Djokovic is probaly the worst player to ever win a slam in tennis history. Take your fluke slam and fuck off please. What an asshole losing to Roddick. Wow this is pathetic. Tennis is so lame these days Roddick is beating everyone and he seriously sucks balls.

Playing like this Djokovic will probably lose his position to Roddick and Del Potro.

Good win for the duck, but I doubt he will make it to the final.

Better performance by Roddick. He took some more chances today and they paid off. Should be a good test for whoever he faces next round.

Not too bad from Djokovic but he crumbled in the tiebreak and was too tentative throughout the match. Roddick's consistent play wore him down. Maybe someday he'll get his old confidence back.

Scary good stuff from Roddick, he was so confident he will beat Djokovic right from the start till the end. Although Novak made quite a few errors in crucial times, generally he played solid, Roddick forced him to win every point with aggressive construction. Unfortunately for him, he is not in AO2008 form in terms of consistency so this outcome was inevitable.

Can't believe Djoko encouraged Roddick to challenge that call on 1-3* in the 2nd set. If he hadn't, he'd be up 4-1. That rare display of sportsmanship cost him the game (and possibly the set).

Having said that, a fully deserved win for Roddick, who was by far the better player out there.

Happy for Andy, it's a great win for him, but I feel for Novak. He's definitely lost his mojo.

For the first few games he looked to have that fire back in his eyes but it was only temporary, he got tense by Andy's quirky(!) play. That sporting act Novak did early in the second set cost him the break, then the set, then the match. The british commentators I was listening to went on about it, saying it was too nice a gesture, he needs to be more ruthless.

Why does it always seem Djokovic is happy to lose so he can show how well he takes losing. You can see after the tiebreak how he runs upbeat to the net to congratulate Roddick, pathetic. This is a lesson in allowing people's criticism to change who you are.
This is a good point. The USO outburst fucked up Novak and he's been losing to Andy ever since. Then he suffered several bad losses to Rafa on clay this year and that was enough to snuff out what little confidence he had left.

I really miss the chest-thumping Novak. He looks lost out there, like he doesn't know what kind of tennis player he wants to be anymore. He cares too much what others think about him.

Yes, in fact he´s never really played at his true level in the whole year barrying the clay court season up to Madrid, but what he showed there was sth very close to his best stuff and since that defeat he hasn´t come remotely close to that, so I believe that loss has still some thing to do with that lack of confidence, you could see from his body language he was going to lose that tiebreaker for sure

I expected similar scoreline for Djokovic. I don't know what happened to D'Joke, at one moment last year, his tie-break record was stunning, actually since Queens Club final against Nadal, D'Joke has been struggling with tie-breaks. Today he served 2 double faults in the tie-break although he didn't even try to serve risky 2nd serve  Maybe he's under pressure of accusations of ball bouncing before the serve, maybe he limited the number of bounces and can't find the proper concentration?

Expected. Roddick has been on a hot streak since Wimbledon (the only 2 loses he has had have been semi-chokes on his part) and Djokovic has been lost all season long save for some clay court events in the second quarter of this year. It's really sad to see somebody who is so able groundstroke wise to simply lose the plot.

This tournament has been extremely entertaining save some boring one-sided affairs and it's always nice when the usual suspects are not around in the semis. Some inspired play out there today and I hope to see a Roddick/Tsonga finals.:worship:

I didn't see the match. What was this sporting gesture everyone is talking about?

Djokovic was at game point and about to consolidate his break to go up 4-1. An out call was made on one of Roddick's shots that landed on Novak's side of the court. Novak looked at the mark and gestured to Roddick with his racquet that it was close enough to challenge. Roddick challenged, won the challenge....and broke back.

Its clear now that Djokovic is, rankings aside, the sixth best player in the world. Andy...full credit to the man. Has there EVER been a player, so deep into his career, who has improved THIS much in the span of less than 12 months?

Speaking of changes, the biggest difference I see between Novak now and last year? His less than stellar play on the biggest points. In tiebreaks, down break point...the man almost ALWAYS got his first serve in and played an incredible point. Now? Double faults and weak play.

The real question now is: were the prior successes of Djokovic simply a very good player on a tremendous hot streak or is this simply a prolonged slump of a future hall of famer?

Congrats to Roddick - can't say I'm surprised by this, I haven't been convinced by Djokovic since Madrid, though I don't expect him to play like he's blown a fuse forever.

Roddick has rediscovered some confidence and moves better than he used to but his game is pretty much the same as it always was and he's still beatable.

Congrats to Roddick for working hard to improve. His movement and defense are better. I also think his backhand and touch are better, too. I think it's great he's worked so hard to improve instead of just adding to his millions by dialing it in. I don't understand why people trash him so much, but then again I'm always shocked by the vitriol leveled against Nadal on the website, too.

It's great to see Roddick working hard and improving, and having some decent results. There are a lot of players who are more talented, graceful and skilled than he who have accomplished virtually nothing, and yet no hate gets spewed towards them despite their extremely disappointing careers.

Great post, I totally agree. I often wonder - if someone like Marat had half the heart/work ethic of Roddick, he'd have 10 slams by now. How people can hate on someone who puts so much blood, sweat, and tears into what they do is beyond me.

I can't recall a match where he played better this year, maybe in Madrid SF against Nadal but that was clay, didn't see him play this well on hard courts this year, so yes he didn't play TOO bad, it was alot about Roddick yesterday and he takes all credit for this win once again.

Why does it always seem Djokovic is happy to lose so he can show how well he takes losing. You can see after the tiebreak how he runs upbeat to the net to congratulate Roddick, pathetic. This is a lesson in allowing people's criticism to change who you are.

I agree. I honestly believe Djokovic's game has suffered because he has allowed himself to get distracted by things like the press, his image, his popularity. He needs to refocus on tennis, and then maybe he'll regain the confidence in his swing.

Because Djokovic has a clear flaw, and it is his forehand. He cannot put away a sitter on the forehand side to save his life. There is a tentative quality to his swing and a laziness to his footwork. Djok does need Todd Martin right now to remind him how to swing big and move forward in the court.

This match was in Djok's hands but he let it slip away. Now he is Roddick's bitch, and after watching them play against each other in Canada 2007, I never thought that would be the case.

Best post on the matter I've seen for ages. 100% dead on.

Yes, I remember the Roddick/Djokovic QF at the Australian and after a full set of sucking on his forehand and hitting too many errors, Djokovic came up with several beautiful and stunning forehand winners to save the set and take it 7-6. After that point I fell asleep thinking Djok had it in the big simply because he was an incredible big point player. He still had a big of that swagger. Well I woke up to see Roddick had worn him down in the oppressive heat and Djokovic hasn't taken a set off Andy since that one in Oz, and all but one of the sets have been decisively won by Andy by one or two breaks... only one tiebreak! It's amazing.

He's also gotten bitch-slapped three times in a row by Murray, a guy who he used to be 0 and 1. So the Roddick losses + the Murray losses + the Nadal losses on clay (especially Madrid) = wounded Nole.
