Fighter vs Choker. Bad performance by Rafa though.
Rafa behind 4-5* in third set, but Tommy choked it away.

Tsonga next.

bueller..anyone..bueller?

loop up 3 shots and boredo, choker that he is..mug that he is...brainlessly bashes away at the high ball without a modicum of intelligence

Also when Nadal is changing shirts he looks like he has lost too much bulk. I know he's trying to save his knees but I think his game is suffering from it. Anyway nice try Robredo, but you choked.

You obviously have no education in this department, seeing as you're basing it on that pathetic example.

Why would they be like bodybuilders?

I'm not the one trying to say there is no connection between muscle mass and strength training. Fact is the result of strength training is increased muscle mass. Bodybuilding is a separate endeavour altogether. You are the one who obviously has no idea what you are talking about. Why do you suppose tennis players have hypertrophy in one arm?

That goes to show how pathetic Nadull's game is for him to have to rely on how high his moonball forehands go in order to entice errors from his opponents.

There are two different types of muscular hypertrophy, look it up.

There is a difference between sarcoplasmic hypertrophy and myofirillated hypertrophy. If you are constantly swinging in a powerful actual with one arm then sarcoplasmic hypertrophy will begin to develop. You're clearly an office worker.

What I am saying is, tennis players don't need to work on adding 'bulk' as such but more rather focus on strength and power training amongst other things. They're not going to measure their progress by how big their triceps have become.

It's not as easy for Nadal to hit aggressive shots when the ball stays low as well. It's a game style thing. Western grips prefer a higher bounce. Nadal's serve was way better today but still needs improvement.

What Gulbis said about Spanish players was so true.

And, what did he say?

I actually thought the match was VERY well played. Rafa had a real chance at the beginning of the second to put a stranglehold to win in straights...but then Robredo played two back to back incredible points (including a Becker-like volley winner)...and then it was game on.

Did Robredo choke? Yes...however, Rafa again showed WHY he is the best competitor (along with Jimmy Connors) the sport has EVER seen. Face it haters: he's like a vampire...you have to put a stake in his heart.

Rafa played MUCH better and had some incredible shots...and looked great in the end (particularly the first two points of the game Robredo served for the match).

Wonderful to again see the French Crowd's favorite (they were actually chanting "Tommy" if you can believe it) go down...and them going home unhappy.

They prefer players who play nice tennis to watch regardless of achievements. You Rafatards keep bringing up the fact he's won more than other players but it doesn't mean they should favour Nadal over him in terms of support.

For example Arsenal aren't as successful history-wise as Liverpool but their style of play is far superior on the eye.

The stats and prize money may say so but the court speeds and level of opposition suggest it's closer than you think.

I really have no idea why you are following this line of conversation with me. Of everyone on MTF I probably am the least likely to be swayed by any argument made by another poster, especially one I hold in low hater regard. But we can continue to repeat our opposing viewpoints if you want. That is the GM way :worship:

They prefer players who play nice tennis to watch regardless of achievements. You Rafatards keep bringing up the fact he's won more than other players but it doesn't mean they should favour Nadal over him in terms of support.

For example Arsenal aren't as successful history-wise as Liverpool but their style of play is far superior on the eye.

Got it? Though you're a yankee so you won't get 'soccer'.

I'll take winning ugly over being a loser period (which the French players on the biggest stage are) any day.

This. Ferrer always plays Rafa tough, never chokes. He just doesn't have the physical talent to beat him. The rest of them are fucking chokers. The biggest one is Verdasco as he has ALL the tools to win but refuses to. Everyone seems to forget that Pics gave peak Rafa a VERY tough match at 2008 Barcelona final, which was a very impressive result.

Typical bendover Spaniard in the end. Almugro/LaLo/Verdasco/Boredo all have a hilarious record against Nadal combined.

There has always been some Nadal hate in this board, but this is ridiculous now.

99% of people here are mindless haters. So you don't like his defensive style. So he's in low form, and struggling. So he's a claycourter playing on a fast indoor court and getting spanked. That makes him worse than Hitler and Bin Laden combined, it seems. If you don't like his playing style, and are convinced he's a joke, why the hate? why the lack of respect for a 23 year old that has career achievements comparable to those of Edberg and Becker?

A message to all haters: this rabid, bilious, poisonous hate to a professional sportman you have never met in real life and that has done nothing except to play tennis his own way instead of yours, is something you should talk about with someone outside internet. Maybe you need some help.

LOL two scotts need the translator. :worship:

It's unbelievable how Nadal manage to win and go far enough in the tournaments while he's in a bad form (i.e. plays like a clown). It tells much about someone's consistency. Like Novak. People argued a lot about Novak this year. He was actually consistent. He didn't take the majors, but he was always up there in tours and he pretty decreased losing from the low ranked players in this year.

With Nadal, it started in Madrid. Six months passed since he was in a good form and he is still on the no.2 position. It tells more about the other top players, especially Murray.

Still, win is a win and it even may help Nadal to be more motivated and get some self-confidence for the next match. (Though I think he's been jinxed with this clownish pants.) Next match depends more on Tsonga's display, will he choke or not. But, whatever, Nadal reached QF, so he already defended all the points from the last year.

Well said, it couldn't be more true. I don't understand this hate towards that poor guy. Because "hate" is really the word. I don't undersand the reason. You can dislike his game, but it's not a reason to hate someone that much.
Concerning Bercy, he's really crappy. Bad game, incredibly defensive and still a lot of stupid mistakes. But he's still there (chokes or not). Look at what Del Potro did in Tokyo, he lost in the first round against nobody. What Nadal has is his fighting spirit and his good attitude. Even when he doesn't feel his game, is not confident at all, plays on his worst surface (fast hard courts, indoors), he wins matches. With what he has. Is it what the haters can't stand? For me, it just shows one thing: he's a true champion.

Exactly, I couldn't have said it better. I DETEST haters, they're very sad people and a plague in the internet, must be the anonymous status that allow them to post the most stupid opinions and get away with it. They don't have any positive input to add to the discussions. And I don't tolerate insulting the players. Haters are losers frustrated with the fact that they will never achieve what these guys have.
