I don't know the two guys but Arno's level of play is surely the biggest problem. He's free tomorrow to watch the DC double match

I will translate Arno's sentences later in the day. http://www.republicain-lorrain.fr/fr/permalien/article/1992149/Arnaud-Clement-veut-revenir-aux-affaires.html

Depuis quelques jours, elle me laisse tranquille… »
A force, même, on s’inquiétait.

Je vais pouvoir vraiment me tester.
Nostalgie ? Clément en tunique bleue, l’image paraît loin. Il rit : « C’était l’année dernière. »

He's always nice with his sunny smile and her eyes full of mischief. "I love coming here" in this Open that he has won in 2003. Since between loyal participations and Davis Cup, his bandanas has wrapped the memories of his many fans in Lorraine. But glory isn't forever eternal. Arnaud Clement like others must now contend with a body of thirty which has done so much campaigns and endless matches.
"For several weeks I have a sore elbow. In recent days she leaves me alone ... So I'm quite happy to go back on the court and no longer feeling pain. Since Roland Garros it was go back and forth ... And in those circumstances I hadn't the pleasure to play. "
At force we even got worried. This colorful character of the circuit would he leave the limelight? "No, it is not scheduled. As long as I have the desire and as I am able I will stay on the tour. The day I see that I haven't the level I stop. My retirement in any case is an actual reality ! If of course I lose my health everything can go fast but in 2010 I intend to return to be fit. "
"I need matches"
2009 bad year? Almost. With a closer look however Arnaud Clement cuts its season into two parts: "Until May, it was not too bad without being sensational. Some good matches. Then it was a little tougher ... May he afford and offer us an end of season thundering:" It's time that I needed for getting started. Open de Moselle is timely. I'm going to really test myself. The match is something else than training. The qualies suit me perfectly. I need matches "that doesn't seem obvious with this level who continues to grow.
"Between #120 and #80 there is not a great difference. But I'm happy to go to play blows Arno watching on television the match of Davis Cup of Jo Tsonga. Nostalgia? Clement with blue tunic the image appears far away. He laughs: "That was last year. "

that's right it was only last year. what difference a year makes! dropped out of top 100, out of davis cup... and more likely than not, it may be permanent this time.

In an other local newspaper. I will translate later but they make a mistake on his double partner but give more details on the injury and Arno has no big single hope here .

Arno struggles a lot on his service game. He has not the rythm of course and at the moment Sitak will hold his serves it will be tough to stay in that match :o. A kind of translation of the article.

Open Metz: "Above all, find my game"
Often injured, now far away in the world rankings Arnaud Clement arrives in Metz with one goal: refound a correct tennis.
METZ._ loyalty personified. Since he put in his pocket the first Open de Moselle in 2003 Arnaud Clement has not missed a single edition of the tournament in Lorraine. There was no reason he can not answer the call of Julien Boutter except that this time he must pass through the "qualifies". In a morose season marred by several physical problems "la clé" now points to a very modest 136th place in the ATP.
His record in 2009? on major: one of 32 final at the Australian Open and Roland Garros, a first round at Wimbledon (lost to Del Porto, anyway ...) and a loss in the U.S. Open qualies.
At 31 year-old the former world N10 (April 2001) doesn't loose the piece. Yesterday between a glance at the Netherlands - France Davis Cup and "District 9" in the cinema with his pal Nicolas Mahut he admitted that at the moment he thought only one thing: finding a correct level and finish on a better note this season very dull.
- Arnaud firstly a point on your health ...
- Simply everything is fine now! The tendinitis in my elbow long time trailed is just a bad memory and I don't feel no more the blocking back that forced me to withdraw from double in the U.S. Open. Now that I'm OK, I hope to be quiet on that way.
- You return to familiar ground in Metz ...
- Here I have my bearings and many good memories. I won singles but also three times in doubles (Editor's note: with Nicolas Mahut in 2004 and with Michael Llodra in 2007 and 2008). On this court I even won a Davis Cup tie so I'm always happy to play here. Now I must play well!
- At what clinches you when you fall in ranking?
- I like tennis that's all! Recently I had a lot of physical troubles which made me lose my game it was an overall decrease of my level of tennis but I don't give up.
- To return to the Open de Moselle you're set specific goals?
- Not in terms of results. I first want to find good feelings. I don't know my opponent (Editor's note: Russian Sitak, he faces today) but I focus only on my performance. And then I also align myself in double with Nicolas (Editor's note: Mahut) and that really count into my heart. But really my goal here as indeed for the rest of the season is getting better in terms of play and grow in ranking of course.

