So it's 6-3 in Andy's favor. I think with the crowd behind Andy, and Roger not at his best, it's not hard to see why Andy shouldn't win. We won't know though till that day.

it's either a straight sets victory for Roger or a three-set win for Muzza

Federer played really well v Verdasco (would have been straight sets if not for the rusty 1st game), it was a high quality match and that will probably be enough to beat Murray who didn't look sharp v Del Potro :yeah:

Federer's quality against Verdasco was much higher than Muzza and Pony taken together.

Verdasco's first couple of sets also suggest serious problems for Mr.retriever.

Fed in 2 is my call. Nice and easy

I think the opposite : Murray-JMDP had much better quality (Fed played better against Benneteau than in the two first sets of yesterday, much better comparing to the catastrophic first set especially)

I think Murray will win this one, and he's now the favorite for the tournament from my point of view.

Federer only lost his serve in the first game of the match. If he did not then it would have been routine straight sets :)

Yes, I find it bizarre anybody could think Fed-Fer was better than Muz-Delpo.

Me too. Bit of a strange match. A lot of people seem to think Murra-Delpo was low quality. I thought it was pretty high for the most part. Based on the form shown in the two matches, I would have given Murray the edge. I think Federer will be motivated against Murray, though, so I'd say it's a 50/50 match.

Yes, I thought Murray - Del Potro was high quality for the most part. Maybe got a bit crap towards the end, but so did the Federer match once Verdasco threw in the towel. Murray is on that showing in better form than Federer & the match-up favours him, BUT we've seen Federer go through the gears pretty quickly in this event before, & if he does hit top form, then it could easily go either way.

If Fedclown appears, Murray should take it easily. If Fed brings the backhand and consistency, it will go either way in a 3rd I reckon.

True this, if JesusFed shows up then it's a coin toss, anything short of that and Muzza takes it without breaking a sweat, as always...

I am torn 49/51 whether Murray will beat Federer.
I disagree entirely that Murray is now favourite for the tournament. This still has to be Djokovic

Murray in 3 probably. Fed's movement is still suspect and his anticipation has gone down the drain as well. There are so many times in the match that Fed was caught flat-footed. It was not a pretty sight.

Fed did find some confidence in the 3rd but it won't be enough to deal with Murray.

Both did not play convincingly throughout their opening matches, but Federer was still better after he found into the match!
Seems to be equal chances, but indeed Murray will win by provoking Federer to hit some homerun forehands with some clownish "Moan"s, believe me ;)

Federer in 3 is most likely. Federer does this thing where he seems to need some time during a match before he hits that top quality tennis. Especially when he plays best-of-three he often builds up during the first set and a half. Once he gets rolling though, he is hard to beat. I think his heart is into this tournament (not like in Paris) which also helps to dictate the outcome.

One more win and he clinches year-end #1.

"[Andy] Murray can still [trouble me with counter-punching] to some degree, but when I play too good or too offensive I can take it away from him now. And I’m too physical, whereas in the beginning I couldn’t do that. I couldn’t get around backhands and stuff. Now I can mix up my game too well for him to get under my skin. When we both play well it’s a close match, but I always feel it’s the attacker who holds the key to success, so it’s up to me whether I win or lose, not up to him. That’s why I don’t mind the match-up, to be honest." —Roger Federer (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/tennis/article-1228693/Andy-Murray-isnt-worry-Roger-Federer-World-No-1-dismisses-Scots-threat-ahead-Barclays-ATP-Tour-World-Finals.html#ixzz0X9UvWkSX)

Check out this silly paradox: If Federer loses to Murray, and beats Del Potro - he is *certainly* in the SF.

However, IF he beats Murray, but then loses to Del Potro - he could still be out. (Depending on sets and/or games won between Fed, Murray and Del Potro)
