I'll be watching the match with my brother. He will root for Nadal and I will root for Djokovic. It will be intense. I say Nole in 3, he's unstoppable now! But I'm fine if Nadal wins too. And there is nothing dull with Nadal, losers (do you watch tennis at all? i wonder).

Rafito will take it, because Nolito is washed-up and played to much and he knows he has to be Super Nolito to win against Nadal. I'am afraid that is not the case this time even though it is on HC, Nole's fav. surface. Nadal also knows that he needs to move Nole around and make his stay as long as possible in the rallies. Nole will try to shorten the points, go to the net occasionally, Nadal will pass him as usual and it will be done in two fast sets, so let's not expect a marathon, because Nole is not up for it.

Here is what djokovic said today- "I've been playing more than 90 matches this year, and now two weeks in a row. Suddenly my metabolism is getting a little bit tired. It's all normal. It's all natural."

So Rafa will win either by retirement or in two easy sets.

My favorite combination Nadal - Novak, always interesting match. I hope it will be in three closed sets, who ever wins. What's up CD? Nothing much with me, just taking an extended break from tennis forums. Watching some tennis on tennistv.com. I really enjoyed the Nole/Toad match earlier today. That middle set by Toad was very clean tennis(6W,1UFE). Too bad he couldn't keep it up.

I also think that whoever wins the 1st set tomorrow wins the match.

I don't understand this entire obsession with "the first set" thing? As if the one who loses first set won't be able to wear his opponent down and win the next 2. This week I saw few matches where the one who lost 1st set won the match. No matter who wins 1st set tomorrow I'll never be sure of the outcome until they shake hands on the net.

My question wasn't directly to you but all who talk about "1st set" magic, I just quoted your post since it was the last one on the subject, maybe I shouldn't.
I mean Murray won 1st set 61 vs Stepanek, Cilic lost 1st set 76 vs Kubot and today Monfils lost 1st set vs Cilic. Winning 1st set gives some advantage but doesn't guarantee winning the match and some posters here make it sound as if it does.

It's all about statistics and it concerns Nadal the most of all. Certainly, Nadal often wins the match even if he loses the first set, but very often, if he got the first set, he certainly win. It's because he's usually increasing the level of his game during the match.
But, whatever, I find it funny too. Sawan used to say always the same over and over again until last year, lately I see CD is saying the same about Nadal very often. But he can explain it by himself.
On the other side, I think, and you can check it for a case, in last 16 finales when Novak got the first set, he was the winner of the match.

Nadal's level was supreme today. Nole was pathetic, opening the match with 2 DFs, then an UE, to find himself 0-40. Only because he had a completely shitted down opponent he could grab the win. He is exhausted from the last months, while Nadal hasn't found himself so fully charged at November ever before. Nadal will take him in three, then take the title on Sunday in two.

The key is in the first set. If Novak got the first one, he wins the match.

Djokovic has lost 3 matches this year after winning the first set, and one was against Nadal in Madrid.

However, if Rafa wins the first set, he almost always wins the match. I can only remember three matches in the last 5 years where he won the first and lost (vs Ferrer, in USO 07, vs. Federer in Hamburg 07 and vs. Simon in Madrid 08). That's around a 99% certainty.

affirmative. winning the first set is even more critical this time if he is to take this match. it will furnish him with the confidence that he needs and on the other side of the coin, it will take a little away from dojokovic`s spirit. and djokovic may be a little fatigued anyway.

pocketing the first set should do it.

I think Rafa is improving in every match this tournament and will again edge out a victory.

"He is the best player in this part of the season," said Nadal, who has a 14-5 win-loss record over the Serb. "It's going to be a good test. I know he is the favourite on this kind of surface."

gotta love how nadal reduces his battle to that of the underdog with anyone he chooses... and, its hard to argue with him really...

that is a damn good point fast clay.

that said, i also like his down-to-earth frankness. he is right if you look at the facts. he has been out of the sport no less than 3 times this year and that has left his game and his confidence in shambles.

in the mean time, djokvic has been healthy and has been playing all along and now has won more matches than anybody on the planet. additionally, he has an edge over the clay monster on hard courts. and he beat the clay monster in a very convincing fashion in cincy.

so for my money, its djokovic who is the favorite in this match. nadal becomes the favorite the second he pockets the first set. that is the way i see it.

by the way, honest self-evaluation seems sometimes too vibrant to be contained in the idea of humility.

2 real men to battle it out. Truly what tennis needs.

Who wants to see girly men like Federer and Murray play pattycake with eachother.

Nadal vs. Djokovic a real match. No pansies allowed.

Interesting how the odds in this poll are 60 40 to Djokovic, but in the V betting section the odds in bets are 90 10 for Rafa.......

Either way, as much as Djokovic wanted too, in fact some might argue that Djokovic needed to beat Rafa last time around, this time I think much of Rafa's doubts and confidence will skyrocket if if he wins this one.

It will be a tough match, but I think Rafa is taking this one.

Mind versus heart, I guess. After all Djokovic has a winning record on hardcourt against him. However, I give Rafa a 66/33 on this one after watching all matches from both men this week (I have been ill all week... not much else to do :p).

I know Nadal hasn't won a set against Djoke at hard court master series matches in quite some time but I think he will win this one. I got a feeling that he will find a way no matter how bad he is playing.

Take it back, old Rafa is back and Nole is going to destroy him 6-2 6-0! Embarrassing performance by Rafa once again, its hard seeing my favorite player playing like a tool and getting hammered but props to Nole and his fans! Congrats!

What is the record for most matches between 2 players ?
I can't wait for their 47th match.

evert-navratilova

43-37

could and should have been more but Martina pussied out of the clay courts until the early 80s because Evert would spank her constantly