A lot of things this morning.

I think it's a mistake of the journalist about doubles, she did the same this morning  An extract of the article in EstRepublicain about qualies.

He says that there is a lot of things to improve but for him it was a correct come back. Physically it was good, he thinks it's going better on serve  and he adds that when you lost your last 7 matches it's good to set off again

And in RepublicainLorrain

It sounds less positiv and he says that each time he beats Ascione he was in a very good shape which is not the case here and he stress all the negativ points of his game : serve which was average, irrigular forehand. Things are different in each paper lol

In Republicain Lorrain again a kind of Portrait Chinois :). The translation later but you must know he loves the Sushis. http://www.republicain-lorrain.fr/fr/permalien/article/1998739/J-aime-les-sushis.html

Our well-educated boy is definetly not on a court :o You're a bad boy :armed:

Indeed nobody posted the score 4&4 and no BP but Jankko served very well according stats . Tomorrow doubles and he entered Rennes week 41 like Seb.

In the locals papers todays 2 small extracts about arno.
"When I will be able to accept this kind of defeat I must stop"

He knows why he plays badly and it disturbs him but he thinks there are solutions.

In press conference, arnaud gave his opinion about patrice dominguez's eviction.

I'm not very surprised, because I know how much players (especially the guys of DC) like Hagelauer. But I don't know what to think about Dominguez.
I notice he has the support of the young players (Jo, Richard....) but the "olds" like Amélie or Arnaud, don't like him.
It's always the same in general: arnaud, seb, amelie in one side (Forget's side)... and Jo, Gael, Richard on the other side.

Anyway everybody knows that's a long time that Arno doesn't like Dominguez.

Apparently Arno & Micka will only play Friday for the quarter. Not especially good imo.

Unable to win the final of Metz against Brits !

Lost to this team who is not really amazing even if they beat the Bryans this year is not the most impressiv result we have seen. Well we hope that he won't be too much frustrated by this but i'm pretty sure he will be . On positiv way he has played 3 singles matches and 3 doubles matches. Now he can take his train ticket for Geneva and continue the training

Wednesday Arno made an apparition on a local tv. Nothing interesting to translate but he makes fun at himself "he has already lose two times Arnaud Clement" lol and he really hopes to be totally fit soon. http://www.rtl9est.com/collectors1.php?id=291 It's in the second part of the show

The reactions on WLT

Arnaud Clement: "Of course, we are very disappointed but thank you to everyone for cheering throughout the week. I would also like to thank the entire organization, Julien Boutter, then all the ballkids we had the opportunity to discuss a little with them yesterday and it was great. And again a big thank you to everyone! "

Michael Llodra: "I would like to thank Arnaud because it's a long time we play together. And it is true that this season is the only year we didn't played a lot so it's always an honor and a privilege to play with you and even if we lost today we have played great battles together. I would also like to thank Julien Boutter, just dad, thank you for your support, it's always a pleasure to come back in Metz. I hope that we will come back and win the tournament! Thanks also to the judges line it's true that we are often nervous against you especially Arnaud (Laughter) but in fact we love you! Sorry again! "

Colin Fleming: "I'm sorry, I don't speak French so well It is the first time we entered in a final draw together and also the first time we win an ATP tournament both. Then of course we are very very happy! Thanks to the whole organization who has been fantastic.

He started the match with 2 aces in the first game so i was surprised . Of course it didn't last
Until the first break it was quite correct but from 3-5 in the first set it has been a real berezina on serve :o. Worst than possible . A problem with his elbow or something else because it not possible to be so bad ?

Playing such awful matches until the end of the year won't help him for next year . He needs at least an average serve cos here he's ridiculous  let see the stats on second serve 6/26 :o If he had an healthy problem he could have retire cos the second set was a real joke.

Kezzi

I was there today, first set went ok, but in the second nothing worked for Arno. In the first he wore that band at his elbow, in the second he took it off. Maybe that problem still causes a bad serve?

