

4. On a scale of 1 to 10, how genious was Rik Mayall?

7.

I regret to tell you that Cpt. Flashheart's episode was my least favourite of the season. :o

5. Your favourite Spanish language book?

No doubt about it, Cien Anyos de Soledad.

That's correct. :)

How many Laver matches have you watched and how?

About eight or nine... from friends and internet mainly. PM me for further details. ;)

Explain your love affair with Cadel Evans? :p And which cyclists (active or retired) do you like best beside him?

I love eternal runner-ups... and the guy is so constant and relentless, such an attractive style to me. Besides that way he has of riding very leaned forward is great.

Was it easier to climb Xorret de Cati up or down? Which other passes have you climbed and which would you like to?

Whatcha mean up or down? I climbed it from the northern end like in this year's Vuelta, and it was killer.

That's probably the biggest one I've climbed... also Aitana several times and some other minor ones in northern Alicante and southern Valencia. I'd like to give the tourmalet a try and beat my mate in a Ventoux TT. :D

Do you have other Francophobe tricks beside your tee and the military defeats? :D

Oh of course. Say "boo" for instance, and watch them run in panic.

Questions:

1. What is the riskiest sport you've ever tried?

Er... rugby?

I'd love to do bungee jumping though.

2. Where would you like to see the fifth slam being held, and when?

There are four slams, there's always been and there should always be four slams.

But otherwise Barcelona, March. :)

3. What's your Myers-Briggs personality type?

Say what?

4. Favourite planet? :D

Saturn! You can skate on those rings.

if the spanish crown had asked you, would you have left spain in order to conquer and settle in south america a couple of centuries ago?

No freaking idea. :rolls: Depends entirely on the circumstances.

Antimadridista 100%. Anything but Real.

IF there's a clear majority in favour, yes.

did you ever take part in that fun tomato rally in pamplona (?)?

It's in Bunyol, a town not far from mine in Valencia. No I didn't but I'd love to.

if you were in zapatero's shoes (PUN! PUN! PUN! :D ), would you give melilla and ceuta back...

They can't be given back because they were never Moroccan. They were founded by Spaniards centuries before the Kingdom of Morocco was founded.

...and would you make a case for gibraltar as a spanish city in the same way?

Who cares about a freaking rock full of monkeys?

That's correct.

I've noted it down on my notebook when I saw it. It's so true. :D

About eight or nine... from friends and internet mainly. PM me for further details.

OK I'll send you one tomorrow. Thank you. ;)

Whatcha mean up or down?

Literally :D but I was kind of joking.
Though I must say I'm really scared when I have to climb down some steep descents.

And lemme just say one more thing. Because I feel very strongly about this issue.
George Orwell - most overrated writer of all time.
Of all. Time.

Why?

I'm too lazy to do customized questions :p

1) In a battle against zombies what 3 items would you have to protect yourself?

Three Simon matches.

Many in many languages. For instance a guy from Murcia whose Spanish is inintelligible.

A Ferrari and a house.

4) Do you walk around naked in your house?

No...

5) Which 5 MTFers do you want with you to help you get off of a deserted island?

The Mods cause they're powerful. No idea seriously.

6) If you had to sing a song on live national televison, what would you pick?

The Teletubbies.

9) What's your favorite curse word?

Bollocks.

No.

12) What do you like to do when you're sick?

Complain.

Long periods of time after the first two or three days of withdrawal.

15) Do you like to walk barefoot?

Sometimes.

16) Which 5 MTF members would you want with you in a bar fight?

Clydey, Corey Feldman, Burrow, Henry Chinaski and Sodal. Guess why.

No, but a guy in my town hit a wildpig, then took it and ate it.

18) If you were injured terribly right at this moment, who would be the first person you'd ask to help take care of you?

The one that's closest to me...

19) Do you think the story of your life would make a good book/movie?

Hell no.

20) What's your favorite kind of ice cream?

Vanilla and straciatella.

25) How do you feel about celebrities adopting foreign kids?

If they're good parents, perfect.

The rest another time. :)

Why?

Wow, so many points.

Zero character development for one. They're flat, dull, cardboard greyscale avatars.
Then next is the propagation of an anarchical value system, while offering no substantial depiction of such a state or even mind-frame in reality.
And then there's the obvious hypocrisy in the fact that he expounds his views as resentful and critical toward the establishment for the sake of objective elevation and betterment of society, while in fact they are based on pure envy of power.
That, coupled with his lack of innovative literary style just makes him really really average to me.
Also I go nuts when someone says Orwell is better than Kafka , so that adds fuel to the fire.
I wish you didn't mention it, literature is one of the subjects I fly off at a tangent on, I can go on really. :p

Questions:

1. Favourite sea you've ever been to?
2. is your job what you always thought you'd like to do?
3. What is the one career field that you know you'll never work in, but you kinda wish you did?
4. Would you say your dislike of France is more of a Spanish or a British type? Or do you mix and match? :p
5. If you were a writer, what kind of books would you write?

