Hi Tori :wavey: And welcome to the brand new Soderling Forum :D

Not much confirmed yet, apart from his first tournament which will be Chennai, then the Australian Open. Obviously then there will be the obligatory GS and Masters, plus one assumes his "home" tourneys of Bastad in July and Stockholm in October. I've heard rumour he'll play Rotterdam too. I'm sure some of the Swedish posters here will have heard more in their national press.

We won't relax too long, will we?
ABU DHABI // Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, making his UAE debut, will get the Capitala World Tennis Championship under way against Nikolay Davydenko on December 31 after the pair were pitted together for the curtain-raiser of the annual tournament.

Victory over the Russian at the Abu Dhabi International Tennis Complex would see last year’s Australian Open finalist set up a semi-final showdown with world No 2 Rafael Nadal, who has been given a first-round bye for the second year running.

In the other half of the draw Stanislas Wawrinka, replacing Fernando Verdasco who pulled out to rest a recurring foot injury, will meet world No 9 Robin Soderling in the opening day’s second match, with world No 1 Roger Federer waiting to meet the winner the following afternoon. The third-place play-off and final will take place on January 2.
See you Dec 31 ;)

Hopefully, Robin has a better schedule for the last part of 2010. He played too many small tournaments in vain this year.

Robin will play Kooyong after Chennai.

Yes, this is Robin's latest tweet:

"To all of you asking, this is my schedule for January: Abu Dhabi-Chennai-Kooyong-Melbourne...."

That is pretty rough schedule again. I noticed Nole is just playing Kooyong before the Australian Open, for example. The Abu Dhabi event with six players shouldn't involve too many matches though.

Robin's next match is Thursday vs. Stan Wawrinka:

The 2010 season is upon us (http://communities.canada.com/montrealgazette/blogs/opencourt/archive/2009/12/27/the-2010-season-is-upon-us.aspx)
http://communities.canada.com/montrealgazette/blogs/opencourt/archive/2009/12/27/the-2010-season-is-upon-us.aspx
http://communities.canada.com/montrealgazette/resized-image.ashx/__size/500x0/__key/CommunityServer.Blogs.Components.WeblogFiles/opencourt/0118.Picture-1.png

The first big event for the men starts Thursday, the Capitala World Championships (http://www.capitalawtc.com/en/Home.aspx) – a grandiose name for a six-man exhibition in Abu Dhabi.

The field isn't what it was last year, when Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal were joined by Andy Murray, Andy Roddick, James Blake and Nikolay Davydenko. Murray ended up winning the whole thing, starting his 2009 season off with a bang by defeating both Federer and Nadal (who was No. 1 at the time). He's skipping it this time, choosing instead to team up with teenage phenom Laura Robson at the mixed Hopman Cup event in Perth.

This one has Federer and Nadal, with Davydenko, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Robin Soderling and Stanislas Wawrinka (who replaces Fernando Verdasco, who pulled out last month because of the foot situation that prevented him from playing singles in Davis Cup, and hampered him much of the second half of the season).

This is fairly clearly a big money grab for the players, above and beyond the supposed "winner-take-all" prize of $250,000 U.S.

It starts on Thursday, with Soderling playing Wawrinka (the winner plays Federer in a semi-final on Friday), and Tsonga playing Davydenko (the winner plays Nadal)

Thursday already? Oh my the time has flown by.

So he's been confirmed then? It would be a bit silly to risk making the injury worse unless it's fully healed.

Yes, hard to believe, isn't it? Yea, he is already speaking with the local press and a few articles have been published today.

Nadine, I am tired of hearing about his elbow injury. We've had to have that issue in the back of our minds since the German Open in July. I hope if it is still an issue after the Australian Open, he takes a month or two off. His time off this year was pretty limited and after this exhibition, he heads off to Chennai January 4-10th:

And then Kooyong and then the Australian Open. Not the kind of schedule you would think would be good if his elbow is still iffy.