And there's around zero opportunity here to get to the players after a match. :(

Pity you don't talk to him but maybe it was better today, he was surely not in a very good mood  I assume he has said some nice words to the crowd and ballkids

I follow on scoreboard and yes first set seemed to be quite correct. But well he lost 8 games in row winning less than 5 points on his serves at the end. Maybe they can do a losers dinner with Marco, Nico and Thierry :p

And I don't know what to think about his situation  Since RG he played 11 matches losing 10 :o It's tough to see something really positiv since june and not sure the off-season will resolve his problems.

He has his doubles scheduled tomorrow and after going back in his home sweet home :cat:

We were OK about Stockholm he will play doubles with Lindstedt if he goes there of course maybe he would still be in Rennes at the moment of the qualies :rocker2:

No, not at all! He only yelled once at himself. And once he ssssh-ed some people who were standing next to the court, because they were talking. There was also one discussion with the umpire, but for the rest he behaved like an .
And I have to say, they have amazing ballkids here, some atp tourneys can take an example! The whole tournament looks like it's a mini atp tourney. Just less seating, shops, etc.

We will go to the doubles tomorrow and go home in the evening. :)

Thierry and Arno were better than expected in doubles, especially the second set. They had some pretty good points, but sadly it was not enough to win.
And this match too, Arno only discussed one or two times with the umpire, but he even smiled a lineswoman in the beginning of the match.

They had to start earlier, because Bohli twisted his ankle and retired. My sister and I walked on court, we saw Arno watching, he said hi, we asked him what happened with Bohli. But there was no more time for conversation... Arno left to prepare for his match. After the match we didn't have a chance to talk to Arno, as I said, they can leave the court without having to pass the audience, so no opportunity to get to them. We discovered we could've waited at the cars, but that was too late. Gicquel and Mahut told us Arno already left.
Didn't know Mahut was so easy to talk to! And his English is impressive!
We went up to him talking in English, then he asked in French if we could speak French. Obviously not, so he went on in English, asking where we were from and for how long we were there. Then when I wanted to ask him for Irina about Lagardere, it started raining really heavy again and he ran to the car, so no more time for that. :(
It heavily rained the whole day, at some point the drivers of the official cars drove right over the sidewalk up to the players entrance. If they had to walk those few meters, they would've been soaked. And then we come back in NL after 3 days of rain to find out that a part of the train station and some parts in town flooded. As if we hadn't seen enough rain. :p

in fact i'm using photoscape right now on some photos of nadal... i went to the beijing tournament and took tonnes for my sister with her husband's rock heavy camera.

Don't have time to upload now, but I will upload them in the evening. I found out I still needed to edit pics from Düsseldorf, Halle, Rosmalen and now Mons. That's just the tennis part, because my family is also very patient about my holiday in Paris. :tape:

we should also point out that photoscape is *free* lol

i'm useless when it comes to video software... so i appreciate all tips, although frankly i don't watch most of the videos in the links here :o just not so interested in videos!

i agree that arnaud should be where he is, and not a million miles away in shanghai with more disappointment likely in store for him.

just hoping that he doesn't find flying to australia too disagreeable, cos i'm thinking of going to melbourne next year just for the qualies.

So many talks about this Photoscape :) I'm going to try it too then, might need some "light" photo editing software for my laptop, just in case.

I believe there is no way Arnaud finds flying to Melbourne disagreeable, he loves Australia too much ;)

Lost to all those french players he always beaten before. C'est dur d'être vieux lol

Nothing special to say on that loss because with the way he plays lately i think he could lost against a WTA player . Well i'm sure it's tough to still have the desire to play but no more the tennis's level to contest during the matches . And that second serve :o but anyway on returns it's also bad lol

Stockholm's qualies, Lyon's qualies and then maybe begin to think to the reconversion options ;) ? The first 3 months of 2010 to decide something because i can't believe he will continue all along a year like the past 5 months . Imagine that since RG he only beats Dimitri Sitak
He seems to still have some hopes with the train during the off-season but it looks a bit like dreams . It's like for Seb you don't know what to think in a way it's cool to try and play but lost everytime in first round of challenger .

La question du jour:

What's worse ? Losing because you're injured and not in form -(seb), or losing because you just play crapy (arnaud) ?