I think Orwell objectives were not to be a classic of literature, with good and amazing books fully of rich characters, but he wanted to be someone who exposed his own ideas to gather some loyal fans to support his political ideas and I think he managed, he is now very known worldwide.
I think if theres some kind of appeal in Orwell its not in the literature field, but in the Estate theory and Contemporany State studies field ( supression of individuality, totalitarism, collective over individuality ).
The same could be said about A. Huxley, but I know he was very conected with the idea of drugging the society and birth control.
Orwell is more interesting to law students that t literature ones I guess axax.

That's right. Orwell was first and foremost a journalist and a political analyst and we like him as such. 1984 was actually his only fictional novel (as far as I know) and it's mostly interesting for the political aspect (domestic issue + international and economic relations), the linguistic (and lexicographical) aspect, the historical criticism and the philosophical aspect.

Then next is the propagation of an anarchical value system, while offering no substantial depiction of such a state or even mind-frame in reality.

No. That's wrong. He fought with the anarchists in Cataluña and it was his ideal but in Britain he was a pragmatic and did not wish a revolution. He often considered himself as an anarchist tory because he rather critical to the idea of Progress and defended freedom of speech against unmotivated censorship.

2) How similar is your online personality to your in-person persona? For instance, on the boards, are you more shy/reserved, or more open/expressive?

LOL at the title. :rolls:

How intelligent one can be considering Some Like It Hot the best comedy ever and Saving Private Ryan the best war/historical film ever?

Intelligent enough to be able to write a complete sentence in English with less than two blatant mistakes.

Do you seriously think Some Like It Hot is the best comedy ever? :speakles:

It's the best comedy I've seen. It is what comedies should be like, except it's darn hard to find two actors like Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis and a sidekick like Marilyn Monroe.

Hallo José, auch ich habe ein paar Fragen

1) When did you start to learn German and what was the reason that you choose this language?

At uni, age 18. Never really thought too much about it before, but I wanted to study Translation and Interpreting and at my uni, which is very small, I could only choose English as a first language and German or (wait for it) French as a second language. German stuff always intrigued me.

2) How similar is your online personality to your in-person persona? For instance, on the boards, are you more shy/reserved, or more open/expressive?

habibko and maybe also Nikki could comment on this, but I think I'm about the same.

3) When did you start watching tennis?

Before I could talk.

4) Which match do you consider as best of all time?

Laver-Ashe 1969 Wimbledon Semifinal.

But it's hard to pick just one.

5) What’s your favourite match of your favourite player and who is the opponent you enjoy to see him play against the most?

Of my favourite player now or all-time? Now Olympic Doubles Gold match 2008, all-time 1996 USO QF Corretja-Sampras. Not that Alex is my favest, but that's my favest match of my faves. Of course, he lost.

6) What are you most proud of?

The size of my...

honesty.

:nerner:

7) What's your best childhood memory?

No idea... my childhood wasn't too nice, I can only think of banal stuff.

8) What's your best and worst characteristic trait?

Again, best trait honesty, worst trait too much honesty. Live by the sword, die by the sword.

9) Do you have any quirks (for example having to check 10 times whether you have really closed the door)?

Checking every time I stand up if I have my wallet and phone with me, for instance.

10) What do you value most in a person?

Honesty, then sense of humour.

11) When was the last time you ate something for the first time? (what was it?)

Hmm... Käse Spätzle (the proper one with speck and eiern and all that). Last Friday in Kreuzberg.

It was

12) When did you got your first PC? When have you been using the internet for the first time and do you remember which information you searched there first?

What I searched first no idea, but I remember I used to post in a basketball forum. It was around 1999 when I first got a computer and internet connection.

13) Who do you have the best relationship with in your family?

My older sister, who lives in Italy since 1997. :o

14) You can ask 5 different members of MTF 2 questions. Who would you ask and what would you like to get to know?

Wait... if I want to ask them, I do.

15) How much do you regret it that Rafter and Henman never won Wimbledon?

Hurts like a dagger in my heart.

16) What do you expect from Stan in the coming years?

For him to complete a match without losing himself in thoughts about Lindt chocolates every third game.

17) What's your favourite match-up in tennis?

Present or past? Present Federer-Nadal, past Borg-Mac and Sampras-Agassi.

18) If you could have dinner with 3 people from any time in history, whom would you invite? Why?

Claudius the Roman Emperor - read I, Claudius and then stuff about his life, it looks like a fascinating and improbable history.

Karl Marx - really do have some things to ask him.

Albert Einstein - to see if the man himself could once and for all explain the thing to me so that I finally understand it.

It's a coincidence that two of them are German jews...

19) If you could change one thing about yourself what would it be?

The stupid cowardice that gets hold of me sometimes and is so hard to fight against.

20) What is the most valuable thing you own?

In pure materialistic terms, I guess my laptop... In philosophical terms, every one who cares for me.

Thanks for taking the time to answer :hatoff:

1. Do you consider yourself to have a gift for languages?
2. What's your greatest ambition?
3. What's the most beautiful place you've ever been to?
4. Do you have any siblings? If yes, do you miss them?
5. If you win Mr. MTF, how do you plan on achieving world peace?

Good luck with that. How classless can you be anyway, hijacking other people's threads like this, then posting their response to the attack on your sig tweaking the context?

You started first calling me ignorant. Now say you are sorry and I will erase my sig (what tweaking the contest, i just quoted you) and forgive you, kid.

