I've updated the stats after Beijing 2009
Here are some facts worth mentioning:
- Rafa has no longer a negative H2H against Blake (3-3 now) :D
- first meeting with Cilic comes up with a loss ;( (0-1 now)
- Rafa has improved his H2H's against Baggy (6-0 now) and Safin (2-0)

Could you, please, dig up is Rafa the only one who has positive H2H record against each of TOP10 (not even equal H2H) in history? If not how many weeks is he at the position? And what is the record? I don't remember Feds doing that as there was nice transition from Henman, Hewitt, Nalbandian to Nadal, Murray, Simon now.
What about Sampras, Agassi, Borg, Lendl, JMac?

OK. I will try to be as clear as possible.
Currently Rafa has positive H2H record against anyone in TOP10. Count how many weeks he is at that position? Meaning how many number of weeks he has positive or equal H2H record against TOP10 players? Has any other player done that (having positive or equal H2H against anyone from TOP10 even for a week). I doubt Fed's done that because of negative H2H against Nalbandian, Hewitt, Henman and then Rafa, Murray, Simon.

Note: it's difficult because players in top 10 can vary as well as their H2H any week

I've updated the stats today

Rafa in Paris 2009:
Matches: 3-1
Sets: 6-4
Games: 52-53

Preety bad stats in my opinion
Nole is definetely depigeoning himself right now
And Rafa still needs one win to join the "400 singles wins club"
His win ratio dropped
But on monday he will be still no.2

And I've added Rafa's latest award :)

Games 24-38

I think it was 46 weeks.

Anyway I found another interesting record.

Rafael Nadal has either equaled or set various records in tennis history.

1. Longest single-surface winning streak (clay): 81 matches (2005- 21 May 2007)
2. Winning the French Open at the first attempt. Tied with Mats Wilander (1982)
3. Only the third teenager in history (since 1973) to reach world no. 2
4. Most consecutive clay court winning streak: 81
5. Most consecutive French Open titles: 4 tied with Björn Borg
6. Winning French Open and Wimbledon in the same year. Tied-three others in Open Era history.
7. Only male player to have won French Open, Wimbledon, and Olympic gold medal in the same year (2008)
8. Won most titles as a teenager: 16 tied with Björn Borg
9. Won 24 consecutive matches, the longest winning streak of any teenager in the open era, in 2005
10. Most consecutive French Open finals in the Open Era: 4 (tied with Borg, Lendl and Federer)
11. Most consecutive Masters Quarterfinals (Hamburg 2008- Paris 2009)
12. The first player to win 400 singles matches in fewer than 500 matches played (401-91).

It's Rafa's rankings history on the ATP official site

I've counted - and there are 40 weeks when the ranking was published and when Rafa was no.1

So maybe weeks when rankings where published doesn't fit the calendar weeks ?

But, I believed a new ranking is published every single monday

Any ideas guys ?

I've found mistakes in Rafa's ATP rankings history:

There is no ranking as of 01.09.2008, 26.01.2008, 16.03.2009, 30.03.2009, 01.06.2009, 29.06.2009

Every week since he appeared in the ATP official singles ranking for the first time.

In fact someone posted that Borg or else lost only 10 games one tournament. But probably you can safely say the least amount of games lost and percentage games lost per Masters series tournaments 1000.

But... in achievements you can change 6 consecutive years with at least one Masters to ''6 consecutive years with at least 2 Masters 1000 titles (no other player won one title for so many years in a row)''

And the last one... he was the fastest in Masters 1000,not in general tournaments

I will soon release compare stuff of Rafa,Fed and Andre at Masters so it looks like this

5:

Agassi – Miami 1995. His 31st tournament and he was 24
Federer – Indian Wells 2005. His 41st tournament and he was 23
Nadal – Monte Carlo 2006. His 17th tournament and he was 19

10:

Agassi – Paris 1999. His 58th tournament and he was 29
Federer – Miami 2006. His 47th tournament and he was 24
Nadal – Monte Carlo 2008. His 33rd tournament and he was 21

15:

Agassi – Madrid 2002. His 76th tournament and he was 32
Federer – Montreal 2009. His 75th tournament and he was 27

I think we can formulate better way to his 5th,10th and 15th Masters title. Its confusing at the moment and I think its better to count from his first tournament and not from first won (it will be very clear)

Maybe like this :

Nadal scored his 5th,10th and 15th Masters 1000 title faster then any other player :

5th title in Monte Carlo 2006. Was his 17th tournament at the age of 19

10th title in Monte Carlo 2008. Was his 33rd tournament at the age of 21

15th title in Rome 2009. Was his 43rd tournament at the age of 22

And after that you can add compare with Roger and Andre that I wrote.. his achievement will be very clear compared to them

