yessss! Sorry I actually like JMDP but that hang dog way he has of playing is getting on my nerves, plus at 20 he shouldn't be running out of steam!

He played two weeks +35 heat.

Man, he has played 9 matches in 2 weeks, 6 of them in 3 sets; I think it's enough for him and he thouroghly deserves a break.

Benneteau now gets a bye in the first round and plays the winner of Lopez/Melzer. Talk about lucky loser.

A wise decision indeed. He really is maturing. He learnt from last year that playing too much tennis is bad for you.

Wise decision. Hopefully he'll be fully fresh for the USO. :)

I love how Delpo's learning process is so obviously there.
Good decision.
Next year forget Washington and get your Washington point by playing Cincy.

I wish he just played a couple of matches and tank it just to keep the momentum going but knowing he's a very hungry player that he is going to give it all and give up us open chances. All in all a good decision

I agree, but also ATP should do some changes in the schedule as there are more mandatory or semi mandatory events due to the obligation to play 4 500 and 1 after us open.

Why 1 500, and 2 master series in a row... is there any other place to move any of these tournaments? for example to the week of 9/21 or 9/28?...

If Murray and Roddick don't tank Cinci, they will be in huge trouble when it's time for the USO.

Roddick should withdraw but he knows that he has chance against Federer even if hes tired so no problem.

Del Potro has an amazing sense of scheduling.

Constantly impressed by this guy's growing maturity at age 20.

Thirding it. Not sure that Roddick will be screwed up for USO though, I believe heat/fitness isn't a problem for him.

I thought it was hot in Argentina. I mean fat Dave and Canas never seem to struggle in the heat, they actually thrive in it. Anyways this news is Tragic. Tragic!

Delpo yesterday on press conference:

Q. Are you sure you will play Cincinnati?
JUAN MARTIN DEL POTRO: Yes. I fly tomorrow to Cincy, and maybe I will see there what can I do. But I have two days to recover. We play Wednesday. So if I feel good, I will play.

Yes, it is hot in Argentina, but during Summer. It's Winter right now. JMDP said it was a bit hard for him to adjust to the heat in such a short time.

yes, I know is winter in south america, but what I mean is that he's accustomed with high temperatures, like all the people from south america.

Noooo.

He should've played.

This shows you have evil sentiments on THE PERSON.

You may not like his game or his decisions on a court. But this shows you rather wish him to take bad decisions, to get injured, etc.

You are not a good person.

In a slam you play 7 best of 5 matches in 2 weeks. That's a minimum of 21 sets and i'd like to remind you that Del pony has just played 24 sets in a fortnight, which he could have to do if he's gonna go all the way in New York..

he was training in argentina before washington. He had a rad change of temperature.

And temperature in argentina dont get much higher than 36ºC.
39 at Montreal was like holy shit!

Smart decision by Del Potro. :yeah:

But it really sucks for the 3.5% of the Draw Challenge players who now have Benneteau winning the tournament.

great news, Juan Martin is showing that he's not only a great player but also a sensible person and knows when to stop if his body isn't responding the way it should :yeah:

Rafa definitely should follow his example in this case ;)

the big man deserves a rest

what a monster of a player he has become, will win the US Open imo if he's fit and healthy enough for the 2 weeks

I'm wondering about his endurance. I want to see how he does going four or five sets. He's young, so it's not something to really worry about this year. If his stamina isn't what it should be, he can fix that.

It's amazing to me how big tennis players are getting. When I started watching tennis 5'10 or 11" was touted as being the perfect height for tennis. Now, someone 6'1 or 2" is getting to be on the smaller side.

He looked like he wanted to quit the other day against Murray, but he kept going even though he was obviously struggling. Probably better to take a break and learn from the mistakes of others like Nadal.

In hot humid weather on hard courts. He certainly does deserve a break! I think that Montreal was Murray's first USO series tournament. Wise decision by Juan Martin.