As far as I remember this is the thread to ask José questions and not to have your stupid war with Antonius. Come on and take it out to a new thread.

José, if there had been the option to learn another language than German and French, would you have started to learn German?

This is why I try so hard with the titles, to get people to post. It's not my fault people prefer to bait you than ask you intelligent questions.

2- To win Wimbledon. Really now, no idea... be happy I guess, like everyone. I can't know what that means.
3- Place or city? Place, the Black Forest in summer. City, Granada. Both magical.
4- Two older sisters. I miss the elder one, and unfortunately she lives abroad since I was eleven. I hardly ever miss the other one and have around four arguments per day with her every time I'm home, but the thing that would make me happier in this world would be to see her finally getting focused and leading a happy, stable life.

That is very childish. I said you were ignorant (not-knowing) after you kept spitting out silly remarks at me for stating a fact (that Latin-American people have on average a strong tendency to dislike the Spanish accent from Spain and Spain in general) and other stuff. After that assertion, which I fully maintain, you started an all-out campaign against me all around the board. I didn't care until you let yourself fall so low.

Nope, it's a common word in the states, it may have originated from that incident, but I don't know to be honest.

I never said that! WTF I know about spanish and the spanish accent??? I don't know what you are talking about. You must misunderstood me if that was me. If you are mentioning thread why americans love Rafa the best, I said that hispanos logically prefer Rafa then Roger. WTF that has to do with an accent? I don't remember you mentioned accent at all. I certainly didn't call you names if I had said anything to you.

1- Yeah most of the people who are into football have obviously heard of him.
2- No and I've been saying this since the kid was 13. No range = no superstar.
3- Both my grandparents fought in the Republican side cause that's where Valencia was, all three years on the front. My dad's dad ended up fed up with authority for ever, but was never too interested in politics, neither was her wife. My great-grandfather from my mother's side was a member of the PSOE and was imprisoned and sentenced to inner-exile. He died in Almagro (), a small town near the Portuguese border. My two maternal grandparents weren't political either.
4- About the same as Zambia. No hard feelings, but you need to improve your knowledge of Spanish economic history. ;)
5- I like tennis at its classic best. And variety is to me an intrinsical part of the sport. Rafter and Henman were two traditional, crafty, not just booming serve fast court players, Corretja was a classic clay courter of the kind I like.

1) Favourite foreign movie (non-spanish speaking :p)

Many. Right now, Das Leben der Anderen (The Lives of Others). Also thought A Beautiful Mind and Good Will Hunting were master class, and from the old ones that I used to watch as a kid, To Kill a Mockingbird, 2001: A Space Odyssey (to cite just one by Kubrick), Friendly Persuasion, Roman Holiday (Audrey :inlove:) etc. I also found Love Actually insanely funny, but that sounds gay so I won't say it.

2) What film deserves to get the 'best picture' award at the Oscars next year?

Haven't watched any of the new films tbh. :o

3) Don't you honestly think Guga played better clay-court tennis than Corretja?

I think he was a hair less talented, but physically so superior that he was better. Good pal this Guga, always liked him.

4) Who's been the disappointment of the decade as far as tennis players go? Why?

Fatbaldian. Talent 100%.

5) Have you ever tried drugs? What kind? (not talking about Alcohol or caffeine here)

I've never smoked a cigarette nor tried any other kind of illegal drugs.

6) What are your views on vegetarianism? Would you consider becoming one in the future?

I'm still to find a person who does regular sport and is a vegetarian. Tried once, failed miserably. Would love to think it's possible.

If you could have any talent you dont have, what would it be and why?

Draw/Paint. Cause I suck at it and would like to do it well. My A&C teacher at school used to get an epileptic fit every time I handed her an assignment.

What is the best thing that anyone has ever done for you?

Nothing that stands out, but I'm thinking of one thing that I've grown to appreciate a lot with time.

When I was around 11 I was having a pretty rough time. I was getting bullied at school, my parents were about to divorce, having nasty arguments every day, my two sisters (yes, both) were suffering from deep depressions and my congenital ankle problem brought me from the tennis court to the operating room constantly. Not the best way to enter puberty. So I closed myself like an oyster, didn't talk to anybody, dind't speak in class. Then my teacher of history offered me to play a role in the theatre play he was preparing. Of course I refused, but he insisted and talked to my mum. Although I resisted again, they signed me in anyway. I met some wonderful people there, it helped me open up a bit and made me feel a bit better. Not that the following years were that good, but I will always be thankful to that man.

If you could read any book you've never read right now what would it be?

War and Peace.

What is your favourite food.

Arròs al forn. Some Valencian rice dish cooked in the oven.

Sorry if any of these have already been asked I can't be bothered to read back.

1- No. Almost all of my friends are out of town... disadvantages of people who study languages. I'll figure something out, but I don't like that night too much. Hate to pay 30 euros for a peanut.

2- Bought and received. :bounce: I proudly showed them to Habib. :D I just want to see good tennis, hopefully some good all-time grass tennis. Would be great if I could see some of that, but I'm going Thu and Sat so doubtful unless Haasi S&Vs his way to victory again.