I'm not sure I'm supportive of such a schedule. He'll be worn out by Aus Open. :sobbing: The thing is though that's standing in his way of taking some time out after the AO is greed. :p He has an opportunity to gain so many points until RG and he'll need to if he intends on staying in the top 10 as his ranking will drop quite dramatically if doesn't repeat his French Open performance next year. Bah. And then there's the lucrative money deals too.

I just hope he doesn't regret this packed pre-AO schedule in the near future.

This site (http://www.rajangan.net/)states it will have a live stream for Robin's match against Wawrinka at Abu Dhabi:

Live stream options:

http://www.myp2p.eu/broadcast.php?matchid=60503&part=sports

Ok, this is my understanding of what is going on with the exhibition match, but I could be wrong, so if someone has better information, please post it:

This would be true if the Capitala World Tennis Championship web site is correct:
http://www.capitalawtc.com/en/Home.aspx#

The Davydenko/Ferrer match (Tsonga withdrew due to injury) is due to start at 3 pm in Abu Dhabi. It is currently 2 pm there now. That match should begin at 11 am GMT, or in just over 1 hour.

Robin's match with Stan will begin right after that match and is slated for 4:30 pm, so it should begin sometime around 12:30 pm GMT.

The scoreboard countdown off the confusing Capitala web site went to 0:00 a few hours ago, so I have no idea now what it was counting down. But I have checked live scores and nothing is in progress. That is also probably why none of the live stream links are working.

The live stream at http://www.rajangan.net/ shows the Capitala World Tennis Championship (http://www.rajangan.net/template_live.php?ida=5581)beginning in 1 hour, so it agrees with the Capitala web site. I'll check it out in an hour to see if the Kolya/Ferru match has begun. At least Robin's match is the second one, so if there is any confusion over getting a live link or score, all efforts will have been attempted with a match in play before his match begins.

If anyone gets any updated information, please let us know.

Update and great news!!

From Sport finally is listing a link to a live stream for the

ATP Abu Dhabi World Challenge (http://www.fromsport.com/video-143861.html)

http://www.fromsport.com/c-4.html

This has always been a reliable stream from my experience. :D

I believe the Kolya match should begin in about 45 minutes, but this is a major relief!!
========
Update: Both links are working and the matches are about to begin. :yeah:

Second link if problems with the first one:

The live stream at http://www.rajangan.net/ shows the Capitala World Tennis Championship (http://www.rajangan.net/template_live.php?ida=5581)
------------
I received word that this link didn't freeze like the other ones, so give this one a shot in the Fed match later today:

If this doesn't work, try using this stream: http://www.livescorehunter.com/streams/tennis/1/001.php

Good luck to Robin. Serra is ranked #59 and has played pretty well so far this year, making the third round at the Australian Open.

Ok, some would say Robin got lucky and the Qualifier, Igor Sijsling, beat Mischa in 3 tough sets. He is currently ranked #245, but he is from the Netherlands, and will have home court advantage:

http://www.atpworldtour.com/Tennis/Players/Si/I/Igor-Sijsling.aspx?t=mr

The draw is setting up nicely. Ljubicic, who Robin struggled against at Kooyong, was also taken out yesterday:

http://www.atpworldtour.com/posting/2010/407/mds.pdf

It is funny comparing this ATP500 with the stacked ones at the end of the season. Robin looks to have a great chance to make the Semis and maybe face Kolya there. He has plenty of room to add points in the ATP 500 tourneys. But one match at a time as they say. He plays second on Centre Court today:

http://www.atpworldtour.com/posting/2010/407/op.pdf

Nolby
02-12-2010, 06:37 AM
This is how the Rotterdam QF draw is setting up. Robin needs to beat Julien Benneteau to make it to the Semis where he will face the winner of the Kolya-Melzer QF:

http://www.atpworldtour.com/posting/2010/407/mds.pdf

Robin plays Benneteau first on Centre Court at 12:30 pm local time (11:30 am GMT):

http://www.atpworldtour.com/posting/2010/407/op.pdf

So he plays in about 4 hours. Kolya and Melzer play directly afterwards for another spot in the semis.

