I can't recall if we do this yearly competition; I've been posting here for 3.5 years and can't remember that  but if not, let's start. :) Post your nominations for the best "best of 3" set match of the year, and during the few weeks of the off-season :o we can vote for the best one :bounce: I want to keep this open so people can nominate WTF matches as well. :)

My first nomination: Madrid SF: Nadal df Djokovic 3-6, 7-6(5), 7-6(9) :worship:

I guess no poll was necessary. it was a general consensus. This match pawned them all :rocker2:

I didn't get to see any 3-set matches the whole year, but score-board wise you can't argue with that match. Del Potro d. Nadal 4-6, 6-3, 6-7(3) in Miami quarter-finals was also a tasty upset given that Nadal had won the Australian Open and Indian Wells.

I think the Madrid SF between Nadal and Djokovic is an outright winner in this one. But I'd also nominate Davydenko vs Djokovic Shanghai SF - that was high quality stuff too. :worship:

I liked very much Stepanek-Verdasco Brisbane final.

Shanghai SF between Davydenko and Djokovic was impressive.

I would go for the semi and final in Cinci: Semi: Fed - Murray 6-3, 7-6(8) and final: Fed - Djokovic 6-1, 7-5 in terms of high quality tennis. That was truly TMF...

So, you're saying it was a "Best of 2 set match"??? lol:D

Even if you win/lose in two sets, it's still a best of 3 set match!

Del Potro-Söderling deserves a mention imo : little variety but unbelievable power from both (and retrievals from Del Potro), especially in middle of 3rd set.

FOUR HOURS in front of Nadal - Spanish Bull's - raving home crowd. Talk about pressure.

Most commentators have agreed this was best match of the year. In fact, Nadal had to literally fall on his sword to win it. He hasn't been the same player since. Withdrew from Wimbledon as defending Champion! Nadal is now being beaten by lesser players. This epic match did take Novak down for awhile too, but he has been coming back.

And yet there were SOME on MTF that immediately denounced the Madrid match as terrible. This is what really convinced me there are some absolute idiots on MTF.

thats right, Nadal didn't get overpowered by a better player on the dat by Soderking

He didn't get streamrolled on by Del Potro at the US OPEN

and he didn't go 0-3 at the WTF

And Nole has always been a model of consistency, especially at Wimbledon 2008

Nadal def. Djokovic 3-6 7-6 7-6 hands down. Arguably the best match of the year for both players. Nadal wasn't the same since that match. And Djokovic lost a lot of confidence afterwards.