Yup same, but you can't learn that... could tell you were going to say that btw. ;)

Of my two sisters, one got the plastic genes, the other one the more mathematical, pragmatic gifts. They tell me when I was a small kid I always wanted them to draw me horses, and that when I asked the older one I'd go "what? that's not a horse!" then ask the younger one and left happy. I'm like the older one...

Hell yeah. And count me in.

2. have you ever been mobbed/insulted over here because of your heritage?

No.

Well once I had to do an essay with four Spaniards and a German girl, and one day she reproached me something very angrily (long story, boring) telling me "in Germany things don't work like that, you can't act as if you still were in your country". She later apologised so it's ok.

I can't draw even simple things. My friends child asked me to draw her a snake and she complained about that. Things are bad when you can't even draw a snake.

The other thing I would like is to have some kind of sporting talent. I have quick reflexes but I'm very clumsy. However, I am musical and pick things up quickly so I'm not complaining too much.

Thanks for answering my questions in here earlier. It was interesting to read your answers :)

I'm surprised that you started to learn German just when you were 18 years old

Here are some new questions

1) Which tournaments have you been to so far?

2) Do you play tennis yourself? If so, when did you start?

3) Have you ever changed your opinion about a tennisplayer, may it be positive or negative? If yes, what was the reason for it?

4) What's the one thing that goes everywhere with you when you travel?

5) If you could ask God one question, what would it be?

6) What is your favourite single line from a movie?

7) What is the best gift you have ever given somebody? What is the worst?

8) How long can you go without being on the internet?

9) What do you like most about living in Germany and what the least?

10) Name 3 famous German people you like.

11) Do you think Switzerland is going to win the DC one day?

12) Which 10 places of your home country are a must-see when someone is visiting?

13) If you were a dancer on Dancing with the Stars, what celebrity would you want to dance with?

14) If you had lots of money to spend, which charity would you donate this money too and why?

15) Which tennismatches from this year have you enjoyed the most?

Pretty much all the German I know I learned in Germany or by reading stuff myself... the English department at my uni is excellent, but the German one is a joke. The first year we had a Bavarian teacher who knew jackshit about German grammar (typical with native speakers), the second one a Spanish man who couldn't speak German (literally) the third one the teacher missed almost the whole year with depression, and the fourth one I didn't need to do German cause I anerkannte (English?) my Heidelberg stay. :o

Here are some new questions

1) Which tournaments have you been to so far?

Not many... three times Valencia when it was played on clay, once Barcelona, once Milan indoor when I was a kid and some Challengers. Freu mich schon auf Halle. :bounce:

2) Do you play tennis yourself? If so, when did you start?

Yes. I started at a young age but couldn't play at a competitive level due to a congenital ankle condition that had me in and out of the operating room in my early teens. Doctors (will always be deeply thankful to them) managed to fix me 100% by the time I was 15, and then I started trying other sports I couldn't do before and lost interest in tennis a bit (just a bit). Then I started uni and couldn't play so much as before, but still love playing when I can.

3) Have you ever changed your opinion about a tennisplayer, may it be positive or negative? If yes, what was the reason for it?

Yes of course, but not radically. Many times I have great hopes in a player and then he disappoints me, typically because of lack of work ethic or excessive chokeness. External, non-tennis related stuff don't usually play such a big role for me as they do for fangirls. :p

4) What's the one thing that goes everywhere with you when you travel?

My ID. :nerner:

Seriously now, my shaver. I check for it 100 times since I forgot it in an Ireland trip and had to shave with razor blades for the first time in my life. I honestly looked like a character from a bad horrour film afterwards. :scared:

5) If you could ask God one question, what would it be?

Why, oh why didn't you let Pat and Tim win Wimby and Alex win RG?

6) What is your favourite single line from a movie?

"Oh come on, don't be so mature!"

Woody Allen's character to the teenage girl in Manhattan.

7) What is the best gift you have ever given somebody? What is the worst?

Hmm... don't know, really. Should ask them cause they always say they love it.

8) How long can you go without being on the internet?

Long periods of time, cause unfortunately I'm used to it due to the amazingly slow proceedings of German providers.

9) What do you like most about living in Germany and what the least?

Most, the general tranquility one feels there. On the train, on the street, in shops... no one talks too loud or laughs histerically or is too agitated (compared to Spain). Many other things, like beer, pudding brezel, döner kebaps, bicycle paths, quality TV (also the hilarious Bauer Sucht Frau ), decent music in clubs etc. etc.

Least, the bescheurt traffic lights and above all the terrible humour and general lack of spontaneity.

10) Name 3 famous German people you like.

Alive? Gerhard Schröder, Günter Wallraff and Lukas Podolski (if only for the legendary quote "Fussball ist wie Schach, nur ohne Würfel") :worship:

11) Do you think Switzerland is going to win the DC one day?

Can't say about one day, but I hope they do next year if they beat Spain in Rd1.

12) Which 10 places of your home country are a must-see when someone is visiting?

Valencia, Xàtiva (homer picks), Granada (most magical city I've seen), Toledo, Córdoba, Sevilla, Cádiz (love the south), Tenerife, the Pyrenees, Minorca.

13) If you were a dancer on Dancing with the Stars, what celebrity would you want to dance with?

John Travolta.

14) If you had lots of money to spend, which charity would you donate this money too and why?

