Zeballos's 4th, 3 set win in the tournament. He only had 1 match in the semis(d. Silva) where he won in straights(63 63).

Gaudio defeated Zabaleta, Junqueira, (2) Gonzalez, (5) Chela but couldn't defeat the top seed Zeballos in the one-handed Argentine finals battle:fiery:

Great tournament in the Petrobas series-cup-championship-thing

Great week for him. This is finally a really strong Challenger that he wins, after having won several very weak ones earlier in the season.

Zeballos is the challenger player of the year, maybe XD

Well he has gotten from nearly 200 to 58 almost solely on challengers. He really struggled in this one however.

Horacio Zeballos is as high as # 58 in the rankings - "only" by playing well on the Challenger-Tour!

This system is actually pretty crap that he got so high with only challengers, but Zeballos makes good use of it. But it will all come down when he gets into top 50, then he has to go to the ATP, and we'll see what happens then...

actually the new point system that was implemented this year is disadvantageous to challenger players

True, and it´s far from easy to get constantly good results at challengers, the field is very tough and the competition is fierce, so all credit to Zeballos.

Zeballos totally deserves his ranking

will play European ATP indoors tournaments in the next weeks. good chances to win some matches there

In all fairness, it isn't as tough when you are clearly better than the rest of the field. This was the case in most of the Latin American Challengers Zeballos played this year. Based on this, I would not have picked him to win the Buenos Aires Challenger; he hardly beat anyone of note this year, despite having climbed the rankings so fast. Last week was a lot better for him though :yeah:

He really struggled in this one however.

Actually, he had many tight matches that he won during the whole year. Many tie-breaks as well.

By the way, I read somewhere in the forum that he had difficulties to win tight matches in the past, but this year it's clearly the opposite : I guess that's a miracle of "confidence" ;)

Zeballos has become the "Federer 2004" (confidence transformed by the Masters Cup 2003) of Latin-American challengers

Actually yes, I can see big differences between the levels of challengers tournaments (for instance last week Buenos-Aires and Quito, but it also happened in Europe this summer)

whereas the new ATP Ranking system has changed the points in a way that the difference in points between the challengers with a high prize-money and those with a low prize-money has decreased (when I read that challengers have been disadvantaged by the new system, actually it's the case of challengers with a high prize-money but not really the one of challengers with a low prize-money)

If you reach the final of a challenger with a high level, high prize-money, you will get less points than for a win in any challenger, even those with a poor field.

That looks awkward to me

damn, really thought gaudio would win. he was serving at 2-1 in the third too. good run from him.
zeballos has to prove himself in the ATP events.
