P. H. Mathieu seems more stable winning these days.

Up and down match. PHM should have won in straights. He was terrible on break point conversions in sets 1 and 2.

Only followed the last couple of games on a constantly buffering livestream but, from what the commentator said, it sounded like a match of ups and downs. Glad PHM made it through after losing the first set and (IIRC) making a couple of DFs his last service game before breaking again to take it

I watched this match, and, well, Zverev has become such a pusher. Ok, his groundies have always been pretty soft, but the puzzling thing is that he doesn't try to attack at all and only pushes/slices the ball back into the court. I have watched him in the past, and he has an ability to serve&volley and to finish the points after rushing the net, but he's not using it anymore  Those very few times, when he actually went to the net, he didn't look very comfortable.

It was. Not a quality match for sure.

He was playing 3 meters behind the baseline all the time, so it's no surprise he's tired in the third. Actually at 76 55 bp, Zverev was so far behind the baseline playing moonballs that he didn't really have enough room to swing his racket.

Mug performance, but a win is a win.

Should of won in 2.

Seemed Mathieu injured his right wrist playing passing-shot on match point :o I'm curious whether it affects his next match against Dr. Ivo.

The outcome will probably be the same regardless. :tape:

But I hope he is alright. As for Zverev...what was he thinking? :o

mathieu made a decent attempt to choke this one. got broken in the third when up a double break at 4-1 then at 4-3 tried to get broken again by double faulting twice to get to 30 all. zverev was too much a mug to take advantage though