I just would like to say to Arnaud there was a better option than a 8 hours flyght and 2 hours by train... STAY AT HOME until 2010 !
Honestly, what does he really hope for the end of the year ?? (Lourdes) :o

I wait the update of the double draw to see the reason of the WO.

He's far away in the qualy list of Basel & Valencia and will not have an enough ranking for Bercy qualies so i'm wondering what he will do  The guys here don't update the double list so no possibility to see if he's still entered with Lindstedt in Stockholm  Maybe he's already in holidays

I think Bastl just likes it and the rank doesn't matter that much to him. Saw him at the Aachen challenger a few years ago and he was just sitting there, reading a book, talking to other players, playing his match, and then sat alone for a while at the players party in the evening, before a small group of people decided to join him before me and my friend could. ;) Then we talked a few minutes with Marcel Zimmermann - the guy who followed us around all day :p - before ending up in the players car with some players (excl. driver there were 6 people in the car :p) for a drive to the train station. If Arno has at least 1/4th of the fun they had in that car at a tournament, I can definitely understand why he continues to play, even if that means playing challengers. :)

Translation of Arno's sentences in both articles

When I think about it, I still don't know how these things happen to me all the time. But Aachen is just way too small, there wasn't a players lounge, that helps a lot with experiencing these things. :p

Clement finally breaks losing run
Eurosport - Tue, 20 Oct 16:37:00 2009

French veteran Arnaud Clement won his first ATP-level match since Roland Garros as he broke a losing streak lasting almost five months with a 6-4 6-2 defeat of German Andreas Beck at the Stockholm Open.
http://d.yimg.com/i//ng/sp/eurosport/20091020/25/e3c3790eb750f9e99b7fc9a26330b6fe.jpg
Former Australian Open finalist Clement, ranked 138, turned the tables on his bad luck in dramatic fashion with the upset of the fifth seed after qualifying for the main draw at the Kungligahallen.

Clement's season had been a huge disappointment since winning his French Open first round against Russian Dmitry Tursunov, with the 31-year-old falling in seven matches since that success on May 27.
Clement is playing this week for the first time in a month after going out in the Metz opening round as a lucky loser to Serb Janko Tipsaravic.
The Frenchman's win was his eight of the season against 17 defeats and left Beck, the Gstaad winner on clay in August, standing 22-20.
The number 37 German, at fifth the only seed on court during Day two, saved a pair of match points in the penultimate game but eventually fell to Clement's overwhelming superiority on the day.
The winner broke three times while saving the only two break points he faced. He next plays either German Michael Berrer, a fellow qualifier, or rising Finn Henri Kontinen, the 19-year-old who lost the Wimbledon junior final in 2008.

Arnaud Clement won his eighth tour-level match of the season.
French qualifier Arnaud Clement won his first tour-level match since May as he accounted for fifth seed Andreas Beck 6-4, 6-2 Tuesday in the first round of the If Stockholm Open, an ATP World Tour 250 indoor hard-court tennis tournament.
The former Top 10 member had lost in the opening round of six tour-level events since a second-round showing (l. to C. Rochus) at Roland Garros. The 31 year old, who won three matches in qualifying, saved both break points he faced, while capitalising on three of the six opportunities he created to seal victory after 76 minutes. It was Clement's eighth tour-level win of the year.
"It was much better today," said Clement. "I've been losing in the first round of challenger events in the past few weeks but I'm starting to play much better. I've won a few matches in the last few days and it's great for my confidence.
"I wasn't feeling great physically in the last few months and lost all my confidence. Winning qualifying matches has helped me find my form, and winning my first main-draw match since Roland Garros against a seed helps a lot."
World No. 37 Beck, 101 places higher than Clement in the South African Airways 2009 ATP Rankings, slipped to a 22-20 mark on the season. The German reached his first ATP World Tour final at the Allianz Suisse Open Gstaad (l. to Bellucci) in July and recently posted back-to-back quarter-final efforts at the Open de Moselle (l. to Mathieu) in Metz and the PTT Thailand Open (l. to Melzer) in Bangkok.
Clement next will face fellow qualifier Michael Berrer, who ended the hopes of Finnish qualifier Henri Kontinen with a 7-5, 7-6(7) victory in two hours and nine minutes. "It's a nice opportunity to progress further but I can't take anything for granted," said Clement.

