GStaad R1: Kiefer d. Acasuso 76(5) 62

Yet another Gstaad match where neither could land a first serve. You could see Acasuso's clay heritage at work though, he wasn't overly bothered and did OK with the kick 2nd serves. Kiefer struggled and made 6dfs - 9 aces though, and 94% points won on first serve (big first serves at the altitude here are basically unanswerable).

Good result for Kiwi though, he does badly need points now (dropped Canada points, and lost almost 100 ranking spots). Fortunately got lots of little countables with 20pts to replace, but he really needs to make the final here to make much of a dent (150pts, would take him back to 95ish rank)

Navarro next, which could be a good one to watch - as Feli Lopez showed a couple of years ago, it's very possible to successfully serve/volley at Gstaad.

Navarro and good to watch = does not compute.

Welllll, he can suck sometimes, but when he's on he's got excellent variety in his game. Gstaad really should suit him down to the ground.

Edit: hrrrm, just saw Navarro dropped a set to Dustov today - oops. That's not good, Dustov really is a bit of a donkey (think Daniel Brands, but heavier and with even less finesse).

Acasuso is really struggling for wins at the moment, anyway good win for Kiefer who has been in decent form

Nice win Kiwi! Acasuso is in bad shape last months.
