Never in doubt. Some really nice volleys from Isner during the last couple of points, including a really nice drop volley at 5-3 in the TB. He's really improved his return game and consistency from the ground.

Isner now improves to 3-1 against Haas.

A very winnable match in Jeremy Chardy next.

That was a great volley at 5-3 in the TB...I find Isner much more watchable than Karlovic, his groundies and return are slowly improving, and he's very strong at tiebreaks.

Isner surprises with really nice stop-volleys :yeah: He's a final set TB killer: 11-3 in ATP.
BTW, Haas led *5:3 in the first tie-break.

John was just unstoppable in the breakers and on serve. Very brave points John played and won in the breakers helped him prevail. Great match from the American!!:worship:

Haas is like Roddick, the whole career entwines dramatic wins with dramatic defeats. A-Rod at least won one Grand Slam :o

it was a nice stop volley but it was a pathetic attempt at a pass by haas. he must've got caught in 2 minds over whether to nail it down the line or straight at the body because the result was something in between and had very little power on it.

Isner played more difficult stop-volley (backhand side) at 1:1 in the first tie-break if I remember well (with backspin).

I was thinking the same, it looked tame and pretty disappointing for a guy who's favourite shot is his backhand and a pretty good passer, he likes a target but even Berlocq could've hit a drop volley off of that.

Hard day on Centre Court on Tuesday:
7-6 7-6
3-6 7-6 6-4
7-6 6-7 6-4
7-6 5-7 7-6

I hope this trend sustains tomorrow ;)

try incompetent Haas with a pathetic single hander that folds under pressure 99.9% of time.

he also has no balls. i mean simply zero testicular fortitude.

isner played to win and seized the moment when he had the opportunity.

1st round of a MS tournament against an ace machine isn't exactly a match players bust their balls over.

Isner didn't exist on court in the third set except for the tie breaker. This is such a shame. Tennis lost today, only Isner's serve was what kept him alive. Tommy had one time 0-30 and two other times 30 all in the final set and could not take any advantage out of that :( His own service games lasted 30 seconds in set 3, Isner's return game was just ridiculous...Haas did not convert his break points in set one and lead *5-3 in the first set tie break and choked it away :o Big servers just suck.

If Isner moves little bit quick which would be more exciting to watch. Anyway now he is keep improving

That's right and sometimes this is the key to win a tie-break. It's a way to disguise true potential of a receiver and surprise an opponent in a tie-break. Haas shoud be aware of it, this year in Paris he won tie-break against Federer despite losing 24 consecutive points on Federer's serve before the tie-break.

I mean Isner is a smart tactician, that's why his record in the final set tie-break is so impressive.

I really thought Haas could finish the year back in the top 10, but not with results like this.

Top 10 is still very possible. Problem is that Soderling, Verdasco, Gonzalez, Davydenko and Tsonga (nearest guys ahead of him) will probably hold him off. But it isn't like there is too much competition going on immediately behind him.

Another good result for Big John. :worship: :yeah: A few more solid tournaments and he should consolidate his place in the year-end top 50! Got to think that he has a good chance to do that, with the fast Asian swing and European indoors to come, especially as he might grab a seeding in one or two of those events.

that would be highly appreciated, try letting me know somehow. I really would like to know what Isner thinks of the match, because I really can't remember when was the last time I was pissed off like now after this match.

Basically Isner said he felt really bad almost the entire match, but didn't know why. He admitted Haas was better, but Isner pointed out that he played great in the tiebreaker and that was enough to win since Haas could never break him in the third set.

He was happy with how he played, but upset that almost all of Haas' service points were Haas serve, Isner short return into the middle of the court, Haas put-away backhand down the line.

Said his goal earlier was top 50 by the end of the year, obviously he needs to revise that now. Said he eventually (I assume he means SOON) wants to be in the 20s.

Also said he went through nine shirts due to sweat. Didn't sound like he was entirely confident heading into today's match vs. Chardy.

Gimelstob got booed by the crowd after that

Isner responded by saying "He's a good looking guy, I'm not gonna lie."

Isner then said he and Roddick took over the title as tours biggest sweater(s) only after Gimelstob retired.
