Good stuff Gonzalez, losing to the worst player in the top 100.

Great, great play by Marat. With 62% first serves 88% won, no wonder.

A match played in good spirit with several nice points. Great to see Marat get the win.

Marat :yeah:

Amazing how comfortable it was. Faced only 1 BP all match.

Could be the last time he gets back-to-back wins.

sawin was motivated, gonzalez scared because of london.
bravo safin. he can always plays like this but he had lack of motivation. that are his last tournaments so he is motivated.
i am very glad because of safin.

I am speechless at the result - above all, simply delighted that Safin has won back to back matches so comfortably. Really nice to see.

Looking forward to quarter-finals against Nadal.

What the hell Fernando?

There's nothing to be surprised about here. Feña faced 20 breakpoints and only won 38 % of his second serve points against Ferrer.

Sorry for being stupid here, but I was actually wondering what this "SE" means.

Sorry for being stupid here, but I was actually wondering what this "SE" means.

Special Exempt – players who are unable to appear in a tournament's qualifying draw, because they are still competing in a previous tournament, can be awarded a spot in the main draw by special exempt.

Check out this list :

Mersi! Wasn't all that easy searching for "SE tennis" in google. :P

I had actually seen the list before, forgot about it though.

Nice to see him do relatively well. I didn't see the match but hope it was indeed a case of Marat playing well in stead of just an occasion of Crapzalez showing up. ;)

played with focus and intent. If he can keep his level this high, he can beat Rafa... although it's that "if" that makes me nervous

I love the thread title. Just because this is one of Marat's last few wins, the damatisation is excessive :rolls: 6-4 6-3 is now a smashing :tape: Are you for real?

What Burro is going through is called withdrawal issues. With Marat gone, half of his life will lose its meaning :haha: Same is to be expected of Rone, Mellow Yellow and CyrusKing, when Roddick and Nadal retire.

cmon now. 6-4 6-3 on the professioanl level is a pretty dominant win. Especially against a top 15 player.

I would LOVE Safin to blast Nadal away, and he has the kind of two handed hammer that usually bludgeons Rafito, but can he keep the points short and sweet...

It's just a couple of breaks mate. If you're really serious, I'll just suppose that it's because of the irrelevant tennis season patch.

Safin served very well and just kept hammering the backhand to Gonzo's slice backhand. This was 80% of the match.

10-08-2009, 11:10 PM
It was clear Gonzalez - who won the last six meetings between the two - wanted to provide Safin something to be happy about before hanging his racket. The way he served and some of his unforced errors were simply shocking.