I'd keep all to myself. :p

Possibly an animal rights organisation. Not that I don't care about people, but too few people care about animals who are better than us.

15) Which tennismatches from this year have you enjoyed the most?

AO Nadal-Verdasco and the final, Nadal-Nalby IW, Dent-Robredo IW (Miami?), Nadal-Djokovic and Final in Madrid (I sound like a Rafatard ), Fed-Haas and Fed-Dpot at RG, Roddick-Murray and Final () at Wimby, Ferrero-Simon and Haas-Djokovic (:hearts:) at Wimby, Federer-Murray Cinci, Dent-Navarro USO, Steps-Cilic Basel, Davydenko's matches at the WTF.

who is your favourite Blackadder character?

Blackadder: So I believe I've earned myself a two-weeks leave after all this.
Gen. Melchett: Well your commanding officer ought to be raving mad to deny you that!
Blackadder: Well you are my commanding officer Sir.
Gen. Melchett: Well...
Blackadder: Can I have a two-weeks leave?
Gen. Melchett: Certainly not!
Blackadder: Thank you Sir.
Gen. Melchett: Beh!!

Those stupid noises Fry does never fail to crack me up. :rolls:

What is your favourite British comedy?

Blackadder goes Forth, Fawlty Towers and Monty Python's Flying Circus, can't choose.

What is the best thing about christmas?

Getting to see some beloved ones again and the food, especially my great-aunt's chocolate cake.

If you could go back in time and have Alex or Tim win a slam or stick to the present day and have Stan win a slam which would you choose?

Stan all the way. Tim and Alex did a lot already, Stan winning a slam would be a huge jump.

Do you think Murray will win a slam?

I definitely do, and I think he'll do it as soon as 2010.

I don't like dancing with people anyway... dancing with men is  and dancing with girls makes me nervous. :o

Monster LOL :rolls: Münster comes from Latin Monasterium (monastery) and is one of the words for Cathedral in modern German (related to English Minster, like the York Minster). The city is nice, the biggest uni city in Germany, had its historical centre reconstructed the old way after WWII unlike most of the cities in that area, there's many churches and loads of cycle paths (it's been labelled the bycicle capital of Germany). I'm pondering the possibility of trying to stay there for longer, but that's another story. I don't miss home in Spain so much, cause home is where you make it and quite frankly I always strived for making it elsewhere.

It's what I've dreamt about all my life. ;) But there are others a lot keener to win it... my intro is probably the shortest one. :o

2) Who do you think are your strongest competitors.

Posters who've been here for more than 9 months and know more people like Excalibur or Machiavelli, but I don't know.

3) Would you go to the French Open if you won free tickets to the French Open.

Of course. I'd also bring some gasoline and matches.

4) Where are likely to go next after teaching Spanish in Germany; maybe teaching Spanish to the French.

Never. :armed: They never learn anyway, they want the whole world to speak French. I have no idea, but I might just stay in Germany as a full-time teacher.

5) Who is your pick to win Ms MTF (not necessarily who you want to win).

sunnysmydelite. If you are a non-visually impaired heterosexual male as I think you are you'll know she should so clearly win it.

Another question - have you always been modest.

Of course! I am the most modest of them all, so modest that I deserve a medal!

So you don't have such a great show as "Bauer sucht Frau" in Spain? I have never watched a full episode of it, but you can't get away from it because RTL makes so much promotion for it.

I barely watch any TV anymore as it's mostly the same you get to see. First it were the talkshow boom, then the Gerichtsshows, now it's the docusoaps and telenovelas.

I have been in Heidelberg during a school trip when I was 15 or 16 years old. Unfortunately I never came back to the town since then, even though I would have really liked to do so.

The brother of a really good friend of mine is living in Heidelberg. He works for SAP.

4- Well Karin is very convincing but money is short... besides I think two days is enough this time, let's hope I don't regret. :)

I can totally understand the money issue ;) Beside this I don't know which other players you support beside Stan and who you would be interested to see in Halle.

9- Roger is Roger... hard but not impossible IMHO. I hope they don't though. (:

It's really bad luck for Switzerland to have drawn Spain, USA and Spain again in the last years as 1st round opponent. Clay suits Stan's game, but I don't think that either Roger or Stan are up to beat Rafa in Spain on clay in a best of 5 match. Adding to this they would have to play in doubles to have any chances, whilst Spain's singles players would have a day rest on Saturday.

It also has to be seen whether Stan is available to play DC because around that time his baby must be born when I remember correctly.

As an effect, it seams like they have a much lower pain tolerance limit, which was an urban legend before, but it seams it's really all about the strange lidocain reaction, that hasn't been fully explained so far.
And I've always had that. I thought I was just a total wuss when it came to anything hospital-related, when in fact it's just genetic. Yay. :D And boo.
(when I had my tattoo done, the chick had to use three times more numbing paste than normal, and it still hurt, for example)
Needless to say, research has also shown that redheads have the highest rate of fear of doctors and hospitals. Also guilty. :o

Not necessarily you, it can be your campaign manager too. ;)

See Jose, if you lose this by one vote, you're gonna wish you had invested more in your campaign.
Now you have no one to bribe people for you. Just sayin'.

