Paris R2: Nadal wimps by Almugro 36, 76(2), 75- Saves 5 MP's

Ozone
11-11-2009, 04:53 PM
Almagro served for the match at 6-5, 40-0 in the 2nd set, but Nadal pushed his way back and rolled in the tie-breaker to save 5 mp's in the 2nd set.

Almagro had game points to go up 4-1*, but Nadal won that game then Almagro fell apart and gave a half-hearted effort.

Pretty bad tennis overall.

Almugro didnt even give an effort after 4-3 in the 3rd set due to an injury. Pretty embarassing for him, all starting at the 6-5 game. Almugro looked really good up until then.

Bad tennis fron Nadal & also from Almagro , but Nadal won !
Almagro lost 5 match points in the second set.
I think this is the worst match of Nadal in his career.

Paradoxically I knew Almagro was finished at 6:5 (30-0) in the 2nd set when I saw his stupid smile. Then he hit lucky backhand with the frame of his racquet what created extreme angle and obtained "undeserved" point with decent backhand playing in the open court.
Actaully I'm surprised Nadal didn't win third set 6-0 or 6-1 :o

And where is Ad Wim who thought Almagro is a mental giant because won this year first matches being match point down against Hanescu and Monaco? :)

terrible, absolutely terrible third set. I didn't catch the other two sets, but apparently Almagro wasted 5 MPs. :|

I know that he was hurt, but the guy didn't even try after going up 5-3 in the third. He had zero believe that he could win this match.

Nadal's return was also very bad!! Almagro was just rolling his serves in and Nadal wasn't even putting any effort in the return. He also looked kind of sick (I hope it is not serious).

almugro may be a mental midget but it was nadull who was basically hitting squash shots the end of the 2nd set and any time he was behind in the 3rd hoping that almugro would miss (which he did).

on top of it, nadull showed us his "slice"..which was such pitiful level a 4.5er could have drilled it. Almugro is mentally too incompetant to switch from xtreme western to hit what essentially is a floater.

You can call almugro brainless, heartless, but one thing he has that nadul will never have is shotmaking

both these players can go fuck off. Imagine the ATP in 5 years with players who emulate Nadul's style of game out there...ugh how utterly repulsive

Nadal's hard draw this

when Almagro served for it at 40-0 and lost the 1st point, you could actually see him shaking  rushing the next points at 100mph

he is a f'en disgrace to men's tennis .. most clear case ever of someone worshipping another player so much to the point of finding ways to lose to him

Nope.

Up a break early in the 2nd set, choked it right back.

Broke and served for the match in 2nd set, choked it right back and collapsed in the tiebreak, then instantly gave away a break first game of 3rd set.

Up *3-1 in the 3rd set, choked it right back.

Every time he got ahead, he choked and immediately dropped serve.

Besides, cramp is entirely his fault for not preparing properly.

What can you say? The most pathetic display of tennis from Rafa since the U.S. Open three years ago when he played that unranked Aussie in the first round (forget his name).

A bizarre match to say the least: Rafa was mentally strong to save the match points...but then choked by giving Almagro so many chances in the third. Seemed like he was going for more on the first serve...and was failing. Groundstrokes had no sting...simply an awful display...combined with Almugro going for his shots...and making them.

Rafa looks smaller...and his game is following suit. Still...saving five match points shows he's the toughest fighter in the history of the sport...but his game right now? Cannon fodder.

Almagro had 52 winners and 64 UEs. That's bad. Nadal only had to struggle because he sucked balls, too.
That's actually a decent ratio when playing Nadal. He gets many more balls back than most players.

Rafa is playing to passive, his top spins forhands aren't doing any damage to other players anymore. His shots lack power and length. He looks tired and beyond all, physicaly weak.

The surface does not suit him. The balls are not bouncing high here in Paris. No surprise they want to make the surface unfavorable to Nadal. They did change the balls at RG to make them more lively.

Lol at the usual rage at a Nadal win, magnified by the manner in which it was achieved.

Today Nadal really played the way haters on GM think he plays. Man is he playing terrible and looking uninspired.

This too shall pass, one of these days. But I wonder when he'll get his head straight, so to speak.

Premature celebratory ejaculation by dedicated GM haters:

If you fed Mathieu, Kohlschreiber, and Berdy through a grinder, then somehow chemically reanimated the remains and replaced the brain with that of the mythical homo chokus, you might somehow approach the level Almagro attained today.

Legendary choking. Awesome stuff.

I agree he had some nice passes and some beautiful winners but when he can't win the match because he chokes to death and makes easy mistakes, imo there's nothing to say.

pathetic end for Almagro  he played really well until those match points at 6-5 in the 2nd set. The he played very nervously on all 5 mps. Then due to his lack of fitness, he cramped in the 3rd set :spit: :o maybe it will take a match like this for him to realize that tennis is not all about pure talent-but also about work ethic and fitness. No reason for him to have lost this match and he should be kicking himself :o :tape:

Nadal's forehand is looking like it's regressing, especially from how he was hitting it in Australia. I'm sure the conditions play a role but so many of his forehands were lacking pace in this match it looked like nerf tennis.

affirmative. he has zero rhythm at the moment. his entire game is devoid of any rhythm.

not being able to serve well and return well just makes it that much harder on hard courts.

bottom line: he has to quickly forget about all the outside interests that he keeps acquiring and try to get back into the game. he needs to get on the practice court and then stay on it.

i am not at all surprised by such a show from rafa........i have always maintained that he is not naturally talented and will have odd dips like this once in a while........he has lost all the tuning in his groundstrokes, no confidence in either wings, serving below ordinary and forget about return of serve, movement isn't that great either........his breath, life everything arises out of clay and that stretch from montecarlo to wimbledon is what he needs to play at his best again.......

we will not see him play his near best tennis until the first round of montecarlo next year........even if he wins a title or two along the way, that'll be just coz of his fighting qualities........

Everybody were being a bit too harsh on Almagro here. He's a good attacking player and has a beautiful backhand.

Sure, he clowned out here but so it happens to everyone once in a while. Nalbandian also wasted 5 MP against Rafa last year. Djokovic wasted 2...
