I'm sure not too many of you, MTFers, are aware that Federer played 5 times against Michael Chang.

Fed leads the series 4-1.

He won 3 times in Grand Slams against the american, always on hard, but Chang managed to defeat the grass god in Halle, in 2000.

You are on fire.

Lucas Arnold is 1-0 against Federer and the legend of Tanko Squillari is 2-0 without losing a set.

FIRE is the word i'd use looking toward your avatar...can you be kind enough to tell us, mortals, who's the red-hair Goddess ?

It's funny when two players whom people regard from entirely different times have played each other (and several times at that). Chang won a Grand Slam in the eighties!

Another funny one is Nadal and Agassi (played two times, Nadal won both), also Nadal and Ivanisevic (played two times, Nadal won both).

And, of course, I guess is common knowledge that Pat Rafter has 3-0 against the GOAT...
...with the aussie champ defeating the future grass god in Halle next year after Chang did it, and also in the quarters, as Chang did it too...early grass glory denied by Chang, Rafter, Henman and Ancic in Fed's case :)

Yeah, beaten easily by Hewitt, as usual.

Bit surprising that young Fed was able to dominate a retriever such as Chang, but I guess Chang was past it by then.

A prime Chang would have given Federer fits, especially a young Federer (who struggled mightily against Hewitt and guys like that early). Even the older version would hate playing a running ping pong machine like Chang.

I have no doubt he'd win more than he lost, but this is one of those scenarios where there is a distinct matchup issue.

Still, by the late 90s Chang was fading. His last hurrah was the USO final loss to Rafter. He was never the same after that, and fizzled very rapidly as his wheels deserted him.

I think Chang is still the ATP leader for Most Massive Legs category.

I think Chang is still the ATP leader for Most Massive Legs category.

Yeah, his thighs are thick as.

He was a semi-regular second weeker in Grand Slams before his semi-final lost to Rafter in 1997 at the US Open. After that he didn't even make a round of 16, although he was in some memorable early round grinds.

Now I know this, a good statement for the 2008 Wimbledon Final would have been: "Interesting how Federer tends to lose on grass against a career best n2 who only win in the French Open :p
