Well done Toad, first Swede to win a claycourt title since his coach Magnus Norman won in Båstad 2000 and his first claycourt title of his career.

Excellent week for Monaco, who enjoyed the nightlife in Båstad and played some good tennis after the disappointment of the DC loss in Ostrava.

How much the tie-break? 7-4.
Well I guess I can´t start a Soda win thread.

Looked almost like an instant reply of his semi yesterday. Good win.

Way to go Robin! :clap2: Great to see him grab the title for the home crowd and he shows he means business.

He tried to give the 2nd set to Pico, but Pico couldn't deliver. :silly:

Soda was dodgy at second set, Monaco had one set point at 5-4* 40-30* but couldn´t take it, in the opportunities points Soda was okay and never let be down a break and this helped him at second set.

Bit shaky at times, but he deserved a title after the last few weeks he's had.

Too solid from Soderling in the first set, no chance for Pico. In the second when a break down Pico started fighting really hard and the Toad started doing some mistakes. Too bad Pico didn't play a good tiebreak, but I'm glad he didn't give up even being outplayed by Soderling.

Excellent week for Pico after the Davis Cup losses, it couldn't come in a better time. He should go to Hamburg with confidence.

Congrats to Soderling on winning at home.

Once again Robin got tight in the 2nd, but Pico raised his level several notches. That double and UE from Pico in the breaker came out of nowhere, but nevertheless, Robin played much better serving at *5-6 and in the breaker than he did at *3-2 and *4-3. A great week for both guys, and fantastic to see how much the win means for Robin. :worship:

Hahaha, the presentation, the guy being happy that on the final day that there was a speech in Swedish by one of the players.

Toad used to go there as a kid and watch the matches, always wanted to do well here and he said it's one of the best events on tour, well it was voted 6 times best IS event of the year.

Real good win for Robin, he got a bit tight in the second but weathered the storm to come out on top in the end. A nice reward for his form of late.

Career title number four and the first one not won on indoor carpet. Robin improves his record in finals to 4-7 and this is the first one he's won in straights. Hell, he didn't drop a set for the whole tournament, saving two setpoints. :D

I'm not as sure as you about that. The main deal with his transformation is how he doesn't have outbursts or gets down on himself nearly as often as before after missing shots or opportunities.

Time will tell. ;)

Of course, what a close match. 2 sets to love. :) Monaco never had a chance.

Expected win by Soderking.

Monaco had a set point and missed the backhand down the line. As for Ostrava, he wasn't just playing for himself, there is the difference.

As George said, Monaco had a SP.

As for Ostrava, it was a disappointment for himself because he had his chances and wanted to help the team.

Toad played well - he was hitting the bejesus out of the ball as usual, but keeping UEs at an acceptable level and above all moving well enough to stay in most rallies. At least on clay, he can now hit with booming pace and good depth even when on the move.

I thought Monaco had the momentum to take it to a 3rd, since the Swedish Chef seemed shaky and Pico was holding serve comfortably, but a DF and then a sloppy FH error in the TB did him in.

I never rated Monaco that highly back when he won those titles; I saw him as a generic, combative but underpowered baseliner with a mediocre BH. Now his BH is somewhat better, and he actually plays something close to a David Ferrer lite game, yet his results aren't as good. Go figure.

When watching these matches, it seems like Soderling hasn't had to sustain a high level of play because of how dangerous he can be from the baseline. He can afford to make a few errors here and there, knowing that he'll probably also string together some great shots at some stage. As long as he doesn't go crazy with the errors. But to his credit, he played a lot of the big points well when he was threatened on his serve as well - that backhand drop volley comes to mind specifically.

Monaco put up a good fight in the second set, and hopefully he can keep up this consistent run of form he's been having lately.
