Tommy will be seeded due some changes in the rankings! He's #8 atm but that could be #6 because I've heard both Stepanek and Monfils will pull out...

Yes it's most reasonably to skip this one. He needs some rest after Halle.

@Lugburz

You might change the thread title (Wimbledon). ;)

Yeah, I'm also cool with it, now that he's in the final. ;) A little sad, though, since I could make some more use of my ES player abo this month. But I think that's not really a decisive factor ... :p

Lugburz
06-13-2009, 03:25 PM
Well I am now completely cool with it now when he reached the final, but otherwise if not,I would be a little sad because there lied good chance not just winning the tour but gaining some important points..But nothing doesn't matter anyway since tomorrow is THE day!!

btw,I've changed it to Wimbledon thread...

Haas would have his Points of 1405 increased up to a Wimbledon Points
of 2,030 if he was considered for a seed

This would make him a Top 24 seed if one of the Top 24 pulls out before the event !!!

I see it coming ... no further withdrawal, Tommy not seeded, and a first round against Roger. Would fit in nicely with the drama that is the career of Thomas Mario Haas. :p

That would suck. After his success in Paris ... I would hate to see Roger drop out of Wimby in the first round. ;)

So close. :(

I have found something on GM about the seeds.

"If a top 16 seed pulls out after draw is made and before OOP is issued for Day 1
the Number 17 replaces him in the draw, number 33 replaces 17 and LL replaces
the gap where 33 was

If a top 32 seed pulls out after draw is made and before OOP is issued for Day 1
Number 33 replaces him and LL replaces the gap where 33 was

ONCE OOP is Issued
LL replaces the seed who withdrew even if it is Nadal"

So we have to prey someone pulls out before first OOP gets released :angel:

I like this draw. Nicely progessive. Easy first round, more interesting second (I'm also seeing Llodra there), a possibly challenging third round to reach the primary goal, which should be to reach the second week. And then the expected Top Ten barrier that is to be overcome in order to go even deeper into the tournament. And I would like to see DelPo there, of all the Top Ten players ... but I'm not sure if he'll get there. His past performances on grass have been ok, if not so much in Wimbledon. Then again, he hasn't played a match on grass yet since he's risen to one of the top players, so this will be interesting to follow ...

I'm curious to see in what kind of mental state Tommy will present himself. Will he now be even more confident, completely calm and without pressure, and play his best Wimby ever (continuing the trend)? Or will the slower surface take away from his momentum?
Can't wait to see what will happen. ;)

Don't get the system behind these rearrangements, but hell, I take it. Blake is even better ...

I'm not sure about Del Potro moving... Someone said it somewhere in this forum but i can't find it back... This is in the Gland Slam book 2006

- If the withdrawal is among seeds 1 to 16, the 17th seed is moved into then open position, and the 17th position shall be filled by the next highest ranked player eligible to be seeded;
- If the withdrawal is among seeds 17 to 32 it shall be filled by the next highest ranked player eligible to be seeded.

The position vacated by that next highest ranked player shall then be filled by the next player on the original entry list if prior to the commencement of qualifying or by the eligible Lucky Loser if after the commencement of qualifying. Any vacancy created by the withdrawal of a seed which occurs after the release of the Order of Play for the first day of the Main Draw shall be filled by eligible Lucky Losers.

So maybe only blake moves.. i'm not sure anymore

From Wimbledon website:

Nadal's absence will cause a reshuffle in the men’s singles draw. Nadal's place will be taken by fifth seed Juan Martin Del Potro. Del Potro's place will be taken by the 17th seed James Blake. Blake's place will be taken by Jose Arguso of Argentina and a lucky loser will fill Arguso's spot.

Nick Bollettieri’s Wimbledon Guide
4 Men to watch

Roger Federer

Full of confidence, he’s regained the respect of the tour after winning the French Open to equal Sampras’s 14 Grand Slams. You have to make the best player who ever lived the favourite. Gentleman genius.

Andy Murray

He’s fit, he’s ready, he’s serving big and I don’t just mean winning titles regularly to fulfil British expectations. The street fighter is a clear and present danger to the two main men.

Tommy Haas

In my view, Federer’s toughest match in Paris was not Juan Martin del Potro but against Tommy, who led by two sets. Haas won in Halle, has been playing well and can be a spoiler if not victor.

Philipp Kohlschreiber

He’s not going to win the title but this 25-year-old German, No 33 in the world, is capable of winning a few matches and knocking over some significant names along the way.

Holy crap. After Halle I said Tommy's back. Well, I guess matches like this come with the package. I haven't seen Tommy so unsettled and angry in a long time. Verbal abuse, man. And he didn't have much focus to begin with, but every kind of match plan is now gone.

He needs a coach.

After the 2nd set I was sure he had finally found his game, but the 3rd proved me otherwise. So glad he managed that rebreak before play was suspended, though. Here's hoping that he will get his sh*t together till tomorrow and take this one in four.

