Always good to see Ljubo doing well, but he's being ridiculously lucky. Verdasco was injured yesterday, now Monfils is sick.

Bit of an easy draw for Nadal really: Robredo then Ljubo. Sod in the semis though.

ps Ljubo up to 28/29 in the rankings!

Ljubicic in another MS quarter final. NID.

Monfils was really struggling. I thought there was something wrong from the beginning...

Murray and Federer withdrew, empty stadiums, retirements of Zverev, Acasuso, Del Potro, Roddick, Haas, Wawrinka and Monfils. What a tournament :o

Ljubo in his fifties will still be able to beat these choking mugs like Monfils

I felt sorry for Gael. He was really struggling out there and there was absolutely nothing he could do. I knew from the beginning he just wasn't in good shape. I think we can honestly say it's been a Masters to forget really. I feel sorry for the tournament organisers I really do. I think the ATP will seriously have to consider the calendar after this

I have to agree with you there DCM ... still you must be happy Soderling had a good win against Tsonga? He has a chance I think ... I can't really look outside Djokovic or Nadal but I think Soderling has as good a chance as them to be honest

I'm happy for Robin, yep. As long as either Davydenko, Schuettler and Soderling are still in the tourney I'll still watch it.

Robin has a good chance for his first MS title. Hopefully he'll do it.

Rokebyflynn

I must confess to going for Simon myself but I wouldn't be devastated to see Soderling win. I quite like him I must confess. I'm waiting for the Simon match to start and it is an absolute disgrace that there is no-one at the match. I'd love to know why this tournament has been so bad ... is it because of the withdrawal of Federer and Murray? It just seems to have been a disaster from day one

Perhaps they could organize a special consolation tournament for all the players who have retired this week? Who would win, I wonder.

What a spartan, this Monfils. He was being blown out of the water the same way he'd been against Wawrinla in Tokyo, only Ljubo didn't choke like Wawa has. Then Monfils retired. Mug.

I assume you're addressing me? Yes, I did see the match. I don't have a problem with retirements per se: you're right, almost every player retires, nothing wrong with that, but I: a) hate Monfils' game and 'tude, so enjoy him getting hammered, and THEN retire, and 2) honestly don't think that he was physically sick. Playing shite yes, but he played shite agains Wawa too, and won the match. So I indulge in a bit of harmless gloating.

Mugfils wasn't really injured. This is all crap. He didn't even call the trainer. He just couldn't play and was in the process of being humiliated by Truba.

I didn't see the match (only 2nd game of the 2nd set) but I thought today that empty stadiums would be a stimulating factor of retirements. I mean the crowd can put the pressure on a player - he would afraid of being catcalled retiring without serious reason. Unfortunately Shagnhai's audience doesn't give a flying fuck. I've got impression after three rounds they only care about Nadal. Probably he and Federer have there a celebrity status. Just loose thoughts...
