Another match that split sets:eek:

A real battle with the hometown crowd involved. Congrats to Nole who looked great all tourney and manned up in the final:worship:. Monfils gave a great run under his crowd and showed a lot of fight against a better player.

Nole broke to go to 4-2*, won a long point at *4-3, and held again to have 3 mp's on another long point.

Bercy always seems to hold epic finals.

The first set was simply magnificent from Djokovic. It was a continuation of his rout of Nadal yesterday. :worship:

The 2nd set: my God. At 3-1, the crowd rallied Monfils and he started to play a lot better. Novak was an error machine.

3rd set: Much worse from BOTH players. They were both exhausted and pushed the crap out of each other. Brad Gilbert's saying of "winning ugly" was on full display. Maybe 3 or 4 winners were hit. And Novak led by at least a break in each set.

Better tie breaker, though :yeah:

What a WIN THAT WAS. Just made that clown feeling that he could win and what a final set TB. at that TB all monfils could do - just serve(all 3 points he won - it was serve) and push ball back,as it was expected from a clown like monfils.

Have to hand it to Novak...what was impressive was his net play. I can't believe it: Todd Martin ACTUALLY contributed to his improvement. And, never easy to deal with the most obnoxious crowd in tennis. One way, I guess, is to bring the most obnoxious cheering section in sport to the forefront to help...let by Serbia's answer to Cruella de Vil and "Daddy Dearest"

Each time he makes progress with respect to his relationship the fans...endearing himself to them...his family and posse leave a sick feeling in the stomach.

Gael fought well...but again, inexperience and brain-dead play at times spelled his doom. Buoyed by the crowd, he fought back...but was not aggressive enough...and paid the price.

Novak Djokovic has become the 2009 answer to Fat Dave...the master of the indoor season.

for a set and a half it was SF all over again, Novak was ****** Gael in and out but lack of fitness made this match far more competitive in the end. Gael started returning serves much better, Novak started pushing and suddenly it became very painful to watch, for both fanbases IMO. In the end a deserved victory for Novak. I agree with someone who've posted earlier in this thread that D'Joke had an extremely mental tension in the tie-break. He wasted 3:0 (deuce) in the 2nd set, 4:1 (30-30) in the third, actually he was close to win 2nd set 6-1 and - hypothetically - the third 6-1 too + almost the whole crowd was against him. It's very tough to fight with the crowd and demons of wasted chances in both sets but he overcame it as a great champion. I think his exaggerated expression is understandable given the circumstances.

Don't tell me you watch the TV all day long.:p

Anyway, the greatest thing about this are TWO titles in raw and both won at opponent's hometown. So the streak is broken, but not the other one: in all finales he got - 17 - he won the first set.

dont know why some are complaining about novak's box. some folks just cheering for their man.... of course, he can take a gun and shoot them in the head, maybe that would satisfy some over here on mtf.

Novak's family did absolutely nothing wrong - but some of the haters on MTF take potshots at his family when Novak wins. Why? Because they are angry and frustrated - so they vent on his family. Shows you what kind of people these MTF haters really are...mean, petty, spiteful...AND lousy tennis players with no appreciation of the sport.

Good final, normal crowd, great fighting by Monfils, Djokovic had his ups and downs which is understandable since it's his long-wated Masters title. What else? Ah, reaction of both players and their teams was normal, adequate to the stress and emotions.

What's not normal is MTF's reaction  Time for off-season.

After the impressive first set and first three games of the second I thought this was going to be another Djokovic festival, it looked like the second part of Nadal's match. Then the crowd ruined it. Either way, Monfils did fight back and he was very good for the following games, Novak completely lost it. He surely wanted to give me a heart attack. Thanks God he showed his true champion vein when it was most needed. What's next Djoko? :worship:

Um...the reason is because, and this has been EVEN spoken about by those in the game (commentators, players, etc.)...is that they NEVER sit down...and don't have proper etiquette. Yes...cheering and standing once in a while is fine...but NOT EVERY point. And the leader of this? Vajda...he stands so much you begin to wonder if he's doing it not to cheer for Novak, but because he has hemorrhoids.

Novak feeds off this...and bellows like a banshee...and let's face it: he hates when the crowd is completely against him...and he likes to dish it back. Fine...the French crowd is the ONE crowd who deserves to be humiliated. However, when Novak won in Basel...you didn't see this. Why? Because his classless parents were not there to muck things up. Much like a drop of urine added to the sweetest of beverages, it ruins (in this case admiration for Novak's back to back victories) the enjoyment completely.

His net play?! That nearly cost him the match! He was terrible at the net in the second part of both the second and third set...

My point was that...in the tiebreak, his net play and aggressive forward movement won him the match. As Edberg used to say, if he won 60% of the points at net, he won. Instant pressure is a wonderful thing.

Congrats Djoko on your first Masters/1000s title! :hatoff:
Well deserved, by far the most in-form player of this part of the season... even if it turned out to be a much more tight fight than I initially expected. Due to a very crappy livestream as well as some RL commitments I wasn't able to see all of the match. After 6-2, 3-0, I expected it to be 'a walk in the park' for Djoko, very surprised to come back and see that not only Monfils had managed to level the score, but that the match had gone into a complete slug fest during the 3rd set. Apparently Djoko's very high level of playing of the first half of the match had come down quite a bit, but deserved kudos to Monfils who, aided by a massive support from the home crowd, had decided that he wasn't planning to go down without giving a proper fight either. Don't like the fellow very much to be honest, but credits-where-they-are-due! :yeah:

This victory must give Djoko a very welcome confidence-boost for the WTF - by picking up the points here, less pressure on him to defend ALL of his WTF-victory points from last year, as well as knowing that after two back-to-back victories at Basel (beating #1), as well as in Paris (beating #2), he's genuinely in a very good form. Nice. :)

Nice. :)

Thank you Karin.

