Plenty of time for Richard to get some serious practice and finally get a win a match. That is all I am asking right now. Just 1 match in next tournament.

Hopefully he gets some nice support from the French crowd :)

I think this is a good chance for him to win a couple of matches and get some confidence for the more important tournaments later on but yeah right now we are really just hoping for at least one win!

I like to visualise things differently. In my eyes, Berrer has suddenly, out of the blue, developed a world class level of tennis, that only the likes of Federer and Nadal have previously shown, and is simply outclassing Richard and stunning him with his brilliance.

I'll come down from my cloud of optimism one day.

It's just one set, he'll still do this, right. Allez.

He darn better win this. He can't use his "I lack match practice and didn't hit many tennis balls" excuse forever can he?

But his long term goal has to be getting a right coach and get that status of a good player back. Before, few years ago, game was easy for Richard, now everything is very difficult and any opponent with any ranking presents a serious challenge for him.

He sure can try.

Well, judging by the interviews/media, seems like he is planning on getting another coach for 2010. I really think Deblicker is just a stopgap and I don't think being with him at this time is a bad thing.

Maybe you missed it, but there was mentioning of a foreign coach, for the first time. However, I don't expect it to happen this autumn.

Berrer is serving 93 % in this set so far.

Berrer has relatively weak first serve, so high % does not necessary mean unbreakable.

Am I the only one seeing a pattern here? I was looking at the scoreboard at the end of the match (it was awful), and it seems that in all his matches since he came back, he starts the match with a somewhat average return of serve and only goes down from there.

In his match against that doubles player (Vemic?) he wasn't anywhere near worrying him on his serve, especially in the third set. This guy was supposedly a big sever, but even against Nadal with his injury his return was awful (I remember he was asked about that in his interview after the match). Then today Berrer was winning about 2/3 of the points on his first serve in the first set, but spent most of the third set around 90% points won (around 75% in the second).

I think one of his big problems has always been a lack of confidence on his returns, and it looks like it has only gotten worse with the lack of match play.

The article about his match in L'Equipe:

Did Eric say something about being happy that Richie was not tired/still had energy at the end of the match?? I couldn't understand that part and when I did google translate it said something about having "coal" leftover - which I suppose could mean energy????

Thanks for the article. Now Richie show Rochus how you REALLY play tennis.

Fran and Margreta - funny but I sort of understood the last sentence. Sometimes in English we say something we don't really mean kind of in a saracastic way and then say "not" at the end. Example - Richard has the ugliest backhand - NOT (or au contraire).

Yes, you're right.:) charbon=coal, we can translate that like "énergie".

In a normal situation, I would see today's match easier than the first one against Lefty he had never played against. Rochus, on the other hand has no weapons, weak serve but moves well. Richard if he plays well and keeps his focus in, should get plenty of chances to break serve. Their Barcelona result was shocking though and how easily Richard lost the third set, so based on that I am little uneasy about this.

He should beat him 6-1 6-2 right now, or at least 6-2 6-3. He was utterly dominating the first set (according to the stats), was serving impressively, and suddenly he loses his serve to love on a double fault, losing as many points on this game as he lost on his serve during the entire first set?

Hey this is Richie, love it or leave it. Frustrating as hell but did anyone expect he'd be able to focus and concentrate BETTER and be more confident AFTER the time off than he did before? But I never understand how he actully plays worse after he wins the first set - seems like somehow that should boost him for the second set.

IN this matchup, it should be a matter of class. No matter the condition, tired, broken limb, he should be beating this guy relatively easy.
It's like whoever played tennis at any competitive level knows unless you are completely drunk or something, you can't really lose to really inferior player. And Rochus is clearly much inferior player. This is why this is SO hard to understand.

Hope you've been well.

It's Gulbis at Davis Cup last weekend. ;) Showing the lineswoman some love.

I'm fine thank you. My gran passed away last week, but tennis and time will make it easier to swallow I guess. And you?

I agree, some stunners. That dropshot in the second set was  :hearts: :speakles: Petzchner has kind of had a meltdown though. :o :help: Who will be his next opponent btw (barring a massive choke)?

A Gulbis fan then I take it? :p I like watching him play - he's got a great game but a headcasy head to go with it.

And Richie, what the hell was that? :o Poor, sloppy, overconfident in that game.

Sorry to hear about your grandmother. I'm ok thanks, just recovering from a bad virus but otherwise fine.

I loved that dropshot far too much! He plays winner of Monfils-Tipsarevic next.

Yes, I like Gulbis, can't help liking my headcases.

Well THAT was fun! Aside from a poor TB and an "out to lunch" game in the third he looked good.

It was nice to see him get tough after he played the poor TB. So tough in fact that Petzchner had a meltdown. When is the last time we could say Richie was mentally tougher than his opponent? Bravo Richie!

Monfils will be a different story but he can do it. EDIT - for some reason I thought Gael had already played and one but Tipsy could be tough too.

I can't believe I am back and he is still in the tournament. Yay.

PS hope this doesn't mean I'm his jinx.

Very sorry to hear about your gran Nadine.

Get well soon. :awww:

Monfils will be really, really, really tricky. :sobbing: But Richie's got a good record against the top Frenchies anyway, so let's hope he's able to bring his top game to the match.

Good luck to Gulbis in Tokyo :yeah: (I'm assuming that's where he plays next). Hopefully he'll end that annoying streak.

I think she's in a better place now.

I don't think you have any jinxing powers left to affect Richie; they only work on Pics.

What is with the commentator I see how and where they are hitting the ball  Don't need to tell me.

Yay he held!

I know he should have flicked that one cross court, wouldn't have had to go to duece!
