Muggiest title match of the year? ever?

Count Chocula should not lose to Chardy.

I never thought at the beginning of the year that Jeremy would get his first ATP title this year and be on the verge of Top30 , that's fantastic for him. :bigclap:

It's great to see a player's results start catching up with his potential, I hope he keeps this up and becomes more noticeable to the general public, he's one of the very few young players that I look forward to seeing in the future and he definitely deserves all the exposure he can get.
Hopefully this time next year Top20.

(Now if only he would grow his hair back. :p)

Chardy to replace Gulbis as the new hope for the future?

I think many could see the similarities in the (attempts at)hype, but, one - after Gulbis' massive bandwagon, and the failure of it, I think everyone is a little more careful about hailing "the next best thing", and two - Jeremy is a little more hardworking then Gulbis and also a little more down to earth, hopefully that will help him in the long run.

Hehe, yeah. He did exactly the same thing against Vassalo - it's as if all confidence derives from his serve, and without it had nothing else, no belief he could break back. Strange really - yes, his returns are poor, but it's medium/slow speed clay and there's still a hope. The instant the 2nd set started first serve % went from mid 40s to high 70s, and he was juiced like the duracell bunny on the returns.

 Good to see Chardy win a title. I'd say he's a true all-surface threat ;) but clay has weirdly been his best surface in 09. He could have better hard court and grass results than he does at the moment.

I don't think it's weird that he's got good results on clay. He has loads of spin on his serve and his forehand, he especially has a very good second serve that he can hit strong or with lots of kick. He likes to run around his forehand and control the point, etc etc...

He was in the final of Johannesburg, losing to Tsonga, but beating Ferrer before that.

Yes! Finally! Im so sad i missed the match but was overjoyed at hearing the news, i hope he can keep going and be a seed for the US Open! :hearts:

And he even has a few haters now, you know that a player is on the right track when he gets them!

What I thought was strange wasn't that he was doing well on clay -- just a little strange that this year he's done so much better on clay than on hard courts (other than the Tsonga final) or grass. He's a Wimbledon junior champ and has a big game suited to hard courts in a lot of ways. Plus when I first saw him on clay at the start of clay season this year he seemed totally at a loss about how to play. He was going through stuff at the time though.

i think chardy has a future better than blake if he can learn an alternate game that doesnt require blasting his way out of trouble when the blasting's not working - cos his forecourt game is better than decent...

that said... he's damn good at what he does... plenty of gunslinger shock value in his holster that can render most opponents as spectators when he's on...

well I think Jeremy can get a whooooooooole lot better at the net but he's gonna have to play doubles in order to improve
he misses a lot of easy volleys especially off the forehand but I guess he's a tall guy and getting down low might be an issue
he can add a slice and more drop shots and his backhand like Tsonga is his weaker shot

he can add another 20 pounds of muscle but Jeremy has game no question:yeah:
