If Baggy can take Rafa to a tiebreak, I would be happy. He hasn't performed well recently.

Baghdatis on Nadal

"Honestly I'm just unable to play against Nadal," Baghdatis said."I like playing against Roger (Federer), but I just can't play against Nadal. I'm not able to return."

Who will win now? :)

Unlucky draw for Baghdatis. No chance.

If only Baggy can return to the form that got him to the final of Aussie Open, it would be a good match.

... which is very surprising given that he's been a top player for years and is a veteran in general

I was under the impression you don't expect anyone to beat Nadal ever anywhere. Who did you expect would beat him?

On paper obviously Nadal in two. I honestly haven't seen Baghdatis recently, but since 2006 I haven't expected much out of him, he totally lost that momentum he built from AO to Wimbledon after he lost to old man Agassi due to cramping which is quite embarrassing if you ask me. However, Baghdatis DOES have the game to hurt Nadal if he plays well, he has done it in the past in that second set @ Wimbledon 2006 and throughout their meeting in 2007 MS Paris.

Even without good results in 2008 and this year, the guy has made solid results  unless an Australian Open final defeating some good people and taking the first and set go and up a break against Federer, plus a Wimbledon semifinal that same year and then another quarterfinal at Wimbledon the next year don't all culminate as solid results. Most can't achieve any of that in life time :worship:

But seriously though, this could be SF 2007 MS Paris all over a again or even worse for Nadal, however I personally still have to say that on paper Nadal should take this easily in 2..

your sig says it all. you are a hata and one of them blind worshippers. you are sure to attract the attention of other blind worshippers like you here. and then you can all blindly worship together-- much to our amusement of course.

way to start out with ZERO credibility here. this is not cool at all. at first glance i thought you might even know a thing or about the sport. the sig however gives it away. you know absolutely nothing and you cannot possibly be a friend of the sport. very disappointing to say the least.

that kind of player bashing is not too cool to be honest with you. it just takes away one`s credibility instantly. surely you want to do better than this.

Baggy has Nalbandians beer bellyto thank for that final berth, and not his own form me thinks.

Difficult opening match for both.

Given the last direct acceptance for this tournament is 57 (the lowest of any ATP250 or ATP500 event this year I think), I think Nadal should be pretty happy with this draw.

Nadal in 2.

Its not a great matchup for Baghdatis. He doesn't quite have the firepower to go on a hot streak and hit Nadal off the court, he doesn't do well vs lefties in general and he's been error prone and inconsistent for several years now.

He will need his serve firing on all cylinders and remain mentally strong to force some tiebreaks.

But I doubt it will be anything but 6-3 6-3.

actually if the clay monster is off and i do expect him to be off, the baggy man may take the first set. remember that this guy was throwing in 78-85 mph second serves at the u.s. open just a few days ago.

i believe he will try to be protective of that abdominal muscle injury initially. and i dont blame him if he is extra careful. his fitness is off and his timing and his rhythm off the ground is off. you can expect the clay monster to be a little rusty.

i know he is 5-0 against the baggy man but given the current dynamics, i am not exactly sold on a 6-3, 6-3 easy win.

You would think it should be a good matchup (when Baghdatis was playing well). But even Nadal schooled him back when Baggy made the semis at Wimbledon.

nadal wouldn't be 'off' he has no injury and is well rested, yet has enough tennis under his belt from us summer events, expect 100% performance.

Never knew providing statistical evidence required credence
