Is it safe to say Paris Masters is the biggest joke of 2009?

Federer crashed out, losing to Benneteau;
Nadal saved 5 MPs against Almagro, and another 3rd set win against Robredo;
Murray needs 2 TB sets to finish off Blake, lost to Stephanek next round;
Del Potro wasted 4 SP in 1st set, saved 7 MPs in 2nd set, used his 4th SP in TB to clinch 2nd set, then Gonzo gave up and retired.

Hell, QF matches still haven't been played, and there are plenty of jokes and dramas in this tourny.

I like this tourney so far ;) Wish Nadal was in better form and Soderling lost to Kolya today but never can have 100%, right? :lol: Hope Novak wins it :rocker2:

Every year in Paris is choke of the year.

Fedex w.o. with Blake

Nadal 1/6 ret. with Denko

Canas 6/4 5/7 3/6 with Serra

Djokovic 4/6 6/1 3/6 with Conga

Blake 4/6 3/6 with Conga

Nalby 3/6 6/4 4/6 with Conga

But choke of the year is no doubt Monte Carlo.

Nevermind the rest of your post (which is idiotic), you believe BLAKE getting destroyed by Tsonga is a choke!?

To respond to the OP, if by "Joke" you mean awesome and funny at the same time, then yeah.

Paris-Tankcy :rolleyes:

you can see that most of the guys that are gonna play London don't give a damn about this tournament, Rafa hasn't lost yet because those guys cannot defeat him even if he's in a wheelchair, the only one with a good shot is Nole :shrug:

Is Paris a joke? No, not by any stretch of the imagination. The beauty of sport is it's unpredictable nature and that's what keeps us captivated and fascinated as fans. How boring would sport and life be if everything went acccording to plan/seed? ... ughhh, unimaginably boring :( .

My respect for Federer actually increased immensely in his two losses to the Djoker and the United Colors of Benneteau. He handled it like a true champion and his demeanor is loss was more revealing and true than in victory. As Gary Player once said about Jack Nicklaus, "Jack is not only the best winner of all time, he's the best loser." Words of wisdom indeed. Yes, life and sport are a very difficult thing, but what makes a true champion is how he/she deals with adversity and loss :) .

why Paris and not other city like Frankfurt or Belgium?

Agreed (expect for that Belgium isn't a city). Paris already has a Grand Slam and France has many other tour level events (Metz, Marseille, Lyon).

Obviously there's a lot more to it then just sharing around tournaments to different nations, but it's unfortunate that Greece, Belgium, Norway, Denmark, the Czech Republic and Finland all miss out while other European countries hold several each (for example Austria, Switzerland, Sweden, Russia, Germany, Spain, Great Britain, France and Croatia all have at least two).

Why should it be a joke, just because some favs went out early? :shrug:

At least there are people there watching matches and creating an athmosphere, which is really a joy to see after the grave-yard of Shanghai.

It's a fun tournament so far. Murray and Nadal have been in a semi-slump for a while, Potro since after the US Open, and Fed stopped caring for non-grand slams long time ago.

Main issue with Paris is court1, it's ridiculous. But on the central court the atmosphere is great and the public is made of real tennis fans. And the quarters line-up is much better than Shanghai indeed

Sorry, but I think this tournament is really great.
Wednasday was for me the best tennis day ever in aspects of great matches and drama.
For me it's the best Masters tourney of 2009!

It's not Shanghai, but I agree this tourney is pretty pathetic. However, the matches in Paris 09 have given me much laughter. Honestly, some of the threads here are completely hilarious... so I can't help but like this fail tournament :lol:

It´s hard to find it a good tournament!

Maybe it´s different, but that makes it fun and interesting to watch!

This not surprise at all

and not ridiculous.

Hmm... this is interesting, apparently Paris doesn't settle being the second worst Master this year. They've called in RET, who beat Delpo in just four games. I kinda like where this is going~

To the OP, you could have just cut the crap and erased your whole first post and replaced it with "I'm annoyed cause my favorites are out and Nadal is still in waaaah." Seriously, if you wanna see a real joke of a tournament, check out some of the WTA ones from this year. At least we still have solid top 20 guys duking it out here.

Don't compare mens tennis tournies to womens ones, it's like comparing apples and oranges.

Nope. Feliciano Lopez made the semi-finals of a MS event in Shanghai, and then essentially couldn't perform because of a foot/ankle injury. That should answer your question.

Shanghai was way, WAY worse.

This Paris-Bercy edition was a rather good one, despite some of my favs making an A$$ of themselves... :lol: - I well remember the editions where it looked like the title might be offered to a certain guy named 'BYE', the past few years.

I think that to be honest, Shanghai was worse than Paris this year, but I give Shanghai a little bit of a break, because it was the first year they had a Masters event. Paris has been around for awhile now, so they're used to not having things go well at the Masters.
