How are people picking Nole? What are their head-to-head record? I don't know all the stats but I remember Federer beating up Nole pretty regularly back when he was still No 3

Fed leads 7-4. Djokovic has beaten Federer twice this year. (Rome, Miami)

Fed in 2 if he plays like he did today against Murray, Nadal wasn't returning very well today, he didn't really challenge Nole enough, and Roger returned so well Murray today!

I have a feeling Federer will win. It can go both ways, though, and honestly it doesnt matter that much.

This definitely isn't the final I was expecting.

It's tough to choose. They both really picked up their games in the the semis. I voted Nole in 3, but I could see it going either way.

I suppose Roger had the slight advantage of playing earlier in the day, but considering that conditions have been cool this weekend and that Djokovic's match tonight was not especially long and grueling, I rather doubt that the few extra hours of rest Federer had will be a huge factor.

I'm more curious to see how well Djokovic will rebound mentally. He's been struggling with his confidence as of late, and having a routine win over his biggest rival should have a big effect on him. The question is whether it will result in an immediate boost in confidence, or whether he'll find it difficult to win two big matches in a row.

Should be an interesting match.

It's all about Federer's slice and bringing nole to the net. If so, Roger wins.

But if Nole is not mentally weak, he can win this.

The match is more important to Nole than Roger

I wonder if Novak will be capable of eliciting another classic meltdown out of Federer tomorrow?

Federer in 3 if he's off, straights if he's on. Hard time seeing Djok replicate tonight's performance. Might have been to easy.

This tactic has not been as effective for Federer this year as well as last year because he is not passing as well. His BH pass has been really poor at times and he has missed easy FH passes lately that he never missed in years past. He's always relied on this tactic when playing big points 15-30, deuce, 30-40, etc. but he doesn't as much anymore because he doesn't have the same faith in his footwork and then subsequent pass attempt.

Good players (mostly the top four, and now even Roddick) aren't put into an immediate disadvantage from that slice anymore. Djokovic, if he's on, eats up shots like that and Federer if he does manage to bring the player in isn't passing as well as he used to.

judging by the poor level of match predictions of MTF, I reckon it would be safer to go against the flow and say that Nole will win this.

this is more important for Djokovic than for Federer, but Fed will be looking for revenge for the two bad losses he had this year to Djoker.

both have nothing really to lose and they both looked great in their SF matches, so it should be a great match.

either Fed in straights or Djokovic in 3 (a la Montreal), I'll go with Fed.

Laba
08-23-2009, 03:48 AM
Fed in straights. Djokovic won't be allowed to play the same way he did against Nadal. I personally hope it's a three setter though with at least one tiebreaker for drama.

Both Federer and Nole displayed some incredible form - worth getting up at 4am to watch even though I'm like a zombie now. It is kind of tough to pick, but I think Federer will be too good in the end and win in 3.

I was really excited by the tennis today and hope for a good final.

Why do people think that this match is more important to Novak than it is to Fed? Honestly, I don't think either one cares all that intensely about the outcome (not like their semi-final matches when they were trying to recover from consecutive defeats; Federer NEEDED to win against Murray and Djokovic, likewise, NEEDED to win against Nadal).

I don't think either one NEEDS to win.

Well I think this is important for Fed, as it will be his first HC masters in 2 years.

Important to note that Novak was playing decently throughout both those matches and was getting absolutely crushed by Roger. He won both times because Roger inexplicably fell asleep.

I am going with Federer in two. Fed is the tennis master of all masters. The way he schooled Murray, his pupil in two, he will also school Nole, just to make a statement that these two are not in his league, yet and may never be. On a different note, Nole's tennis is more attracting and attacking than Murray's boring defensive tennis, and Nole is a better match up for Fed then Murray. I am a Rodick fan, but a fan of beautiful tennis indeed, and both, Nole and Fed play the most beautiful tennis of all. Fed is the GOAT and the MAESTRO, with experience and mental toughness. Nole is lacking experience and mental toughness and I am not too sure he will ever achieve that in his career, because he wears his emotions on his sleeves, something you cannot afford to do when competing at a high level. But Nole,s talent and goundstrokes are beautiful, no matter what haters think/say!!!!!! Voting for a beautiful, exciting match on a Sunday afternoon!

This should be a great match. Both guys have played themselves into form and are now looking great. They both have amazing hardcourt games but Federer’s offence will be just too good for Novak.

Fed in 3!

I don't understand how you can say Fed is in good form. He played one good match and suddenly he's back in good form?

Just a week ago we were talking about him choking against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and how he was done. He also had a terrible match against David Ferrer, in R3, I think? Fickle this MTF, no? There's no guarantee he'll be able to bring the same kind of level against Djokovic. This isn't 2006.

I'm still going with Federer in 3

The Jock to rise from obscurity and dominate Fedzilla in two straight sets in scenes reminiscent of RG08 final... a performance so tactically complete that the bookies cannot deny and move The Jock to outright favourite...
