Who was the better player: Rod Laver 1967 or Rod Laver 1969?

People forget that Rod won a grand slam in pro tennis in 1967 as well. Yes two slams were in England but just like the amateurs, 3 glass and a clay.

I think it's rather two on grass (Forest Hills & Wimbledon) and two on indoor wood (Wembley & Coubertin).

To answer the question I think Laver may have been at his best in 1967 but as it has already been argued here I think we can compare the Major Pros from before 1968 with the current Grand Slam tournaments and his slam from 1969 is a greater achievement than his pro slam from 1967 and certainly greater than his amateur slam from 1962.

Laver's best achievement was 1969 but who was the better player? My real question if I wanted someone to beat Roger Federer which Laver would I pick?

Wasn't the French Pro part of the slam?

It was but from 1964 on the French Pro was held in the Stade Pierre de Coubertin on indoor wood. Between 1930 and 1963 it was held in Roland Garros (thus on clay) but once in 1953. ;)

As I said I think Laver was at his best in 1967 but I can't really say. I've not read history books about tennis. Others can tell you better than me.

Either, or Rosewall from 1960-1964.

Rosewall was World n°1 between 1961 and 1963 under Pancho Gonzales' shadow as the latter was still felt as the best but retired of three years.