Well, it looks like Robin will be playing Stakhovsky, as he just beat Bolelli in a tough 3 setter. I watched this guy play Nole last week, and he supposedly had knee problems, but Nole simply routed him.

One thing about that match though that stood out; Stakhovsky is also sponsored by Lotto and wore the exact same brown with orange collar shirt that Robin wears when not wearing the white or blue. It appears Lotto gives their players all the same clothing. I hope they both don't show up wearing the same shirts. Here is a picture of Sergiy Stakhovsky from his First Round match with Nole in Rotterdam. He also has the "Lotto" logo in the same spot as Robin does with this shirt:

In the category of bizarre miscellany with enough original and vital footage to make it worth posting, I found this Dutch video entitled "Daily broadcast from the ABN-AMRO World Tennis Tournament". It is essentially a summation of the tournament from a Reporter's point of view, but contains footage of Robin in the Trophy Ceremonies and interviews and the last minute sums everything up with him as the Champion.

The parts in between are all on the tournament itself done in "local newsy" type fashion, but there is original material from the 2 to 4:30 minute marks and in the last minute (18 to 19 minute marks) that is all about Robin including more of his interview and better shots of him receiving the trophy:

After a first-round bye, Robin Soderling opens his campaign against Sergiy Stakhovsky.
There are four second round matches Thursday at the Open 13 (http://www.atpworldtour.com/Tennis/Tournaments/Marseille.aspx), led by top seed and 2004 finalist Robin Soderling (http://www.atpworldtour.com/Tennis/Players/SA49.aspx) of Sweden and No. 3 Gael Monfils (http://www.atpworldtour.com/Tennis/Players/MC65.aspx) of France. Leading off the day's action is French teenage wild card Guillaume Rufin (http://www.atpworldtour.com/Tennis/Players/RA17.aspx) against Belgian qualifier Yannick Mertens (http://www.atpworldtour.com/Tennis/Players/MG08.aspx). Both players are trying to reach their first career ATP World Tour quarter-final.

In the second match, Soderling brings a 9-3 career mark in Marseille against Sergiy Stakhovsky (http://www.atpworldtour.com/Tennis/Players/SC77.aspx) of Ukraine. The Swede, who is coming off his fifth career ATP World Tour title on Sunday in Rotterdam, had a first round bye. He won the previous meeting in the quarter-finals in Milan five years ago. Stakhovsky, who is appearing in Marseille for the first time, is trying to reach his first ATP World Tour quarter-final of the season.

In the evening session, Monfils tries to win his first match in Marseille (0-4) as he faces top Italian Andreas Seppi (http://www.atpworldtour.com/Tennis/Players/SA93.aspx). Monfils is 10-4 on the season and he's reached the semi-finals in Brisbane and Johannesburg and the quarter-finals in Rotterdam last week.

Hi gam_jonte, :wavey:

I'm watching the match; not much to say at this point. It's been a serve fest and I'm pissed at Stakhovsky for wearing the exact same "Lotto" shirt and having the same kind of haircut, so I it looks like Doppelgangers out there. :p

Soda has not been returning very well. Even on second serves. Very few rallies in this match so far.

Soda's net game looks good today. Several soft touch winners at the net.

Tiebreak!

Crap! And then the ace by Stakhovsky. This guy looked so terrible against Nole in Rotterdam. I'm a little surprised by his level of play. He is serving like Karlovic out there. Robin looks irritated...hoping this isn't Ginepri II.

Phew!! He almost got broken out of frustration!

I wish one of them would change into the brown or blue "Lotto" shirts. It is getting on my nerves looking at them both wearing the exact same shirt.

Like Soda and Soda Jr. when camera is far back. I laughed the first time, but not laughing anymore.