All other stuffs looks great

05-03-2010, 09:09 PM

we should get a nadal vs borg comparison ON CLAY.

like titles, most consecutive matches won, most titles won without dropping a set, most bagels, 5 set record, winning %, winning % in finals, etc.
and their french open comparison of matches won-lost, sets won-lost, games won-lost, winning %, winning % in finals, etc.

a comprehensive comparison between borg and rafa on clay is needed.

we should get a nadal vs borg comparison ON CLAY.

like titles, most consecutive matches won, most titles won without dropping a set, most bagels, 5 set record, winning %, winning % in finals, etc.
and their french open comparison of matches won-lost, sets won-lost, games won-lost, winning %, winning % in finals, etc.

a comprehensive comparison between borg and rafa on clay is needed.

Lets wait for Roland Gaross and after that we can make something.. I know we need this

While we are waiting for at least two new big achievements in the next few day,I think it will be good to change Two Consecutive Masters 1000 scores... (of course, after the French, when you find time and update all other stuffs, its not that important)

First of all,Guga Kuerten and Thomas Muster didn't won back to back tournaments and I think its better to make the list in chronological order. I will also put the result of the next tournament player played, just to show how close was each of them to achieve 3 Masters 1000 in a row. It can look something like this...

Only 13 players won back to back Masters 1000 titles, and Rafa won 6 times out of 21 in total

1991 : Jim Courier - Indian Wells & Miami (not played in Monte Carlo)
1992 : Michael Chang - Indian Wells & Miami (not played in Monte Carlo)
1994 : Pete Sampras - Indian Wells & Miami (not played in Monte Carlo)
1994 : Andrei Medvedev - Monte Carlo & Hamburg (lost in 3rd round of Rome)
1995 : Andre Agassi - Canada & Cincinnati (lost in 3rd round of Essen)
1998 : Marcelo Rios - Indian Wells & Miami (not played in Monte Carlo)
1998 : Patrick Rafter - Canada & Cincinnati (lost in 3rd round of Stuttgart)
2001 : Andre Agassi (2) - Indian Wells & Miami (not played in Monte Carlo)

2004 : Marat Safin - Madrid & Paris (lost in 3rd round of Indian Wells 2005)
2005 : Roger Federer (2) - Indian Wells & Miami (lost in 1/4 of Monte Carlo)
2005 : Rafael Nadal - Monte Carlo & Rome (not played in Hamburg)

2007 : Rafael Nadal (3) - Monte Carlo & Rome (lost in final of Hamburg)
2007 : David Nalbandian - Madrid & Paris (lost in 1/4 of Indian Wells 2008)
2008 : Rafael Nadal (4) - Hamburg & Canada (lost in 1/2 of Cincinnati)

He stopped at 24 in 2008. (just one against Gulbis, otherwise it could been all the way to the final) and he achieved that today also... hope he can go to 27 in two days :worship:

And about number of his weeks in ranking.. I know ATP skiped weeks in players ranking list but it doesnt matter,I'm sure we need to include all of them (your last update was few weeks ago but difference is still very big)

I think it should be like this :

For Top 100 : 376 weeks (from 21. 4. 2003 to 5. 7. 2010)
For Top 10 : 271 weeks (from 25. 4. 2005 to 5. 7. 2010)
For Top 5 : 269 weeks (from 9. 5. 2005 to 5. 7. 2010)

Will check all others tomorrow,I'm tired now

I believe I know where the problem lies.
ATP doesn't count all weeks. I mean I have some missing weeks in my spreadsheet.
Take a rest Nadal_Power, I'll chek it out today or tomorrow
It was the same problem a few months ago with weeks as world no.1

Ok, I've cheked all rankings dates.
I was missing (ATP was missing) 50 weeks !!! as they don't release new rankings in late december and in second week of two-week tournaments

I've said this before, but this is the best thread on the site (thanks to several of you, with your amazing contributions). I value the tabulation and presentation of Rafa's records that I find here. Thank you. This thread is a fitting tribute to Rafa's work on-court.

As much as I admire Rafa's play (today in the Wimbledon final, and always), I respect even more the human being that he is -- the way he carries himself with grace and class...respecting others and respecting the game.

Congratulations to our champ -- both on the court and off.

It's pity but officially he hasn't won Davis Cup in 2008. Only players who were listed to play in the final can count it as a title. For example Granolers did not play a single match but has won Davis Cup in 2008.

ATP Tournaments.. 4th row : he is just 1 clay title away from Borg, not two (30-29)

And this is not small achievement :

* 7 player to win Slam as a teenager (Borg,Wilander,Becker,Edberg,Chang,Sampras before him)

We was waiting 15 years from Sampras for someone to achieve this and with useless players at that age this days Rafa is safe to be last for a long period

Now waiting for some new Masters 1000 glory :p