1. Of the remaining players, please state the pros and cons of each of them winning the AO, from your perspective.

Federer

PRO Erm... GOAT debate over?
CON More of the same...

Djokovic

PRO I'll be right on my prediction and tennis will get a great player back to the real top.
CON Might have to bear his father's gloating.

Murray

PRO He finally realises he has to go for it against the bigs, means more variety for the game, good player.
CON Her mother... and more annoying come ons... the British press... :scared:

Tsonga

PRO Will probably mean we'll have seen an impressive display of blasting tennis.
CON A Frog will have won something, somehow.

Davydenko

PRO Above all, there is still hope for the small ones!
CON I'll have to eat my words about him not being up to it.

Cilic

PRO Another one in the club.
CON Another step into a tennis dominated by physically gifted ballbashers.

2. On a scale of 1-10, how much do you miss Nadine? :bigcry:

Hmm hard one... would go with a) to play Jesus (oh wait, I do that already...) or with d) to puzzle the Brits. That is one awesome thing to do, cause it's very hard to leave them puzzled.

4. Favourite classical composer?

You know I've never watched The Meaning of Life completely... unforgivable, I know.

1. Please try IPAing the Catherine Tate sketch, 0:40-0:44.

Meanest thing anyone's ever done to me. Here I go:

/aːsɐtəhɛɾdɛɾsonliwʌnlaː
ɪrərɜʏndhɪəɾəndatsjʊəndatsnoːlaːɛ/

**Have to write it in two lines.

I spent literally 40 minutes doing this.

2. How do you treat books? I mean physically, are you careful, underline passages with a pen, fold edges of pages to mark them...all the habits you have with books. Have you ever thrown a book on purpose, and which one was is?

haha awesome question.

I try to treat them carefully, I really do, but I'm just such a mess that I can't... so they end up all ragged and destroyed. I console myself saying wise men say the worst a book looks, the better it is (cause it's been read a lot), but actually I'd rather have them impeccable.

3. What was the last thing you broke?

A glass of wine the other day. Consequences: 1) My carpet (STUPID carpet, the thing I hate the most about Germany, carpets everywhere...) has now some lovely and very visible red spots. 2) I had to go to town to buy another glass for my housemate... :o

4. If you had to choose a sport to practice for one day, all day(with moderate breaks), so about 12 hours, would you rather go with tae-know-do, greco-roman wrestling, or fencing?

Fencing no doubt. I'd probably fall unconscious after 5 minutes doing the other two.

5. If Murray wins the AO, I think I will cry. How about you, what would your reaction most likely be like?

It depends entirely on how he wins it. More on this when and if he does.

6. What's your Ascendant? I'd say Sagittarius.

Taurus.

Why Sagittarius?

7. How do you get along with your siblings?

Excellent rapport with my elder sister, who lives in Italy since I was 11. I get well with the other one who moves in and out of home, but we quarrel a lot cause we're very different, unlike me and the elder one, who's like a second mother to me.

8. Would you ever consider working in/on:
a) a boat/cruiser
b) a small village in the mountains of Nepal
c) a cemetery
d) a farm

a) No! Hate the sea.
b) Hmm like the mountains and the small village, not sure about Nepal.
c) I could do that at some point in life I guess.
d) Yeah no probs.

Season 1, Episode 1.

Setting: You've been investigating a case of embezzlement in a remote army base. Your brilliant deduction skills have gotten you on the hot trail for a suspect quite quickly, and you overheard two potential culprits setting up a meeting at the old helicopter hangar at midnight the same day. You sneak in and overhear their conversation, taping the incriminating confessions on your trusty dictaphone. The suspects leave, but first make a plan to go burn down the record book room, get their things, and then come back, set up a fire in the large hangar(you're in the small hangar right now, adjacent to the large one), and while the rest of the base is distracted by the fire, make their escape in an older version chopper in the smaller hangar. As you were listening in, you were hidden in a small storage room with only one way out - the door, and as they leave they pile up a huge fireproof barricade of some kind onto the door of the storage room to make sure the fire doesn't spread to the small hangar before they make their getaway. They will return in 5 hours, and you are trapped in the storage closet surrounded by helicopter spare parts.
You have your dictaphone, a nail file, and the unabridged version of War and Peace with you.
What do you do?

Both Sun and ASC in Taurus.

Yeah, no kidding.
What did you hate most about the ending?

I didn't hate it... it was just predictable and... un-epic. I think the expectations were too high though, and she had lots of limitations imposed by the story and the her morals. I fear the same will happen with lost (go on now, tell me you're one of those who think Lost is for the plebs and take me off your sig  )

What kinda poems?
Good use of War and Peace.

Love poems by Serena Williams.

More:
1. What do you expect of Stan's career this year?

Expect? For him to keep on wasting his talent and power with mental travels to the Swiss alps and diaperland.

2. Your current opinions on Andy Murray and the continuation of his career? What do you think his legacy will be like and how future generations will percieve him?

I think he's realised he had to make adjustments and is making them. He would already have two slams if it wasn't for the GOAT, and I'm more than sure he'll win multiple slams before he retires. My guess is six.

It's impossible to tell, but I suppose future generations (or we, as part of future generations) will perceive him as a product of his day, a counter-pouncher with good sense of tactic and gifted physique.

