London WTF RR: JMDP edges out Verdasco 6-4 3-6 7-6(1)

Fed and Murray huge candidates to advance to the SF. No way this tentative, fragile, choke-minded Pony will threat Federer at all. As for Nando, he's already nearly out.

Pony wasted several mps on Nando's serve and was broken when serving for the match :help:

Verdasco is a horrible deciding set player :help:

Brave call from Delpo to break 4*-2, mental collapse from 5*-3 30-30

Once again Verdasco cannot hold on for three sets long with the big guys. He was just lucky that it wasn't 6-2. Verdasco is the biggest joke of this WTF, he is 1-13 against higher ranked players :haha:

That third set was WTA stuff.

What mental midgetry again from Verdasco. :o 13th match against top 10 player since Murray in Oz was always going to end in a loss though, inevitably.

6th straight tiebreaker lost by brainless one.
earlier in the year he had a streak of 8 straight tiebreakers lost.
i'm sure he will break his own record very soon.
cmon dasco you can do it.

Ugh, awful, awful match from Del Potro who was just lucky that Verdasco was even more awful.

I'm hoping DelPo only plays this unfocused outside of grand slams, because there's no excuse for that garbage on display today.

What's wrong with Verdasco seriously? Fought so hard to come back on equal terms and then decide to throw away the tiebreak.

Typical Verdasco, I mean he can't maintain the concetration on the same level troughout the whole match, therefore he always loses matches against the best players in the final set, even if he plays very well through long sequences of the match.

Crappy, nervous match from both. DelPotro should have closed it out a lot earlier, (3 MPs after he had a MP on Verdasco's serve earlier on in the set) to serve it out but decided to give the crowd a little more nail-biting to do and choked horribly.
Glad he managed to do so in the TB. Congrats, DelPo! :hatoff:

Verdasco was Fiasco once again :help:. Glad he's out of this (well, some 80% sure of that).

Good win by Del Potro, but the match was mediocre..Good tennis from time to time, but neither of them will do any damagage with play like that!

Djokovic will roll no one because it's on the other group and neither of these chokers is going to the SF :wavey:

crappy match from delpotro and that has got something to do with an inconsistent opponent like verdasco.......federer will get the best out of delpotro in the next match.......

I say it once again - Del Potro is the strongest mentally player this year, his tie-break record in the final set tie-break this year: 5-0.

BTW, in their only meeting, three years ago in Segovia (CH), Del Potro also won 7-6 in the third saving 2 match points in the tie-break.

I almost said he's definitely out, and then I realized

He could still qualify if Federer beats both Murray and Del Potro like in 2, and then Chokedasco beats Murray in 2.

Chances of that happening though: slim to none. :wavey:

Maybe Del Pony is choky in some matches but he has shown against Roddick several times and against Fed at the US Open that he is not always a choker. Plus he won today. I don't think Del Pony really has an enormous choking problem. Davydenko kinda choked against Djokovic several times yesterday but I also don't think that labels sticks to him. Verdasco, on the other hand... world-class choker

I call him FERNANDO FIASCO :o

delpo didnt play well... he doesnt seemed focused, not too surprising though with it being the end of the season, either way del potro is anything but a chocker, mentally he is on par with nadal, just a bad game from him. he has to beat federer now to qualify, which is very unlikely.

watched the match... it was no beautiful tennis to say the least... **** it's the Masters Cup! very disappointing

Your signature is so ironic :haha:

You think Safin is shit, a two time slam champion and world number 1 and it's not okay for me to say Bolleli is shit, has he even won a title?

Even if Fed beats Murray, the match Fed vs Del Potro would be decisive (though JMDP would have fewer chances of advancing to SF, I think he'd need to beat Fed in 2 in that scenario, unless Nando beats Murray).

However, with the form Pony has been showing, he'll be lucky to win a set off Fed.

DelPot has always been strong at tiebreaks..... Verdasco is the precise opposite when off clay.

Standard tiebreak models would rate a h2h between them as around an 85% chance of DelPot winning, so the result wasn't overly surprising.

If Roger wins Juan is out. He would have to beat Roger and Murray to lose against Verdasco (really unlikely).

I don't see why that's true. If Federer beats Murray, Delpo beats Federer and Murray beats Verdasco, then Murray, Federer and Del Potro will all have a 2-1 record overall and 1-1 record against each other, so it will come down to sets won/lost

I see much jealousy here... wait how many Top 50 British players do you have?
Hmmm... exactly... 1. :o
How many Spaniards? 10.
