Even with the withdrawal of Roger and Andy, still a good field here.

Del Potro.

Difficult to bet against the US Open champion.

No, it's not. It's a joke compared to Beijing.

The field is a joke compared to Beijing, but still it's not a bad field, more like a decent field.

its a good field considering theres also another tournament the same with with other top players entered.

its hard to look past del potro for this, hes been great at picking off these smaller titles even before the US open win.

Well imo if Roger and Andy were playing, i would like this field better than Beijing's :)

Beijing has same points but more cash on offer, so Tokyo lucky the field is as good as it is. Should be easy for Del Potro, but I hope not.

Hard to look past Del Potro for the title, as others say...although Hewitt has given him problems before.

Isner might shake up the bottom half a little bit.

A bit, but looking forward to better matches starting from the QF.

None of those names seems too dificult for del potro.
But there are several players who could present him trouble.

No, I don't think he will have as many tough matches as he had in Washington.
Plus the conditions there were terrible for the body.

It will be harder than it looks for Del Potro ..

Remember this year's Wimbledon. He was on the first seeded spot (cos nadal withdrew) and got intimidated -as well as got into hewitt.. but i think the hype from the RG SF was there too...-

this will be the first time he ll play after a long break and a lot of things going on after that USO.. it will be tougher than it looks to me.. :) i wouldnt be so sure about his success

as for hewitt.. :help: didnt he lose to a retired Johansson in straights last week? :help:

and...its raining there in tokyo whole week so they may have to keep that centercourt roof closed entire time so that means that it turns indoors and that doesnt favor del potro just because he has pretty poor indoors record and what ive seen him play that surface its definetely his worst after grass.

of course if they dont have to close that roof then his chances to win this thing is 70%, still his struggles against cilic, lu, hanescu haunting my mind...delpo has not matured yet enought...can lose low ranked players 3-5 times/year ;)

this kind of tournaments are best places so suffer those surprise losses if he has to lose....

it is only Delpo's inactivity what concerns me

Unfortunately, that's not the case. Delpo faces Roger-Vasselin. Gulbis plays Stepanek.

Thats a weird order to play to tomorrow, why they only play 4 matches? and they even gonna put itf match centercourt, classic tokyo :haha:

with del potro out and in simon's half, would love simon to win back to back titles, if just to annoy certain posters on here.

Well, with my 1st candidate succesfully *jinxed* (:awww:), let's see who's next on the list...

Berdych? :bounce: - ah no, can't choose him, would upset Certinfy.
Tsonga? Hmmm... like him, too.

Okay, so it'll be Stepanek.

I'm a fan on Tsonga, tho wouldn't mind Youzhny winning :), tho as Tsonga is fighting for a place in the WTF's i hope, want and think he'll win. :)