3. How happy are you that Nadine is back? :awww:

*CENSORED*

4. Did you ever hear Albeniz's Suite Española? Which was your favourite part?

The question offends.

Asturias no doot aboot it. Colossal how someone can make a single guitar (well, piano originally) sound like a whole orchestra.

5. Do you ever play computer games?

No. I'm out of my videogame era, but I play with my DS now and then. Fun and light games mostly.

6. Did you read War and Peace?

No... should I?

7. Did, or do you, ever gamble?

Seldom and very moderately. Less and less cause I keep losing. Luckily I'm too rational to get addicted (fingers crossed...).

8. Favourite Spanish speaking country, minus Spain?

Haven't been to any, couldn't say.

9. How much coffee do you drink?

A cup most mornings.

10. How do you make paella? (I've never tried, or even seen paella, know nothing about it)

Hmm... allow me to answer to this question with another question for once: do you like rabbits?

Love poems by Serena Williams.

:spit:

Expect? For him to keep on wasting his talent and power with mental travels to the Swiss alps and diaperland.

That's a bit harsh, no? :awww: He made the finals of Chennai (losing to CilicGOAT) and lost to CilicGOAT again at the AO. At least he's consistent.

6 GS? That's bold.

I didn't hate it... it was just predictable and... un-epic. I think the expectations were too high though, and she had lots of limitations imposed by the story and the her morals. I fear the same will happen with lost (go on now, tell me you're one of those who think Lost is for the plebs and take me off your sig  ) I liked Lost a lot 1st season. Then they quit showing it and I lost interest with time and don't even feel like looking for torrents or anything. I think maybe some fine day years from now I'll get all the DVDs and have a month long Lost marathon. :D

And, yeah, trufax about HP, so un-epic the last one. Horribly anticlimactic. That book ain't no Sopranos, she innt allowed to do that.

I warned you (and Wretchen told you...):

Valencian paella

On special occasions, 18th century Valencians used paelleras to cook rice in the open air of their orchards near lake Albufera. Marsh rat was one of the main ingredients of early paellas,[19] along with eel and butter beans. Novelist Vicente Blasco Ibáñez described the Valencian custom of eating marsh rats in Cañas y barro, a realist account about life among the fishermen peasants near lake Albufera.[20]

Living standards rose with the sociological changes of the late 19th century in Spain, giving rise to reunions and outings in the countryside. This led to a change of paella's ingredients as well, these being rabbit, chicken, duck, seafood and sometimes snails. This dish became so popular that in 1840 a local Spanish newspaper first used the phrase paella to refer to the recipe rather than the pan.[18]

The most widely used complete ingredient list of this era was as follows: short-grain white rice, chicken, rabbit, snails (optional), duck (optional), butter beans, great northern beans, runner beans, artichoke (a substitute for runner beans in the winter), tomatoes, fresh rosemary, sweet paprika, saffron, garlic (optional), salt, olive oil and water.[18] (Poorer Valencians, however, sometimes used nothing more than snails for meat.) It's these ingredients, and only these, that Valencians insist go into making modern Valencian paella.

1) Living in Monster, what do you miss most about Valencia?

The food, the weather and the spontaneity of the people.

2) Rosewall looks like a corpse in your avi. :sobbing: Am I evil for saying that?

Haha course not. Scary thing is that pic is from the 1998 FO Final... He looks better now though. Older, but better.

3) Why do you keep excluding Ferrero from your lists and sigs? I don't get it.

I actually don't get it either. :o I believe the reason is I consider him retired already. I cannot stand seeing the downfall of players I like. But you're right, he deserves to be back. He actually represents everything I like about a player, independent of their talent: great fighting spirit, took the most out of his chances despite a weak body constitution, tried his best to adapt to all surfaces, and with success...

4) Will you follow F1 this year, even if just for a race? :awww: I'm going to make a big effort to watch cycling as you know.

I will watch the races as far as I can. I used to watch them always until the last two or three years where I lost interest. But this year with Alonso in red and Schumacher back etc. it looks promising.

5) So who is the GOAT then? Does it even exist? Is it pointless to discuss it?

I'm leaning towards Federer. It can exist. No.

6) If you could choose one player out of the three retired in your sig to comeback in todays game and somehow this player can regain his peak powers, who would it be and why?

Evil question.

I guess Pat. Because he was a full S&Ver and I'd like to see how he fares in today's game.

7) Three songs you're loving today/recently?

Present or past? I'm mainly listening to classical music recently actually... can I answer that? :awww:

As to songs,

Harlan County by Jim Ford
One Nation under a Groove by Funkadelic
Fascination by La Roux

8) Philosophy; are you fond of it?

To a certain extent. It depends on what is being discussed, but when I'm having a philosophical discussion I always get the feeling a moot point is reached where everything is dependent on the perspective taken and there can be no absolutes, which is sort of meh in a way.

Don't know if that made sense.

9) What did you actually study at uni? I don't think I ever asked you that question. :p

You're right, he's done really well in Wimbledon for example.

Re the bold: are you a believer of the notion that players should retire at the top even if they have a few more years in them physically? Do you think playing on but at a lower level damages legacy?

