Hi Bibberz,

Oh, that is a lovely piece and great video. Canvey Island describes the fatal 1953 floods on the Thames estuary from the viewpoint of a football fan decrying the loss of memorabilia rather than the peoples' lives. They have such subtle, bitter viewpoints in most of their songs. Thank you! :yeah:

I really like all their work, but I saw them before "The Decline of British Sea Power" came out in a small club. They had a giant Owl on stage and they we're so tight. They also are so prolific and I have a collection of all their wonderful EPs that include some of their best work.

Another gem from "Do You Like Rock Music?"

Yea, but that's exactly what I was thinking about the 80's while I was living back then, and then about the 90's while I was living during that era. It often takes about 5 to 7 years for the quality bands and masterpiece songs from a decade to rise to the forefront as they will do if they have undeniable universal relevance and are timeless. The fogettable pop junkfood songs of the day always rot away into campy oblivion. I have no doubt I'll appreciate this decade's music much more around 2017 or so. ;)

in that song I posted "Eyes Like Yours", she and the chorus sings in Arabic in certain parts, here's what they say:

رب السماء , فيك رجائي
في عينيها أرى حياتي
آتي إليكي هذا كوني
أرجوك لبي , لبي ندائي

translates as:

Lord of Heavens, in you I find hope
In her eyes I see my life

Hey Scarecrows (baffled if that name comes from a song...early Pink Floyd...Ministry...Siouxsie and the Banshees...random?)

Actually, I posted "No Lucifer" instead of "Waving Flags" for about a half an hour in response to Bibberz's "Canvey Island" video. Then I noticed the Bible thread was getting updated at the same time and was bleeding into the "Infidelity" thread, so I decided to replace it to make certain the Bible thread doesn't get in here too. ;) "Carrion" is also a fantastic track from that first album and the video is great, so it should be posted soon. How can one choose tracks off that album without leaving something important off? Every song is a classic or near classic, and they are extremely diverse musically as well.

I really like TV on the Radio; here is their Staring at the Sun video

Between Sigur Ros and Mogwai my Most Played is covered

Scarecrows, Jen, along with you and me are on the same page quite a bit. I love Mogwai too! :worship:

Since Scarecrows has done the honors of posting some of their vids, here is a new Sigur Ros classic. They have fleshed out quite a bit since the first two albums. That is not necessarily better, maybe not even as compelling as the early stuff, but I like the new music too:

actually it's Radiohead related

i took it first time i joined a forum and i've been sticking to that, despite some Mannequin or Ex Lion Tamer deviations :p

Oh, that is enigmatic, using Wire titles, one of the most influential, but obscure bands ever (I love Elastica, but how many Wire riffs did they steal for their album  because they thought noone would notice?). This is a Radiohead Kid A blip....no way in a million years anyone picks up on that without the big clue  :

We do, its grand. Me and Jen have just bonded over mutual The Cranberries appreciation too

Back on Sigur Ros thou, I was in Bercy for Marats last match, and on the video tribute they played, the Hoppiolia tune was the music (or however its spelt - you know the one right?). I was pretty emotional I can tell ya.

But yea, another good tune from this decade is Embrace: Out of Nothing, Youtube dont have any good versions due to copyright yadayada, so if you don't know it go itunes or something, its worth it :p

There´s no doubt the 00´s are the shittest era for music. No one creates, everything is copied and without originality.

 I can see why you think that, but on the contary, this decade has been incredible for metal, indie rock, and post rock.

Much more detailed than this thread asked for, I made a list of my albums of the decade for another site. I'll post them here. There's a mix of stuff but in general people shouldn't waste their time with this list if they don't like metal.

With 2010 approaching, it seemed like a good idea to put together an idea of the best albums I've heard over the past decade. I originally wanted to just do a top 20 list, but with so many albums to choose from, that idea didn't really work out. Also, since it was very hard to pick between one album and another since there were a lot of very very good albums. I decided to split the albums into 3 tiers. Tier 1 albums are the truly great albums, the one I see as complete works of art. Tier 2 albums are great albums that while still pushing the envelope, have some kind of major weakness, whether its a few weak songs, failure to maintain unity of sound and concept over the course of the album, or it for some reason failed to make an impact on me. Tier 3 albums are albums that a huge personal impact in me at the time they came out but that objectively aren't up to the standard of the other albums on this list. Numerical rankings in tier 1 are pretty arbitrary. Also, while I have a lot of music, obviously there's lots of albums from this decade I haven't heard so I'm not pretending this is a complete list.

Tier 1 Albums:
1) Opeth - Blackwater Park
2) Symphony X - Paradise Lost
3) The Dillinger Escape Plan - Miss Machine
4) Arcade Fire - Neon Bible
5) Immortal Technique - Revolutionary Volume 2
6) Ulcerate - Everything is Fire
7) Sixx AM - The Heroin Diaries
8) Drudkh - Blood in our Wells
9) Circle Takes the Square - As the Roots Undo
10) Brand New - The Devil and God are Raging Inside Me
11) Silverchair - Diorama
12) Ephel Duath - The Painter’s Pallette
13) Deathspell Omega - Fas - Ite, Maledicti, in Ignum Aeternum
14) Unearth - The Oncoming Storm
15) The Red Chord - Fused Together in Revolving Doors
16) Wolves in the Throne Room - Two Hunters
17) Darkest Hour - Deliver Us
18) Steve Vai - Real Illusions: Reflections
19) Skies of Strife - The Rise and Fall :P (I couldn't resist)

Tier 2 Albums
Peste Noire - La Sanie des siècles - Panégyrique de la dégénérescence
Mar de Grises - Draining the Waterheart
The Decemberists - The Hazards of Love
Brand New - Daisy
AFI - Sing the Sorrow
Lykathea Aflame - Elvenefris
