many people say the old-timers look as though they played in slow motion. check out connors vs laver. looks like very high quality tennis to me.

I think Bill Riordan, Connors' manager back then organized these meetings. There was another against Newcombe just after the AO and a third one, I don't remember whom. He considered Connors as a "heavyweight champion" of the 1974 and had to defend his title.


The score seems harsh for Laver but what is shown from him in the video is just great play. I had already wtached several times. :yeah:

i believe connors played nastase in a 3rd "winner take all" vegas match. riorden capitalized on jimmy's rift with the atp(or whatever it was).

to think these were prime time events back then.

kind of amazing what they could do with a racquet a fraction of the size of todays.

Not just pretty good...any of today matches produce at best 60% of that spectacularity¡¡¡ today players are boring¡ ( not that they are worse than old timers, just more dull)
