gulbis has really sunk to the lowest this year. disgrace to this sport.

From the official site:

http://www.fft.fr/bnpparibasmasters/2009_en/?ID=5581

4.03: J who wrote in below earlier in the day was right! Ernests Gulbis was a no-show! Mathieu Rodrigues, ATP 410 who turned 24 today, knocked up with the ball-kids, waited for 15 minutes while the crowd sang “’appy burssday” (with a French accent) and then strolled into the second round. He was an alternate – i.e. he was only here because other higher-ranked players did not sign up for qualifying – and now he is only two sets away from making it into the main draw. Poor show from Gulbis though – a no-show like that won’t enhance his already somewhat flaky reputation. A poor end to a poor season for such a talented young man.

Feel free to continue with various speculations about the no-show :p

you think so from a flaky and unprofessional player like him? seems highly unlikely. tournaments directors should be aware of gulbis in the future. would be better for him to hang up the racket. worst unprofessional player in the history.

I love how people on this website think they have the Right Speech, and the Answers to all the basic questions in the world. :hearts:

So just to sum up, because Ernests didn't show up, or forgot to withdraw, he's insulted. Right.
For example, how many players withdraw 15 minutes before draws are made ? You weren't at Paris working for the tournament, so I guess you just don't know what happened. So why do you feel the need to comment on everything ?
I'm just curious to hear your answers, you unjustified haters. :worship:

Well done Ernests, anyway! :hearts:

We have seen often enough "no show" as reason for a walkover.

I will politely ask this again....

Show me the FACTS for the claim that "no show" happens every week.

I am not disputing this, I am interested in knowing as I saw many WOs on draw sheets but almost 99% of the time, due to injury. If anyone can kindly show me in the year of 2009, the ATP tournaments have more than 40 "no show" as the reason for a walkover.

Thank you!

May be 40 is asking for too much. How about 20?

*Jean*
11-08-2009, 05:11 AM
Well, it maybe doesn't happen every week for the audience because people only care about top 100, but the "no show" w/o happens all the time, especially in the low event Q-Draw, and in the Challengers.
I still wonder why no one is bashing and insulting Ouahab who didn't show up neither. :)

I don't think I have bashed or insulted Gulbis, at least in this therad. For me, it's embarrassing that being a professional player who knew he would not play in an event more than 2 weeks before, didn't notify the organiser. It's un-professional and irresponsible.

As for the bashing and insulting, this is MTF. I do not agree with this behaviour but this is how some posters here do most of the time. And it's not limited to Gulbis. I have more examples here that all top 10/20/30 players are bashed and insulted more than Gulbis, than your claim of "no show" w/o every week. Just read any of the results threads in GM.

If one day Gulbis's ranking and/or results are similar to Ouahab, you don't have to worry about him being bashed and insulted here.

Horatio Caine
11-08-2009, 08:49 AM
And he said he didn't want to play the qualifiers in the Australian Open :haha:

He still might not need to.

I have him as #89 on my 'Race' rankings thread (others will have him in a similar position), and he will add a few more points over the next 24 hours as he wasn't on the original Paris Masters entry list...would put him up to the high #80s. Obviously there will be come players in and around the top 100 counting Futures results to their rankings, but I'm not sure that there are enough to bump him out of the top 106.