With the points he had for the moment = 462 he's more likely to finish the year between the #115 & #120. He needs around 50 points to hope the AO MD. We'll see.

Noting special in l'equipe today he's happy of course he says he moves well and plays at a correct level.

No time to see the stats at the end, something like 52 % at serve, 1 ace...
Well, I was wronf, he was ruight to go to Stockholm, it seems he found again some confidence in his tennis, I'm happy.
And he has a wildcar in Lyon. Cool. I know he likes the tournament.

ps: there was at least one french supporter today, I had time to hear him. lol

It's a good tourney for Arno anyway, from qualies to quarters is much more than anyone expected from him at this point. :)

46/46

It was a solid Marcos especially on serve except at the beginning of the second set when Arno broke him but otherwise very solid. Arno would need more first serve today to hope something cos it was not very well on that department. Otherwise in the game i found he had a correct level it was not annoying to watch that match :)

Oscar Hernandez in first round of Lyon. Arno needs some rest but maybe another win ?

With the points he had for the moment = 462 he's more likely to finish the year between the #115 & #120. He needs around 50 points to hope the AO MD. We'll see.

Noting special in l'equipe today he's happy of course he says he moves well and plays at a correct level.

thanks, i think i should start the ranking watch again! lol

Yes their last meeting in Lyon is a bad memories lost in two tie-break.

On WLT they report few words of arno before the match

He takes this win even if the end has been strange, he's tired by last week  but he'll try to beat Becker. He takes more pleasure especially in the first set and he feels more confident.

He plays with seb at 7.00 PM against the stockholm winners.

Arno made also some nice points at the volley very well touched. The first set decided the match before it was very close. We heard him speaking to the speaker at the end and he was very happy :) found his game more solid and thanked the crowd for the cheering because it's true we heard them cheering Arno all the match.

In the FFT audio http://www.fft.fr/gptl/2009/?ID=5537 you can listen him smile. He's happy and a little story about the black shirts of last weeks it's because it was more close of his state of mind lol now it's a mix a flashy coulours and black. Today he started in yellow and finished in black.

Your flu doesn't leave you ?

An interview in the local press http://www.lyonplus.com/fr/article/2139018,1762/Chaque-match-m-excite.html

To sum up the article. It's a huge huge pleasure for him because it's in france in front of his parents where he won his first title and because he's happy to play so solid. He seems very happy. He explains that with his age he had lost his natural speed and his velocity that's why in the last weeks he has worked on that with specifical speed sessions.
He had ice on his elbow during that press conference but he says that he feels fresh and he's very excited to play against Jo even it's a buldozer tough to return. He repeats that he has the goal to make the MD for AO.

His mother...always hidden somewhere at the opposite of the family's box. I'd like to understand soulage, pas toi ? lol
On a pic of mika's match I think it was her yersterday.
But today I didn't see her. They only show Jo's parents and sister, and a bit Henri Clement.
I don't know how his mother looks. :tape:
That's funny, I would like to understand too. Maybe because she gets really nervous and rather wants to sit next to strangers so she's obliged to keep her nerves? :p
I read somewhere Seb's father gets so nervous he barely goes to matches. (That's why I didn't instantly realise it was him when I sat next to him in Rosmalen a few years ago. Usually I try to avoid the places too close to the players relatives :p He's a very nice man btw :))

I liked that they showed him so much, it's good to see Seb is back and happy. :) And I saw Mika once too.

Speaking of Mika...lol...today he organised a wine degustation in the lockers room with all the staff, you know, in Lyon it's at home, it's a family atmosphere, everybody knows everybody..well mika even went to the cabin of sport+ with the commentators during the match with his wife, all happy, as usually, joking and making taste some wine to Lionel Roux (former player)

Oh yeah he can be proud ! And throw himself some flowers too ! lol
He never said "ok I stop that's too pathetic this year". Not like us. lol

And yess, in the tie break, I would have killed him at 5/1 (I think) , his cr... passing in Jo's racket (au lieu de croiserrrrrrrrrrr !!!).

don't you wear face masks in europe? i know it attracts attention but at least you're 'safe' to be around. it's all the rage in east asia.
Well, we can meet some rare people wearing a mask in the street, like 1 /day.

