Leyenda, never in doubt he won in that style his home tournament  2:4 in the third set in his first round match against Souza (2-6 6-2 7-5). Earlier this year he beat Giraldo also in Indian Wells after a dramatic match.

16-4 in tie-breaks this year :D

Finishes the season in Top 100 :yeah:

Nice one Lapentti! Does this mean direct acceptance into the Australian Open?

Lapentti, he believes in giving value to the fans. Worked hard and will get direct acceptance into the AO more than likely.

That win was amazing, so glad there was a stream and I got to see it. It was all typical Nico style. I wish he'd torture us a bit less, but I guess he likes his victories as sweet as possible.

He's ranked 98 now, and I believe the cut-off is at 104? Even if he slips, I think with withdrawals and all, he'll be in. And it looks like he's motivated enough to snag a few wins at majors, which would be great.

Love it. Lapentti loves the game so much, and gets the most out of what he's got. Still grinding after all these years and injuries. Shining example of someone who works hard and that if you have desire and belief in yourself, you can get it done. Good on him on making the top 100 and AO main draw, hope he can win some matches there!

:yeah: Wonderful that Nicolas won and gain direct entry to AO.

Defeating Giraldo is the extra bonus!

I like the fact his face is still young, I hope he won't finish career next year :) Who would suppose he's three years older than Ljubo? ;)

Giraldo and Souza, two of my favourites, they should have defeated him.

Still, he is likeable guy and he deserves anything.

I think he's even more attractive now than he was in his early 20s.

Maybe if he has some good results next year, he'll decide to stay. ;) Either way, I just hope he does have some good results and enjoys himself on court, like he did at DC and this tournament.

Considering the huge amount of sun he's received over the length of his career it is remarkable how youthful his face still looks. Must be a combination of good genetics and him taking good care of his skin.

Exactly :yeah: Nico has better face than 6 years younger Robredo who has a lot of wrinkles.

Oh, wow. Wow. And now I shall restrain myself, lest I get spazzy here. :p Thanks for posting that picture. :yeah:

It must be the genes. My theory is that instead of wrinkles, he acquired a darker complexion, which is one of the best trade-offs I can imagine. ;)

Why are you talking about Boredo and Lapentti in the same thread?

No way Nico plays 2011. He already said it, 2010 is his last year. (He would have retired in 2009 if Ecuador would have lost to Brazil)
