"Murray The Best In The World" (http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/tennis/simon-reed/article/443/)

"Right now if you ask me who is going to win in London I would have to say Murray. He is the favourite for me."

Too bad, Muzza. No chance whatsoever at the WTF anymore now. :(

It was great to see Andy Murray make a winning comeback in Valencia and I still believe he is the best tennis player in the world, that's not to say he's going to win a Grand Slam.

To come back in Valencia and win after all that time out is amazing, but until he wins a Grand Slam you have to regard him as being on a lesser level than the likes of Federer and Nadal.I don't think Federer is the player he was, Nadal is not the player he was. Djokovic seems to be coming back and there are others coming up, Cilic is one, but I think they are all pretty level and you can't pick a number one.

But if you press me to pick a number one, you look at who has been the most consistent outside of slams and it is Andy Murray.

He has won six times now, but for us to truly believe he needs to win a Slam; I am sure that will come.

Heading to London fresh will help him and it will help him next year for the Australian Open.

Right now if you ask me who is going to win in London I would have to say Murray. He is the favourite for me.

Federer is not playing well, for Djokovic to beat him in Basel is a great result for Djokovic and Nadal is not quite there either after all his problems.

I see Andy Murray as the favourite to win in London, but not in Australia. He has to prove he can win a Grand Slam first.

London will be a great occasion and Murray will go there being lightly raced and then on to Australia. Australia is his ideal surface and it is a great chance for him - but as I say, he needs to prove he can do it on the big occasion.

So he believes Murray is the best, but think he is on lesser level than Nadal and Fed:confused:

Because I've literally never picked Murray to win anything more significant than a Masters Series event? Maybe because I've never considered Murray anything more than the 3rd best player in the world? Yeah, that sounds similar to Simon Reed's ridiculously inflated opinion of Murray.

It helps if you are vaguely familiar with someone's posting history before you start attempting wisecracks. There's a difference between being a fan and picking your favourite to win every tournament that he enters.

Really?Look at his work experience:shrug:

Simon Reed's career began with BBC Radio in the late sixties when he worked for BBC Radio Sport, BBC World Service and BBC Radio London. From 1973, he was a presenter and reporter for Thames TV before freelancing in the early days of Sky Sports. In 1995, he became Head of Commentators for Eurosport specialising in tennis. He has covered three Olympic Games and has commentated on the last eight Wimbledon Championships.

Masters Series are all Murray can win so Reed is right.I the mean time Murray has 1 less slam Andy Roddick;Novak Djokovic and Juan Martin Del Potro's 1 and 6 less than Rafael Nadal and 15 less than Roger Federer:tape:

:o - from a guy with such a CV in TV journalism you'd surely expect some better level of writing than that fanboy-blog stuff he keeps on producing. :tape:

You may well be right on this. Still, even apart from his writings' contents per se, they make me suspect they've been written by a 13-year old fanboy rather than a seasoned TV journalist.

I wonder if he even knows of the rubbish being published in his name. ;)

Really, come on, nobody deserves to be compared to Simon Reed! That's mean from you!

But really, every time I see a thread with "Simon Reed" in the title, I prepare myself for the worst. And what is even worse, he never lets me down, in fact, he outdoes himself with every piece of writing he produces. This article must rank pretty high in his list of :bs:

Well, if Murray draws the same group with Nadal, Del Potro, and Davydenko (is that even possible?), and makes it to the semifinal facing Djokovic, and then wins the final defeating Fed, I would consider him as favourite, below Fed, at AO10.

Simon Reed is a complete clown. Repetitive nonsense time after time... and as someone pointed out in the Eurosport comments, the quality of his writing is extremely poor. Just about anyone on this forum would write a more analytical piece.... He has learnt to temper his nonsense though it makes little sense....no 1 player in the world but not capable of winning a Grand Slam?

I like this guy. He must be really good at something because as a writter he is at the same level as the worst tards in MTF. He clearly got a personal thing against Federer and now he doesnt writte at all in Australia because he doesnt know what to say anymore, he has been calling the end of the Federer era forever now, just look at some quotes:

2008 Wimbledon : But if Federer does get beaten then we know his era is at an end. And if he doesn't win Wimbledon, I would be surprised to see him win another grand slam

Ofcourse he went on a couple of months later to beat his dearest Murray in straight sets at the USOPEN, later after the AO 2009 defeat against Nadal, Simon Reed still hasnt learned anything: But unless something changes soon, and with the possible exception of Wimbledon, he's simply not going to win another Grand Slam.

After he is proven wrong again he was suddenly handed Wimbledon and French Open 2009: I still think he was handed both those titles, and while it's not impossible that he will pull off another win at the US Open, it's hard to see it happening.

He is right 25 slams is very unlikely, but he writtes with such a vendetta after Federer lost in the USOPEN final, as if he finaly got it right:

After he won Roland Garros and Wimbledon people were saying crazy things like Federer could go on and win 25 Grand Slams but there is no chance of that happening - none!

Ok, the lovefest with Murray is what gives Simon Reed high entertainment value, but beyond that he clearly got some issues with Federer and seem irritated that Federer wont step away to start the Murray era of tennis.
