Anyone know the reason? I suppose wrist or shoulder or something, Jeremy was winning a massive amount of points on his serve considering how big it is.

Great stuff, Jim. Needed to keep focused and positive after the poor tiebreaker and did just that, managing to break Big John twice in the second set. Take out Nole next. ;)

could be his ankle, he twisted it in LA and has played every week since...

Hope John is ok, it would be awful if he had to miss the Open.

Thats probably it, he wasnt winning any points off Chardys serve so it would explain why he was only winning points off his own, not having to move much.

Always sad to hear a player had to retire because of an injury, even when rooting very much for his opponent.

Get well soon, John...

But can't hide it - very happy for Jérémy! Congrats! :D

Yup. Isner on his own 2nd serve won 0/8 points in the 2nd and 3rd set. In the same period, Chardy won 28/29 points off his own serve.

Sounds like Isner was battering the first serve, then couldn't run.

How was Jeremy's level of play?

I saw the first set. He had no trouble on his serve. Pretty steady.

Apparently, Isner retired due to heat exhaustion.

Apparently, Isner retired due to heat exhaustion.

American organizers made a mistake giving Isner's match on Day Session. Isner should have played in Night Session instead of useless match Hewitt-Benbeck.

Isner needs to work on that fitness big time. It's not like he has to do a whole lot of running....seeing as how his serves produce so many winners.

John's nice and all, but I'm glad Jeremy got the win. I hope he wins some matches at the Open.

I predict that by this time next year Chardy will be ahead of Simon, Tsonga, Monfils et al as top French player.

Well done Jeremy.

Nole next... Chardy will probably lose in 2, but I'm hoping for some enjoyable tennis anyway. :)

Glad Chardy won this, Isner had a good 1st round win but he always has to struggle which may cost him when going deep in events, anyway good win for Chardy

Not surprising, he was pretty much dead by the third set against Haasclown.

It's good to see Jérémy advance, but obviously not by virtue of retirement.

Good luck in the next round though  Allez

Really needs to improve his fitness.
