What if Tennis was like Golf?

In that anyone can win a major if they catch fire for a while. Like in the PGA today YE Yang won the PGA Championships. He is ranked 110.

Would you be of a fan ir less of a tennis fan if tennis was like this. Where domination would be very hard and there are a lot of one time winners, but nearly anyone can win?

What if players like Kevin Kim, Kunitsyn, Navarro could all have a realistic shot at winning a slam?

The last time a non top 10 won a slam was 2004 French Open.

That is the nature of golf.

Tennis can't be like golf.

But golf can be like tennis. Usually the top players win the matchplay events.

You mean be a 59 yr old Tom Watson and be an 8 ft putt for par from winning the British Open ? Because golf is an aquired skill GAME that even an old man can win at ? NO, I'll take tennis, an athletic SPORT, where something like that could never happen.

what if masturbation was like sex.

Humans would have died out long ago and there would be no talk of tennis or weak eras.

I would argue that tennis is as "like that" as it can possibly be in relation to golf, given that tennis requires an absurd amount more athletic skill than golf. Golf requires skill, but its volatility is due to the fact that, like poker, it's subject to streakiness much more than a tennis major, etc.

What if people knew how to employ the subjunctive mood?

 you should have been an English teacher :p

I remember this one from school, you have to say "if I were" not "if I was" if you are being wishful.

and obviously this is the only part of the thread that caught my interest.

Actually it's called the subjunctive mood.

If English speakers learnt other languages, they'd use it more frequently and more precisely. ;)

If tennis was like golf, players could be fat, smoke cigarettes during changeovers and still have a chance at winning a title. Guys like Nadal, Murray and Federer could feasibly miss the cut at tournaments and shithouse players like Gulbis could actually be in with a chance because it would be a more even playing field.

there are some sports that do not require physical strength like curling which is probably why they don't get a lot of "shallow" fans.

Just blame it on technology.

Technology has made golf closer for all the pros.

Bring back the wooden heads, blades and balata balls, only the best will win.