:) - that's just from what I've managed to see this afternoon. Not much, but enough to conclude that this title is very well deserved for Djoko.

what else is new? they dont follow Nole.. they are like every other Serb fan in the world, there to inflict themselves upon ppl who just want to enjoy some sport.. pointless chants of "Serbia Serbia" . who the fuck cares? extreme nationalist idiots

funny thing is to then see Serbs and others in this thread - crying about the French supporting their own man.. like its not allowed :cuckoo:

To be fair, there are other national chants at tennis matches. The Chileans, the Australians, USA (:o), Argentines, and I'm sure others that I can't think of. I think some are cuter than others. There are people waving flags of countries pretty regularly. I think the Brits are fairly notorious for having the silliest flag clothing. It seems to me to be fairly harmless.

The crowd was noisy, but I think a crowd in Serbia would have been just a noisy in support of Djokovic had the match been played there. Noisy crowds are annoying when they cheer for the player you want to lose. :D

Typical important indoors match in France with a French player involved : the opponent loses his master because of the public, and the level is poor.

"Roger" Benneteau (the great player who played against Federer on wednesday) played far better than this.

Happy that Djokovic managed to win though :yeah: He's played so great last weeks comparing to this.

He smiled and sat on his knees after winning the AO, now he's a pent-up raged psychopath....

Nothing wrong with the crowd btw, they didn't boo Novak, they were just being football-type atmospheric and roaring their boy on. Get over it hatas.

The sad thing was that Springbok twat was aiming to move the game in a forward thinking direction when removing 5 set finals just took it back to the dark days.

This would have probably gone 5 sets and been a memorable match in the archives in 25-30 years, but it was spoiled by a shithead.

excuse me, but Monflis's possey was leaping about like a pack of grasshoppers in heat. So this is bollocks.

I don't believe that what's good for the goose is good for the gander. Two wrongs don't make it right. I've already stated: the French crowd is the most classless in the world. If this were a single incident, I would have said the Novak Posse was right...because the French deserve humiliation for their actions. HOWEVER, this happens time and time again...and this is why people like Mats Wilander and others stated that at last year's AO, the Djokovic family was the worst acting they had ever seen.

I can totally sympathize with him. If I was a pro and I had to fight against the crowd on top of beating my opponent, I would do that too! You can't help being an emotional person, that's what people don't realise. And if he needs that to win, then I welcome it. Period.

I actually believe that Novak doesn't need that to win. And I want to REEMPHASIZE: Novak deserved the win...and he WON it...Monfils did not LOSE it. Novak has blossomed...and we will see if he can carry this over to next year (he should)...because right now: he's the best player in the world.

Sawana Nole did win but he won the the "Hair of his Chiney chin chin....." That was ridiculous he had the W in his pocket at 3 - Love in the second and just folded in getting distracted by French fans, loosing concentration. He still has some work to do in that department to really be a true 2010 tennis force. No ofense, I like the Djoke! He has beautiful game, but concentration needs to be maintained from A to Z............ Tennis is a very mental game and there is no space for distractions and lose of focus. MonChoke is just a mental midget and will always fold to the likes of Nole even in front of his crowd....... Athletic yes.... Mentally very weak and unstable.... I cannot believe he has room to improve in that department... We are talking about mental limitations........ Congrats to Nole for his master title... Well-deserved!

we'll see. When the cock-up started at 3-0, first thought was...here we go again. He won't be contender material until he can tough it out, tournament after tournament. London will actually be the ultimate indicator of how he will enter next year. He doesn't have to win it, but he will have to do well to carry the vibe into 2010.

^I honestly don't think London will carry that much weight for Nole win or lose.
He lost every single match in Shanghai 2007 and went on to win AO 08.

Of course, ending a year on a high note is always good for one's confidence, so naturally I'd prefer a good result for him, and it IS a big event after all.

I'm not sure how much energy he has left, but I'm convinced he'll give it his best. I missed that fire from him, I'm glad to see it back.

As for the match itself, I expected the nerves to show cause of all those lost opportunities and finals blown hovering over him, but I knew he'd win.

He was on a song during the first set and a half, wonderful to see.:worship:

The audience was quite alright *they just wanted their boy to win*, I've seen much worse.
Great effort from Monfils and congrats on his first MS final.

And why is that? I for once don't want to watch some crap match loing on forever for over 3 hours on a Sunday when I have better things to do (and I see I'm not alone in this ).
Plus it really is too much for the players when they've had to play every day before the final and have to play next week too.
So IMO quite rightly the best of 5 set matches are reserved only for the Grand Slams.

Congratulations Djokovic. Well-deserved win, his experience made the difference in the end. The match almost turned out to be a one-sided disappointment, but credit to Monfils for picking himself up and playing to the best of his ability. Great suspense in the end.

Strong performances by Djokovic towards the end of the season, back-to-back titles won in the face of home crowd adversity... really impressive. you can have them in grand slams

As for mandatory tournaments in consecutive weeks, it's better now as there is only Canada-Cinci ; Indian Wells-Miami are not really consecutive as best players only start on saturday.

But there's still the problem of Barcelona between Monte-Carlo and Roma : not mandatory (Monte-Carlo not either actually) but ... you know, Nadal and a few other top clay-players want to play Barcelona.

Hi

It has come to my attention that Djokovic allegedly yelled some pretty bad stuff after the Paris Final. For example: "picka vam materina"

I would like to know, if it is true. I have this questions:

What exactly did he yell? What does it mean? And why did he do it?

I'm sure there are enough Serbian speaking people here that saw the match and can help me out.

Thx