Re the bold: are you a believer of the notion that players should retire at the top even if they have a few more years in them physically? Do you think playing on but at a lower level damages legacy?

I think it depends on the player and their circumstances... If someone's been winning slams and then he reaches a point where he's not in the position of winning a slam anymore, he should retire IMHO. But if they still have fuel in them they should go on. However, I don't like judging a person's life choices, we don't know half of their reasons...

Yes, answer this. I love classical music. :]

Right, three pieces that I'm listening to a lot lately:

Kaiser Walzer by Johann Strauß II
Water Music by George F. Handel
Jupiter from The Planets by Gustav Holst

And of course my favourite musical piece of all time: Intermezzo from Cavalleria Rusticana by Pietro Mascagni. Divine music that is.

Do you ever struggle in communication with Germans?

Less and less, but still sometimes. Fortunately I've reached the point where I can keep a normal conversation where they'll speak like they would speak to any German and I only get lost on some specific (usually colloquial) words or expressions, so the fluency of the conversation isn't hampered anymore.

OK serious answers now.

-You know I'm a language freak. Correcting people's mistakes is a reflex action. I welcome others correcting me so I sort of think everyone will too. I don't correct everything though. Often I correct mistakes just to piss people off, like in a troll thread.

-Hard. But I manage to do it sometimes. Thing is, maybe it's not so much about me pissing them off as about them being easily pissed off...

Hi Jose, Nadine and I decided that you should answer these questions too. :D

1) If you had to pair up 5 couples on MTF that you think could survive in a marriage, who would they be?

2) If you had to pair up 3 couples on MTF that you'd put your house on would divorce within 1 year, who would they be?

- What's your favourite piece by Chopin? I'm a big fan please don't tell me you hate him. :sobbing:

- What's your favourite planet (tellus excluded)? Give reasons.

- What's your favourite Apple App?

I guess that's it. :(

:sobbing:

I've never played Donkey Kong, it's curtains for me. :(

I saw this a mile away, as soon as I read her post I knew this was...going to happen.

But anyways, I won't have MTF time in the next few weeks so won't be checking NT at all until probably March, so please take these 20+ questions as a parting gift. :hatoff:

1. Favourite three literary characters?
2. Dostoyevski or Flaubert?
3. Worst book you ever read?
4. Favourite part of the world?
5. If it were possible, would you ever want to go to the Moon?
6. Favourite cartoon as a kid?
7. If you had to spend 5 days in any country in the world(all expenses being paid), with each one of these MTFers(being together about 15 hours a day), which countries would you choose for each person, never using a country twice, and what woud you do most of the time:
a) Habib
b) Nadine
c) Tori
d) Jen
e) Glen
f) Martin
g) Rose
h) JolanGago
i) Arend
j) Thanos/wacked82
k) Getta
8. Name one rule in tennis that you'd like to see enforced more strictly, and one rule that you think should be more lenient.
9. If you could get Finals tickets for any slam, which one would you choose and why?
10. Don't like Vivaldi so much? When you hear this album you'll totally change your mind. :worship: Lara St. John's The Four Seasons album (http://magnatune.com/artists/albums/lara-fourseasons/). You want to hear Summer, Tracks 4, 5 and 6. 6 especially. She's soooo good. :inlove: Impressions?
11. Favourite three architectural structures?
12. Opinions on the city of Dubai and it's future?
13. Do you vote?
14. In a completely unified Europe(incl. Russia and Turkey), which do you think would be the biggest problem, and which the greatest asset?
15. What do you think of modern-day monarchies?
16. Which do you find more interesting, ancient Rome or Greece?
17. Would you rather work with very young children(3-5 yo) or the elderly(80+)?
18. Opinions on the institution of marriage at this day in age?
19. Opinions on monogamy?
20. Where do you stand on the idea of licenced parenting(the proposition that parenting a child would required a permit, and a heavy set of legislated conditions)?
21. When you think about what your ideas on the "distant year 2010" were as a child, what is similar to what you expected, what is not even remotely close, and what does exist that you didn't think would?

1) Can't stand that Frog.

j/k ;) He was only half Frog anyway. :p

Minute Waltz no doubt. :]

Also this relatively unknown piece:

v399kGSe4aI

Yes, I love waltzes. :hearts:

2) hehe Tellus. :D

When I was a kid and spent those months in bed due to my ankle problems I used to read the Atlas from start to finish and I remember Jupiter and Saturn scared the hell out of me cause they were so big... but then Uranus, Neptune and Pluto scared me too cause they were very far and I thought it would be very cold. A kid's mind. I liked Mars and Venus.

I started liking Jupiter a lot more when I heard Holst's The Planets suite, one of my favourite pieces from one of my favourite composers.

3) Hard to say... you mean by Apple? If so, Mail and iCal. Any app, Quicksilver. You really need to get that one and let me teach you some tricks... :]

Interesting. I could see the Frenchie comment seeing from about 10 miles away. :p Waltzes are beautiful. :inlove: I used to be pretty shy about loving classical music but I've found some likeminded people here. :]

Never heard The Jupiter - I'll give it a listen.

Yeah I meant by apple. Quicksilver is the only one in the list I haven't got yet.

Beautiful answers, thanks.
