Hard Court Paint

Do you think hard courts should be allowed to be painted in two colours (with field around the court in different colour, like in US Open) or they should be painted only in one, like in Australian Open before 2008?

Do you think that matters at all?

Court painted in one colour is more similar to natural surfaces courts (clay, grass). Two colours court is more tiresome for player's eyes, imo.

Some genius just needs to figure out how to paint a line that doesn't get slick when wet and has the same bounce characteristics as the rest of the court when it's dry... I mean WTF. this is the 21st century. Somebody's got to have enough brains to pull that off.

I loved the Australian open colour before 08 and I loved the pre-2004 US Open colour. So boring now, green and blue everywhere.

I like all 1 colour.

So true.

Dunno if it bothers players... doesn't bother me when I play. It's certainly better for the audience and nicer to me as it is now.

Two colours court suits more to doubles players than singles players. Whole their out area is painted in one colour (sidelines). :D

I like two colours.

AO has always sucked in appearance. Pukey green was yuk and even the ball kids and the linespeople look so dorky.

Now all the same blue at Melbourne Park is just awful.

I guess the AO2008+ appearance is the best possible. It suits me the most.
I also liked Miami and US Open in late 90s early 2000 - dark green and light green.

It's not the same blue.

Wow, yes. It became painfully obvious in that Rafa-Seppi match yesterday...
Well noted.

I like two colours, but i wish there was more variety between tournaments other than the dominant blue and green

How about pink . I can't believe that we are seriously talking about paint for crying out loud.

There is coloured cement already. It would be ultra-expensive doing courts like that, though.

Don't forget most HCs have a synthetic covering.

2 colours makes a nice contrast.

btw to the thread starter clay isn't a 'natural' suface, or at least not to me. crushed bricks isn't natural, or no more so than painted cement.

p.s cant believe no one has said this thread is as exciting 'as watching paint dry' lol

All courts should be the color of the beautiful Paris MS courts.

Me too. The green was more cheerful...The shade of blue they use really reflects too much light and makes my eyes tired. Just don't like it really. :(

I like both the past and present AO colors  . The light green was good but shadows could be quite a mess sometimes with the light green court and yellow ball (at least to me). I'm much more a fan of the two colors.

I kinda like the purple that the TMC had

all blue

HC should be all blue
Grass all green
Clay all red

p.s. why there isn't any just singles court left btw? without the doubles' part?
been watching many matches like this in the past, but those disapeared.

I quite like it when the outside court is a slightly different hue of the same colour, like the Australian Open now.
