24 aces. Only blemish was the brainfart at 5-2 in the second set tiebreak.

OMG, what a great win. Didn't think he would pull this off after the terrible last weeks. Mentally very strong after that tough 2nd set loss, I really thought he would break down but he broke right away!

And he played very well, all match long. Hit some great shots, nice rallies, he really deserved this. Thank god he eventually won it in the end.

Keep it up, Korolev is winnable.

Chardy's FH power makes Blake's FH look like Santoro's.

What part of the season was Blake focussing on again?

Typical Blake, can't win third set even when was close to defeat in two sets with mental advantage on his side. With this kind of form maybe will back to challenger level next year.

Good effort from Chardy - he should have won that second set and that's something he needs to watch out for, but he recovered very strongly, was hitting the ball very cleanly and served huge.

Blake sucks!!

Does Chardy always play like this (big serves & groundstrokes)? Or it's just a good day for him?

That's what he does, big serving and heavy groundstrokes. Bit like Blake actually, but then a lot better at the moment. Needs to get better at the net though, and learn some better defending. Then he can certainly get into top 20 next year.

Thanks. I always know of him, but never really pay attention to his game :p

Well IMO, Chardy seems like another youngster with the same type of game as Cilic or Del Potro, although not as consistent. Hmmm, another potential trouble for Nadal in the future, no?

He's not been that good for a while.

The surface helps though, cos Basel is a bit of a serving competition. Only Memphis on the tour has more aces.

Was James injured? He wore a knee tape so it could affect his movement.

You exaggerate, Blake will be in the top-50 in the end of this year, and played well in the end of the year : was unlucky with the draws but yet played well.

Don't underrate Chardy : he played very well yesterday

Chardy plays well, it was good but not yet exceptional from him yesterday.

However, his movement and physical, his backhand, his consistency, and his overall game make that he's far from Cilic, Del Potro and Nadal so far.

I thought that maybe he would play Sunrise, and maybe 2 others Challengers next year  Obviously his ranking is save enough to play one another year on the ATP tour regularly but if he struggles with form will be dropping in the ranking next year. This year at least has played two finals, there are some points to defend next year...

Good job Jérémy, though it could have been more straightforward.
