Great match from Rafa
:worship::worship:
He was playing agressive and effective
Cilic next - hope he can cope with the Croat too
I said before the match it's gonna be a two set win for Rafa
Vamos !!

Safin overrated as usual:rolleyes: This had to be Nadulls easiest hardcourt match ever

Nalbandian fans are always hypocrites.

Marat served like shite today and couldn't convert on his BP chances and the times he was 0-30 up.

Bit of a let-down, this match. I expected quite a bit more of it, judging from the Safin-Gonzales match. (understatement alert! ;))

Rafa didn't need to do anything special, and imho, he didn't do so either. A routine, solid performance. Congrats, Raf! :hatoff:
Safin was just... pathetic. Sorry, no other words for it. You know he's in a major mess when his serve stats are worse than Rafa's, who isn't actually anything near to being a 'big server'.
Time to Leave the Building, Marat... alas.

the amount of luck this moonbaling bunnie gets is really staggering - first Blake chokes the match away and then retiring legend refuses to put up a decent fight:sad:

After the Gonzo-match some hopes ran too high, including my own. ;)

Shit match from Marat, Nadal just needed to be on court to be declared the winner.

Why aren't you still banned? :o

You're supposed to be banned for 2 months and here you are?

Stupid decision by mods :cuckoo:

Retire Safin. It'll do you and tennis a lot of good...

Safin's first serve percentage was in the mid 60s wasn't it? I don't think he served poorly, he just played poorly in the rallies.

Finally I got to see Rafa playing :) Nice entertaining match IMO, great exchange on the net at the end and some entertaining antics from Rafa in the 2nd set :D Even Marat gave Rafa a :D Too bad Safin couldn't keep it more competitive but Rafa played well swinging his shots from corner to corner kissing the lines and moving Safin around.
Good luck against Cilic, Rafa :)

Say good bye to China, Marat :wavey: and thank you :)

safin served well.......he was late on so many shots.......rafael made him run side to side.......that was too much for safin who is 30 now.......

safin's forehand is one of the worst on tour. dont know how this guy won 2 slams, i rememeber Federer wasted a match point in 2005 by trying the through the legs shot.

btw, safin + mug = MUFFIN! :D

Safin's forehand can be very bad at times.

His backhand is much better.

It was a good shot prior to 2006/7. Since then it's been terrible, his forehand at Wimbledon was actually seriously embarrassing.

Agreed. His backhand is still good though, I guess.

The problem is that Safin can't move any more. If you could bring back the old Safin then this match would be tough for Nadal. As we know, he doesn't enjoy playing against guys who hit big flat ground strokes and serve big.

This was just another case of "Only backhand".

Reaching the QF as a positive surprise...and then losing to Nadal is a good way to finish your carrer.
Will he play more tournaments?

His opponent had a LOT to do with that. Both Baggy and Blake played a lot better than Safin did today.

He didn't play badly in the first set - one break at the beginning.. He just can't chase down balls the way Rafa does.

4 more tourneys for Marat I think..
