Melzer lead 3-0 first set and could go a double break up, but Del Pony came back and leveled it up with many UEs from Melzer, and Melzer broke again at 6-5* to take it with great tennis that Del Pony had no answer for, second set was on serve with Melzer keeping the level up and holding impressively, suddenly Del Pony calls the trainer and retires immediately.

not a good showing from Del Pony, he should have fought till the end as the injury didn't seem that serious as to stop him from playing, maybe it's just a precaution >_>

anyway great match from Melzer, he went for his shots and played smartly and approached the net really well and kept a great length on all his shots, well done :yeah:

Sad for Del Potro...
He wasn't anywhere near his best in Shanghai, sorry, Bejing or Tokyo, either. Perhaps it would have been a better idea if he'd have followed Federer's suit and skipped these tournaments.

Get well soon Juan-Martin.
