Djokovic beats physically limited Simon.

Never in doubt. Mostly because Gilles barely moved for the last 5-6 games. His knee mustve been bad.

Gilles was definitely bothered with the knee.

Very, very good first set by Djoko, best one in weeks. Unfortunately a scrappy 2nd set but good to have won in two.

Inconsistency, not being able to consolidate breaks of serve.

nope, he was celebrating because djokster is back. atp prepare for total destruction. djoker is confident with his stroke again like he used to be. if u are not careful, he might hit a 100 mph forehand at your balls.

Wasn't that bad match as I expected to be, Djokovic was solid on patches with controlled aggression. Those drop-shots was laughable, he almost lost 3 times more then he won, but in long term they were very useful, forcing Simon to play closer to the baseline and thus making him more vulnerable on shots to the corners and plus wearing him faster. Still, some bad shot selection with slices sometimes, and a big weakness of not following power baseline shots to the net, because Simon retrieves them all down the middle.

It looks like Novak continues the unnecessary melodrama, which he calls 'personality'.
I think he played a good match, he would beat a completely healthy Simon too.

Hmm.

Too erratic. Good form in patches and then whatthefuckery on shot selection.

Should have finished it sooner than that, Simon was barely moving at the end.

Too many dropshots, especially backhands to the sideline.

He's playing too far back and putting more spin on the ball than he ever used to, and yet he still decelerated the racquethead on some shots and misses them as a result.

There's just too many things not looking good at the moment for me...he's playing to not lose, almost, rather than to win.

I hope Gilles knee heals in time for the USO.

He has a tendency to fold near the business end of sets and matches against Djokovic. But it sounds like he was hampered today.

Djokovic has a tendency to play too many drop shots, but Gilles' subpar movement must be why he was using so many today.

OK match. Simon could barely move in the end. If Rafa makes it through should be an interesting match between these 2 as always.

FOr fuck's sake. :o Gilles couldn't move at all, Novak :help: get it together, he needs to stop acting like he just won the USO when in reality he only beat a player on one leg. :o Win the tournament.

Well, he won the match, let him celebrates. He's just celebrating the fact that he's in another SF of a Master 1000, not the fact that he beat someone who can't move. Nole needs to think positive to do anything against the big 3. It's about time he put his act together so ppl can start thinking he may have a chance to win some decent title.

Yup, he got it done in two sets, he's going into the semis with reasonable chances - not so bad in the end. :)

poor old Nole, whenever he does start finding form and making it to semis - Nadal is always around and looking back to his best

Djokovic vs. Nadal should prove more exciting, and perhaps Murray vs. Federer but that could be UGLY.

Who would win Nole vs. Rafa? I have no idea who has the edge right now on hard courts. I think I'd still go with Novak because it'd be his chance to step up and really swing big on his shots with confidence, like in all his past hardcourt victories over the bull. And Nadal's movement still looks a bit tentative, naturally.

There seem nothing wrong with Nadal's movement right now against Berdych:shrug:Another lose to Rafa could finish him totally for the reast of the season:unsure:If Novak continue with the passive play he will lose tomorrow:shrug:

Still a good thing Simon was able to salvage a few ATP points with these 2 Quarters running. Hope Djok now has a shot at the title.

Simon is one of those guys who is fun to watch depending on the match-up. His clash against Rafa last year in Madrid was :worship: fantastically entertaining tennis. It always helps to have a contrast in styles, and both Djokovic and Simon were just pushing from the baseline.
