Shanghai R1: Stepanek sexes up Ferrero 6/3 6/0

I only caught some action midway on from the second set. Wayne looked completely deflated after he was up 40/0 on Sexy's serve only to lose five points in a row.

Oh well. It's always good to see Radek execute his dinks, drops and volleys to good effect.

Very sexy match.

Steps was very accurate from the baseline, quite impressive. JCF couldn't handle his flat balls coming through the court.

I agree, and he created a lot of nasty angles. With some more good days like these he can make a run here.

JCF threw in the towel after Stepanek's 3rd lucky net-cord.

But Sexy was too good today. Very consistent from the baseline and the serve was solid as always.

I like Wayno's defeats but not in that style :o

Btw, this result probably rules JCF out of the Davis Cup final which is a shame because this isn't such a nasty match-up. One or two crucial points can change an outcome dramatically. But Verdasco will definitely be favoured now.

:haha: Great thread title.

Sexy is exciting to watch when he's on form. But Ferrero was obviously out of sorts to give up so easily in the second. (So people have said; I didn't watch it) I think he's done well enough this year to reach #20. Rest up and come back strong in 2010.

No result would have dragged JCF in Verdasco's place for this Davis cup final.
At least if their coach is sober and able to think.
Not with Dasco in top 10, not with Dasco winning the last DC, not even a tittle in Shanghai would have taken Ferrero in Verdasco's place imho

I rather enjoy watching Stepanek play. Not the most talented but his court sense and tactics are incredibly sound. There are tons of things the top players could stand to learn from him.

Ferrero is an absolute joke of a player.

If you think so...
I happen to admire the guy for the fact that he's still around, still plays on a reasonably high level, and as such, manages to beat some 'hot guys' once in a while, whereas a lot of his contemporaries don't ever manage to get even close to that.
Kudos, Mosquito, for hanging in there as long as you already did. :yeah: :D

Yeah I totally agree.

From what I've heard, it does appear that JC just gave the match to Stepanek rather than fight to stay in it, and sure thats shit. But he's done so well this season, who can deny him an off day? Stepanek is a very good player, I hate seeing any of my faves draw him first round, so I don't understand the big deal.

Both things happened.
Stepanek was outplaying Ferrero, and Ferrero tanked after getting broken for the second time in the second set.
