 St.Petersburg. Why do all the Frenchies I like and who avoid Lyon for whatever reason go to St. Petersburg, and not to Vienna!!!! :secret: Frankly, I do understand: St Petersburg is a gorgeous place, but I can't imagine its beauty being the reason for young men.

Another loss. Things aren't really going well these days. Ofcourse, the draws are tough, but imo he should win against Melzer at this stage and get some important points and do well in bigger tournaments. He shouldn't become the guy that can only win mug tournaments...

And I still think his scheduling was awful. He hasn't got any rhytm at all because of that and that's also why he loses some close matches now.

In L'Equipe today:
He doesn't regret the break after the US Open to do some physical work, he's sure that it will pay off in the end. But he does think he should have played a smaller event than Beijing for his first tournament then, Söderling as a first match was a bit tough, it didn't give him time to get his rhythm again.
He confirms he'll play in Orléans next week because they helped him a lot when he was a Junior, giving him 3 WC. He had promised back then that he would return the favour one day and he wants to keep his word.

Merci Truc. I was a bit right that he should have played Metz or the week after, but glad he saw that as well. He'll probably learn form that.

And maybe it isn't that bad that he is playing Orleans. He should reach at least SF there and then he got some matches and wins under his belt for the rest of the indoor season.

In L'Equipe:
It says that Robert has a very unusual game, serving like Schalken and hitting his BH like Sluiter. He was out during one year and a half because of an hepatitis and is having his best season by the age of 29. Dying for a win, playing his home event there, he was the typical trap for Jérémy who had trouble coping with his "tournament favourite" status this week. Robert might not be very "glamour", but he has a talent for making the opponent play poorly, like De Chaunac who made beginner's mistakes against him on Thursday. Same in the 1st set yesterday, clearly won by Robert 6-3. Then a quick 6-2 for Jérémy in the 2nd set. But at 3-2 in the 3rd set, Jim started talking with the umpire, was dragging himself on the court, had to eat a bit. And it's impossible to play tennis "with one's mouth full." When he was serving to stay in the match at 5-4, he put himself in a difficult position with 2 DF. Robert took his 2nd MP: "The biggest win of my career". Jérémy: "I put myself too much under pressure in this tournament. I had a rough time here, but it will be a lesson to me. Such a loss makes me admire Federer and Nadal even more. They're expected to win in each event they play." Next up: St-Petersburg, where he will be less exposed. His mission: to avoid a 1st round exit for the 5th time in a row at ATP level.

Actually, he has been in quite good form lately (other than Stockholm) He displayed very good form in the Asian Swing playing 3 TB's against Tsonga. So, Chardy fans, I would be scared!

Ad Wim

It's tough to watch Jim these days. He has become almost an all-serve guy. He is the lesser guy in rally's, even against a mediocre guy like Gulbis...

Ad Wim
10-28-2009, 01:28 PM
And another bp saved and again the hold.

It's pretty shocking that whenever Gulbis is hitting a good return or a fast ball, Chardy can't cope with it. He is also very passive in his shots and his movements and lets Gulbis attack. And if he wants to attack himself, it goes into the net or out...

He hasn't got any chance on the serve of Gulbis yet, returns are also crap.

Survives another 15-40, again with big serving.

Gulbis is the much better player, that says it all. Hopefully he starts thinking about all these chances.

Chardy is also terrible at the net, missing volleys, hitting terrible half-volleys. Cannot recall him winning any point at the net...

Ad Wim
10-28-2009, 01:50 PM
Noooooooooooo, 5-3 up and a sp but loses it.

Hit 3 totally unnecessary UEs, one of them at 5-3, when Gulbis was very frustrated. Also a very good chance on setpoint at 7-6, but he goes to the net again :help:
You have to make use of those acts by Gulbis. If you win this first set, he will probably break down.
He could have taken this but considering the whole first set, it's deserved for Gulbis. I don't see Jim winning two sets in this form...

Ad Wim
10-28-2009, 02:01 PM
And broken right in the first service game, ofcourse at the net...
3 UEs this game from the baseline, he's done.

But at least they did it together. ;) It was not one doing great and the other one poorly. Richard did not serve well and Jim did not achieve much on returns.

Ugh. Blake hasnt played in months though, hopefully he'll be a bit rusty.

He didn't play for two weeks and before that he had two close losses to Nadal so he is not in bad form. And Jeremy is, so I don't count on a win here.

Good luck though.

He seems to have bulked up, hasn't he? The shoulders look much bigger to me. I haven't seen him properly on TV for ages, though.
The German commentator keeps saying that he will collapse as soon as he will be a bit under pressure on his serve, please make him eat his words, Jim.

Voilà, 6-6 with a big FH winner. :yeah:

In L'Equipe:
»He had troubles adjusting to the lighting on Court 2, he says that a spot was annoying him on serve, he got all worked up about it and was broken right away. But he also admits that it was just a "non-match" from him, he wonders why he was so passive, he says he wasn't creating anything on the court and didn't deserve to win.

He is playing right now against Monaco. Had a very good game to break, but then a terrible one which got Monaco the break.

He is playing very poorly from the baseline, missing lots of easy halfcourt balls. At the net it's fenomenal, I would like to see him more often there. Just play a decent approach instead of going for the winner.

11-10-2009, 12:47 PM

Just lost the set in the TB with a typical ball. Very easy halfcourt ball and he misses it completely. Also had a very good opportunity at sp in the TB, but he totally mishit a 2nd serve. It so volatile, hitting nice points but much more terrible errors. He can't play two good points in a row. It's a bit like St Pete...

Ad Wim

I'm not harsh, I think he has the potential of being top 10. But the way he plays today is just not top 100 worthy, it's terrible, you have to agree with me. And he has played like this for months now, it's so disappointing to see.

And here it is his own fault. Monaco wasn't bothering too much about this match, but when he broke back after that long game at 3-2, he got the spirit. There's where Jim went wrong.

I am not going to disagree. There have been pathetic performances after his good summer, but I always felt his success then came as a surprise to him and he still has to learn to digest wins and being a favourite in matches.

Ofcourse that, dealing with pressure. He said so in Orleans he had difficulties with that.
But maybe also getting used to the surface. His favourite surface is by far clay, and he hasn't done too well on others yet. That takes time I guess.

It was predictable even if he plays poorly in the indoors french tournaments this year. He's the local players and all the musketeers have direct entry. He will play some matches for Toulouse ? because since the start of the interclubs they're awful.

Truc
11-24-2009, 08:33 PM
He said after Bercy in "La Dépêche du Midi" that he needed to switch off and that he wouldn't play the Interclubs this year.
