Best match of the four singles matches so far.

So gutted for Kolya, he played an awesome match, Nole did well to repel him at the end though.

11-23-2009, 10:53 PM
Davy the better player till 4-4 in the second, then blew up after a netcord, 4x errors in a row.

Start of second on serve, netcord, 4x errors in a row.

Breaks back at end of 3rd, serving to make it a minimum a tiebreak, 4x errors in a row.

Djoko was largely the defender for the first half of the match, until Davy's error bursts let him into the match.

Good game Novak. Serve was shit through out...I enjoyed his controlled aggressiveness lmfao, but some of the strokes were laughable...Hitting the ball hard down the middle isn't hurting anyone Nole. Best one was the back hand in the 9th game of the 3rd, fucking smacks a backhand 'down the line' except it's STRAIGHT down the middle, Kolya hits for winner.

I love this mental case

There were flashes of greatness from Nole but most of the match, he's tentative. Davydenko's level dropped near the end of 2nd set and let Nole back to the match.

Lol to some best match of tournament to others the worst. I thought it was the best match due to the turns and momentum changes, Denko choked on serve at 5 all, but you have to credit Novak, his groundies are deep powerful and consistant....only Murray or Fed at their best could beat him this tournament.

losing game at 4-4 30-0 in 2nd game was a key moment in this match, since then Kolya played shitty

Denko had his chance to win theoretically this match 6-3 6-3, at 4:3* (30-15) played very good backhand down the line but D'Joke replied with great, safe cross-court forehand and moment later played another cross-court forehand "contre pied". D'Joke knows geometry of the court very well, I think it's one of his biggest strengths, an ability to choose the best solutions in the right moment.

But he rarely used it today. He was mostly trying to outgrind Denko and that is tough job.
Also, if you have 5 service winners in one game by serving slice to forehand on the juice side, you should not abandon that tactic. Strange from Novak there, he is usually smarter with serve.
And going for the 2nd could become dangerous, he is averaging 4-5 DFs lately.

As to the jersey swap - it was a message of inter-national friendship. Serbia and Russia have been friends for hundreds of years. Davy and Novak are also friends. They wanted to send a message about Slavic Unity.

Ever seen that video - I think from Roland Garros 2007 - Nole and Davy are in the locker room chatting with Mcenroe. Novak puts his arm across Davy's shoulder and says - `Him, Me, Finals'. The Russian and the Serb. The jersey swap was a message that they are still friends, still respect each other.

Congrats Nole!

Also, I saw an interview with Marat on Russian tennis channel. He was sad to say that the tour has changed a lot since the time he entered it. No friendship, isolation of players to their teams only (too many ppl around them imo). Marat recalls that players used to hang around and have fun together, no hostility after matches. I think Djokovic wants to bring it back. GL, you'll need it, Nole

Probably the most consistently solid match of the tournament so far. Djokovic came out pounding the dtl BH, but when Davy got him moving, roles were reversed. Some very solid hitting from both wings down the stretch, particularly the cc BH exchanges. These two should probably emerge from group B as long as there is no meltdown, but the Davy-Soderking match is the key.

Yep. Thanks for expressing exactly what I wasn't capable of. :yeah:

Not the most interesting match although they had a couple of good rally´s. Well done to Djokovic for managing to turn the match around in the 2nd set..;) He does need to step up his game though..

Brilliant start for Djokovic. Davydenko really is a great tennis player, then at 5-5 third he also showed why he'll never win a grand slam.

There were flashes of greatness from Nole but most of the match, he's tentative. Davydenko's level dropped near the end of 2nd set and let Nole back to the match.

yep. you try play a beautiful match against Davy... and you lose. Nole was smart and patient, waiting for him to lose steam with his game style and increase the UE count. Federer kept beating him the same way.

Ridiculous for the match to finish so late. Absolutely no need for it, most of the crowd left before the end. I do not understand the scheduling.

Congrats to Nole. :yeah:

Davy

That's because the last tube from North Greenwich leaves at 00.16 and most people were scared they'd miss it. I was quite prepared to wait outside the station all night to see the end, but yes, a lot of people had left.

Didn't see much of the match, but what I saw I enjoyed.
Still a chance for Davydenko to reach the semis, and still a chance for Djokovic to implode if he thinks he is there already.
Everything still to play for.

sad I couldn't watch it. and btw was there a reason stated for why is the night match on so late? for people to be able to watch it on tele after work?

Davydenko called for trainer during the match because of a recurrence of a problem breathing.
"Some doctors say maybe asthma," Davydenko said. "Some say maybe allergy. Some say bronchitis."

Good win for Nole!!!! I fought his way through a difficult opponent. Moving on to Robin and that won't be easy. Also, Nole did say he was not moving well on the court. I think he is tired. If he pulls through I will call him RAMBO/TARZAN/SPIDERMAN/SUPERMAN. He is not fresh at all and that is why I think TOAD will try to take him down, despite the 5:00 H2H advantage in Nole's favor.

Ugly match, worst of the tournament so far. Both played bad with few good shots here and there. Novak needs to get himself together and play smarter if he wants to do anything here.

Did you even watch it ? :o

Well done Novak :bounce:

some nice points but wouldnt say it was a high quality match, as number of errors would indicate. djokovic complained later on how he was gassed out even before the match, which might not mean much. in away, and in a wider sense, the uncertain outcome of this match is a product of the fact that djokovic and davy are quite similar in sense both are kind of 'omni' players. no real weak spot, just djoker hits a bit bigger.

some of the scrambling from both was very good, almost retrieved from the stands.

anyway, there should be no big expectations from nole here. if he goes to semis (and stops there) he would complete a following streak starting with sincy:

f, sf, w, sf, w, w, sf.

thats from 3rd week in august till now, that makes it a span of 14 weeks (if Im correct). thats one hell of a streak, especially since its season end. so djoko fans, dont dont have your hops too high, cause this isnt bound to last.

NIKOLAY DAVYDENKO: Like before I see him, I say, I need just T shirt for my fan from him. He say, Okay, let's go change on the court. I say, Okay, we do change after the match.

oh please, someone explains that player Davydenko? his serve? er... his volley? bla.... his forehand? bof.... his charisma? he takes no risk, the ball always in the middle of the court...

I remembered there were many times during the match that he was painting the lines left and right plus baseline  and Djokovic was scrambling all over the court to return the ball.

Hi Madam Lee, in the last set, in the last game... like a desesperado. The whole match was so boring, so predictable... like i said... taking no risk... a good stakhanovist of the court. oh my, you gotta love volley ball, sumo, poker, whatever

:o If you stick to charisma or who has a nicer butt and steer clear of tennis, you won't embarrass yourself as much. There probably isn't a player who plays the angles more nor one who likes to strike it early as much. If that's the epitome of no risk game for you :worship:

Wow this has been the hardest thread to read through... it's been more about petty private battles than the actual match.
Davydenko I feared the most, because his style of tennis is not comfortable for Nole, hence the tight matches they have. Davydenko is a great player, no doubt. If only he had more fans... he's hardly mediatic. I think the general indifference towards him hurts his career. Plus how old is he?
