Decent match. Nadal seems to be getting better. Or maybe it was just Robredo playing crap with 14 Winners to 30 UE

YAYYY~!!! :bounce:

When I saw Rafa would be playing Boredo, I immediately took him off of my betting blacklist - I mean, him losing to Robredo - NO WAY. :D

Rafa seems to be in good form right now, and with all of these retirements going on, has a good chance of getting far. Good luck in the next round, Raf! :rocker2:

Yes, this was 3rd game in the 2nd set for Rafa to break back. Good game, yes. :)
I still liked this match no matter how bad you are making Robredo to be playing. Yes, he made UEs, he was hitting balls with his BH that were flying somewhere in the stands but still Rafa was playing well. He was coming to the net quite often and won most of those points. If not anything else Rafa is building up his confidence and trying out some of his shots. What worries me is that Rafa became a bad front runner. Whenever he's having the lead by a break he gets immediately broken back

Good luck against Ivan, Rafa :)

Before the break in the second set Robredo had started causing Nadal problems running around his backhand and hitting the inside out forehand to Nadal's forehand. Nadal is looking like he's playing better in some ways, but he's as vulnerable as ever to that kind of play which doesn't bode well for him if he ends up facing Soderling.

I don't think Nadal is playing particularly better, just up against Robredo who plays into his hands completely. Nadal will always look good when he recieves a lot of slow, half court balls to his FH.

Robredo looked Nadal's equal for about 35 minutes of the second set. Apart from that he looked just what he is, a couple of classes below Nadal.

Nadal didn't play well for sure. Lots of mistakes when going for a winner, lack of variaty except some net rushes, and short returns. He played better against Blake. Still managed to win relatively easy. I am not feeling optimistic at all for the rest of the tournament.

I think Nadal played much better against Blake. He looked frustrated today despite winning easily. But Robredo makes you play long points. I guess that is why Nadal was making more unforced errors.

Hmmm it wasn't a bad match, Rafa needs to get the confidence back that is all.

IF Rafa EVER loses to Roberedo ANYWHERE, he should seriously consider retirement. The man may very well be the worst player ever to grace the top 10.

Pics doesn't bend all the time, but Rafa is a far better player than the rest of spanish guys :p

and it was NID, Rafa simply won't lose to Boredo no matter how bad he's playing, this match tells us nothing about his true form

Agreed Dani.

Yes Boredo would have lost in straights, but he should have got more than 5 games :o

Can someone give me ONE career achievement (other than the top 10) that Boredo has? Even Stan has a victory over Federer and Olympic gold.

Boredo or Simon, close contest for worst top 10 ever.

Don't mention Simon to sawan. Anyway, Simon is among top ten only for a year, he can still surpass Robredo.

Funny if you think of it, if Robredo was ranked 50-100 for the most part of his career he would be considered a solid dirtballer, tough to beat on clay but since he's ranked so high he annoys people and is considered utter crap :)

rafa is too defensive against Söderking if that will be it
rafa has problems with returners too
I think rafa has lost a little bit

he looks less powerful, fast, with worse hand eye coordination than he did at AO this year... all these things will come back when he reinflates

Poor Nadal. People are getting more and more use to his game. And with more people adapted to his game, the more physical he gets by chasing those flat balls down.

Why does every Spaniard have to bend over for Nadal???

Do you know how many players in the ATP have a winning record against Nadal regardless of nationality?

If you don't, find out -- because players from every nation "bend over" for Nadal.

Can't glean anything about Rafa from this match. This is the easiest type of matchup for him against a guy with a useless singlehander backhand, and some of the worst passing shots in the game. 99% of the time all you have to do is hit the lefty crosscourt forehand and rush to the net for the easy put away, if Robredo hasn't hit it in the stands or the net, of course.

Sensible assessment of this match. :)
Still I hope for the best for Rafa, i.e., that he's at least getting back quite a bit of his confidence from matches like these.

not a single top player has a winning record against the clay monster. cilic is 1-0 against him but that is a sample of 1 and it means nothing.

good point on your part.