But indeed, Peya played pretty good. If Tommy can put pressure on him from the baseline, his game pretty much crumbles, but that didn't really work today most of the time.

well, he just HAS to get his head straight, then this shouldn't be a problem. But that's easy to say ...

Glad I could watch it on German Pay TV. :p{

Same here. Wimbledon obviously being the main reason why I subscribed with the hope that they'll buy more/new tennis rights in the future. They have better/more coverage, no commercial breaks and the better commentators (Stach and Faßnacht from Eurosport and more). Stach as commentator of the Haas matches is the perfect choice. I am sure every german fan still remembers Stach's reaction after Haas' two lobs against Blake at the US Open. :D
According to Premiere they also have "free access to all show courts", whatever that means, since DSF showed the Schuettler match. So it's still not clear if that's true or not.

Though it unfortunately didn't make the match better. :o But I'm confident now that he'll win it in four tomorrow and then we can just forget about it.

Must be some Grand Slam rule  it was the same at the French Open.

I don't know exactly but that's my guess:
Of course, this is the official rule. I think they can't put Tommy's match as the 1st one because it would be too difficult to inform the players who have to play the first match after the schedule at 9.30 p.m.. Furthermore, they have to give Tommy and Peya enough rest. If you finish a match at 9.30. p.m., you'll have to drive to your hotel/appartment, you'll get treatment and you'll have to eat. So it is very late when you finally go to bed.
Those are the reasons why this is the official rule I guess...

Yeah, that was great with the kids, Tommy's the man. Meltzer did something similar in Halle, though, so he might have remembered that. ;) But at least he gave three different kids a chance to hit some on the big court ...

Well, I can't really say that I'm happy right now. Sorry for Llodra, tough luck to crash into the chair like that. I would have preferred watching a good match, was looking forward to it the whole day. And Tommy could have used some more match time on these courts.
Anyway, last year's result already equaled (although not all the points defended, but who cares right now), now obviously may come the first true test - and I'm not sure if I'd prefer Querrey or Cilic. Sure, Cilic is pretty high right now in the ranking, but to be honest, I think his two tournament wins were jokes, considering the mediocre competition in those weeks.
But still, that next one certainly won't be handed to Tommy easily, so I hope he sets up an extra, hard training session tonight. ;)

Hey sundog!! What's the timedifference for you?? What time does Wimby start? Just curious :p

AUF GEHT'SSSSS

Und ich spreche auch ein biBchen Deutsch ;)Wimby is 9 hours ahead, so the matches that start at noon there start at 3am here.
That's why I miss all you guys on here because by the time I log on after work you're all asleep!!

Saw an interview with Tommy on ESPN. Chris Fowler brought up the fact that he's had bad luck at Wimby during odd years and 09 is an odd year and he asked Tommy if he's superstitious. Tommy says no, but now that you brought it up.... It was really funny.

How cute of Tommy to hit with the ball kids. They must've been thrilled! Awww, what a guy!

I may have an analog recording (like the early rounds in Halle), but the channel cut it short a little bit, so the last part where he hit some with that bigger girl is missing, yet a large part is there, so better than nothing ...

Cilic didn't really impress against Querrey, so Tommy can do him. However, after seeing more and more success of clay tennis on the grass of Wimbledon I start to not really give a damn anymore about that tournament ...

Cool. Always tough to find the matches, but stuff like this pops up everywhere in no time ... :p

But deservedly so I guess, really a special moment of this tournament. The best actually was when he hit some balls with that last ballgirl, who obviously knew how to play tennis, and someone shouted encouragingly: "Come on, Tommy!"
Brilliant. ;)

And you can see Tommy actually enjoys it, not to please the spectators, but also himself :D

Nope, that's history. Next would be either Seppi or Avdreev. Delpo was moved to Nadal's spot in the draw, remember?

Yes it may rain today. But weather looking good so far. 1st match on court 1 is already finished. So there's still hope for Tommy action later on.

I don't know ... no matter how this game will end, but I get the impression that Tommy hasn't really gotten used to the courts in Wimby yet, and maybe won't at all. He has often trouble to put pressure on the ball, maybe has timing issues. And I can't completely blame him.
I heard yesterday somewhere that the blades of grass these days are twice as long as they were in the early days of the tournament. And look at those slices ... Tommy plays those really well, but they almost jump the opponent into the face.

And while I'm writing these words, Tommy shows us that it's still possible to play serve & volley. Typical. ;)
YES! Now just one more!
Where is the first serve though? Nope, still not the Tommy we were all lucky to behold in Halle.

A somewhat cocky start into the set, made Cilic strong again through his own doing. Completely unnecessary, especially after winning the second set like that.

EDIT

Tommy's "beautiful mind" certainly isn't a secret, but I can't remember having ever seeing him losing focus like this from one point to the next. After taking a 2 sets to 0 lead. I don't get it.
