Malisse and Goffin are obvious WC choices. Other than that, it will be hard to decide between Desein and Bemelmans (and maybe even Mertens, though I'd say the other two deserve it more) and some potential high-profile non-Belgian players.

Well, I actually didn't now how to spell when I was going to write it (I know the Portuguese word, Valônia) and made a quick google search and first result was wikipedia with the term Wallonia.

No, in the first part of the season I realised Belememans played very well in indoor tournaments.
In fact, I thought he would be one of best incoming players this year, but his results in the second part
of the year have been poor in my opinion, specially in hard surface.

Playing at home and returning to indoor, i hope he could increase his tennis level again and to go up in the ATP ranking.

So, simply I would like to know your opinion about Bemelmans and if he has chances to defeat Gabashvili.

I really like Ruben and want him to do well. Indoors is also his best surface, so if he plays to his ability, he can definitely win. But I think it's a bridge too far given his recent form. Gabashvili isn't a clown on the surface either.

I really like Ruben and want him to do well. Indoors is also his best surface, so if he plays to his ability, he can definitely win. But I think it's a bridge too far given his recent form. Gabashvili isn't a clown on the surface either.
Agree, but I'm hoping playing in front of his homecrowd will give him a boost and he will be able to pull it of...

i saw korolev play an astonishing tennis in Asia, with Ginepri totally stunned (6-1 6-1) and in form Simon in great trouble(6-4)
But Gilles knew the way to put problems in koro's game: change the rhythm and the spin on the ball, first defend and then attack at the right moment...koro freaked out in the topic moments and lost the match
if he improves a little the mental and tactical aspect he can go right in top 10

Great match from Malisse!! Saw some amazing spectacular tennis. :worship: It was only finished just after midnight.
As usual he was whining to himself after almost every error, but it actually got some kind of funny. The crowd also really pulled him through in that third set. :worship:

Bemelmans made too many mistakes... His serve was ok, but one sloppy game in the second set and it was over. Gabashvili was choking when he had to serve it out (or at least it looked like it  ) Bemelmans got one break back then, but it was too late and Gabashvili served it out the second time.
I wonder, is Gabashvili always that cranky? Whining about almost every call...

I also saw Darcis against Vandenbulcke. Not a great match, lots of mistakes from both players... Darcis really has to pull up his game if he wants to survive some more rounds...

Hrbaty totally gave it away in the third set against Stakhovsky. He was up a break but immediately got broken back because of really sloppy errors... :(

Right... had a wonderful day. Hope I can go back on Thursday for the second rouds. :)

I also saw David Goffin playing doubles with Christophe Rochus. He's supposed to be the 'next big thing' in Belgium. :D He not bad, but I can't really see anything special about him (doubles is of course not the same than a singles match). His serve is really a weapon on the faster surface, but he really needs some work on his footwork. His volleys are also really crappy. Maybe he should play some more doubles to improve that. ;) He's only 18, let's see what happens with him in the next 2-3 years. ;)

If he retired while winning 6-4 2-1 it must be a serious injury.
It was serious, we walked onto the court and almost immediately saw Bohli falling down. He also stayed on the ground without trying to get up first. Looked like he twisted his ankle really badly. Someone rushed over to him and first treated him while lying there, after that the man helped him to his chair. It felt like he had a time out for a long time and then walked to the umpire to retire. He couldn't really stand on it anymore. :awww:

As patriotic as I am, I of course would love to see Darcis or Malisse win the title.

Yesterday during the Malisse-Gabashvili match there was a dragonfly on the court, right at the place where Gaba wanted to stand to serve. He ordered the ballkid to get one of the boxes where the balls are in to put the dragonfly in. So he did and gave the box to one of the guys of the security. Malisse was so annoyed by it (it also took quite some time) and screamed something like: 'just crush it with your foot'

What a gentle guy, he deserves the Nobel Peace Prize :hearts:

Malisse is also one of my favourite players, what a character! Anyway you guys always have a fantastic line-up, I might consider going there one year, especially we have cheap airlines Wrocław - Brussells. How does it look with the accomodation?

Deborah
10-09-2009, 01:30 PM
Not sure about that Nobel Peace Price

Malisse is indeed quite a character... especially when you understand all the things he says to himself on court. He can be such an 'asshole' though too on court. Quite strange because off court he's such a great and even a shy guy. Always really friendly too. :)

Oh yes, travelling in Europe is most of the time quite cheap with all those low cost companies. :)
Don't really know about accomodation. I know the players stay at a Best Western near Mons, but it's about a 15-minutes drive and I'm not sure about the public transport to it. The citycentre and station are really close to the venue (about 2-3 km and there's free shuttle from and to the station) so I'm sure you should be able to find some nice hotels or B&B's. ;)

Congrats to Janko... For some reason I don't like him though. :o

There was a crazy moment during the Malisse-Tipsarevic match. Malisse was serving at 5-6 to stay in the set. Tipsarevic got on advantage and so had a setpoint. Malisse hit a huge serve which Tipsy just got back and Malisse finised it with a great crosscourt forehand winner on the line. Of course the crowd goes crazy after a huge fistpump from Malisse. X-Man walks towards the ballkid at the back of the court and gets ready to serve again. And then suddenly... the lineswomen decides to still call that crosscourt ball out. So, game and set Tipsarevic. So unfair and the umpire just does nothing. The crowd starts booing of course and I thought Malisse was going to explode. He screamd so loud  Anyways, the set went to Tipsarevic 7-5, but Malisse refused to play on with that lineswoman and he got what he wanted. Another men took her place  I actually didn't know a player could do that.
During the second set there were a lot of close balls (a couple of them were really out  ), but it looked like none of the linesmen dared to call it out. :o

Besides that incident it was a great match with some spectacular rallies. :worship: Really a pity that first set had to end like that, Malisse really deserved a tiebreak.

Hope Malisse can get some points in the last tournaments of the year so he again is in the top 100 and has a spot in the main draw of the Australian Open. :)
