Nice one from Clownga. Fails to convert 3 BPs early in the 1st set, then gets broken straight back to lose the set when he had recovered the break. In the 2nd set wastes 2 more BPs and that was it.

Mugray served like shit (only 42% first serves in), still this fucking French tool was pathetic on 2nd serve returns. What a brainless player.

Looks like the King of 3 sets will win another Masters MM.

The quality of the Murray return of the Tsonga serve proved decisive in this match.

A Roddick win tonight would give us a repeat of the Wimbledon semi-final.

Good match, great first set from both. Tsonga sucked in some big moments though, 4-4 0-30, four crappy points, then two dumb dropshots in the tie break.

Murray was on fire first set but outplayed in the 2nd, just did enough.

Tsonga is such a fucking idiot! 2 terrible drop shots on set points, wtf was he thinking? Amazing to save the 1st match point but im so fucking mad at him right now for being pathetic on those 2 sps. What a waste of a match, a horrible game from him serving at *4-5 in the first too, not to mention going 0-30 up at 4-4 and then blasting 4 terrible shots out and into the net. Even worse that it was the most annoying player he lost to as well.

Happy and unhappy about this. Happy that Murray is now #2 in the world and Nadal isn't, unhappy that Murray won a match, the way he plays is so amateurish - he has no instinct, no natural talent or feel for the ball, no creativity, he just pushes the ball well with some thought behind it.

Still, it makes Murray look the bigger joke, he is #2 in the world without a Grand Slam, while Nadal is #3 with 6 Grand Slams, Djokovic is #4 with 1 Grand Slam and Roddick is #5 with 1 Grand Slam. Murray = 0 .

Not a fan of Simon at all but I know he will make another QF appearance in a Grand Slam, such is untalented and weak the current era, that players like Nadal, Murray and of course, Simon, will reach QF, SF, F and will win GS's, Simon not as talented as the first two, but he will reach another QF.

good for murray to win without a serve.

tsonga needs to take a leaf out of blake's book when returning with his backhand. he stands too far behind the baseline and ends up way out of position when chasing wide serves to that side. if he stepped into the court a bit further he could cut off the angle and hit more effective bh returns.

as has been said, some poor shot selection at crucial times cost him a chance at a third set. he hit a superb yorker return on one of them in fairness. murray did brilliantly to block it back so deep. tsonga then hit another big forehand before opting for the drop shot to finish, which never even looked like getting over the net.

maybe a case of poor execution more than anything else because the dropper is a good play against murray. strange to bring it at such crucial times but that's what murray does to attacking players. he gets inside their head and makes them think they have to do something extra special to win the point, which is usually true.

You just can't win a GS playing that way.

You say that like he plays every single match the same. Not much you can do when your opponent is going for a winner off of every ball, no matter where he is. Murray employed the right tactics. Tsonga just does not know how to balance attack and defence.

He won't play the same match tomorrow, since he won't have an opponent who is swinging wildly. Jo needs to fucking engage his brain once in a while. He goes for so many low percentage shots. Murray won the match without a first serve. Hell, he hasn't dropped a set yet and he hasn't had the benefit of his first serve for most of the tournament. Tsonga needed to take better advantage.

Very flaky-shaky affair this match was.
You just have to love Tsonga's guts - or might say the guy was indeed crazy on quite some of his shot choices. When his game works, it's awesome - when it doesn't, well ho-hummm....

Murray didn't even come close to his best level. Lacklustre, just waiting for his opponent's mistakes, which came in abundancy, so 'never mind'. His serve didn't seem to be working either. Whatever, he got the job done, and that's all that matters.

Congrats, Muzza - on your victory and on getting the #2 ATP ranking position. :hatoff:

Tsonga hit horrible shots on set points, that drop shot :tape: and he hit a pretty wide fh return in his first one.

Good effort Andy to get this in straight sets and finally avenge that Aussie Open loss last year.

Tsonga's shot selection can be much better.

very true - he does get rushes of blood to the head at crucial moments and they can cost him a lot.

yes, Jo goes for flashy shots in points that he should play as safely as possible

Well I don't think he should play that safely, but some of these flashy shots almost land in the crowd...he's fun to watch but it's rather frustrating to see him go for a inside-out FH winner that misses about 10 feet long

that's true, I wouldn't like him if he played safely the whole time, but there are points where you should think where to put and how, not going for downright winners all the time