well well.... arnaud goes on fire at the end of the season, to prove all critics - and fans wrong! and that damn Via who's already booked her trip to see the qualies in melbourne! :fiery: lol

congrats little man, this tournament is starting to look like yours, just look at saturday's itinerary :worship:

but as a persistant pessimist... i have to wonder if he only gets motivation when at home, and surrounded by good friends and family?? can't he find a way to work harder when away, and even alone? we're not totally wrong when we criticised him, he might be hurt but his mind was hopeless.

ok now that he's got all the points he probably needs for melbourne, and my trip is pretty much dead... i wish him all the best with ljubo, hopefully they both have tired old legs (so things are equal except for that head-to-head)

I just read in l'equipe that Arno returns a 216 km/h serve of jo at 8-8 in the tie-break  I didn't realise it was so fast.

I think Ljubo is in a very good form but it would be good to win at least on of the two matches he has today.

I believe it's not a good idea to annoy players with questions before the match... Though it's not surprising that he couldn't sleep, he was probably worn out both physically and mentally with a long match like that and all those match points.

That's interesting, I haven't looked at his performance in Lyon from the "home" point. Then it's probably a combination of him feeling better, the pay off of the work he'd done and the home factor.
And as for our criticising, I agree, don't see what's wrong with it. We just were realistic - and Arnaud was good at criticising himself as well :p

And thanks a lot for all the countless updates, news, articles, interviews, videos etc. Though I have to admit after having watched too much of live tennis this week I'm a bit lazy to watch through all the Arnaud stuff. But anyway it's nice to see that he is still so popular between medias and gets so much support from the crowd.

Waiting the FFT audio fist reaction on WLT

"Sincèrement je me sentais bien.

He wasn't feeling bad even with less "jus" than yesterday. He thinks that yesterday was the highlight of his year lol but he thinks he played correctly better than during the rest of the season. He's boosted for next things to come :)

It doesn't tell me anything special, it's just that yesterday when I was thinking about Arnaud's epic match he pulled out of blue, I missed the fact that he was playing in front of his friends and family. I mean that he's played quite a few tournaments in France lately, and it didn't seem to improve his playing form. But this week maybe it was just the right timing: he told that his elbow was feeling better, he mentioned that he knew about his problem and was working on it, he had a lot of support, was playing in doubles with his best friend etc. It's just that I was a bit shocked to see him playing that well and being that confident yesterday after all those previous pathetic performances, so I tried to furuge out where it could come from.

EDIT: I love his "Well, listen, looking at my performances yesterday and today you'll say "Oh yes, he certainly played a way worse than yesterday", but comparing my today's match to all my performances this year I'd say that today I played better than in 95% of other matches" from the audio interview. I'm happy Arno is feeling better and also playing well, it's good to end the season. Think he'll see the new year a lot more positive.
It sure will help his family and friends are there, especially Seb. After such a long time of injury, I would also be glad to have my best friend back. Let's hope hey win in doubles, I've seen Bolelli play doubles in Dusseldorf, but that was with Starace. Don't remember if they played well tho... But that is different, he's not playing for his country with another Italian. I think Arno and Seb are maybe a better team, because they know eachother so well.
Would they show the match on livestream? It still works for the Gilles - Mika match, but for doubles? I'm watching the justin.tv one.

He says he's again a tennis player. He will take 2 or 3 days of rest and will wait to see if he receives a WC for the Bercy Qualies but he's happy to have again sensations on court. He's happy of the GS goal who is still alive. If he had continues to go down in the ranking he could have decide to skip january to work his fitness.

I looked on the ranking and he should be #94 next week so for the AO MD it's OK for the moment but it remains some challengers for many players so he's not totally sure for the #100 even if it seems in a good way.

Some players are just few points behind him and there are some big challenger like Brastislava who give many points. This week 2 challenger give 100 points for the winner while their field are very poor so it's a good opportunity for the high ranking guys in the draw.

It's a pity for the second loss in a row in doubles finals  but i'm sure they take pleasure during that week playing together after a long time without doing it :D.

The organisaters of Bercy gave a wildcard to Safin, Seb and Mika.
Safin and Seb because they're former winners. Mika because of his final in Lyon.
So Arnaud will have to play the qualies.
