Good serving from Muzza and some lovely passing shots. Fish should donate that forehand of his because it is embarassing :o.

He has to worry about Fed and Nadal, whereas Djokovic has to worry about them two, Murray, Safin, Kohlschreiber, Tsonga, Gonzalez, Baghdatis, Roddick....

Murray is exactly why I wouldn't wish anything bad to happen to Nadal. So Nadal can keep beating his butt at Wimbledon!! I hate Murray for his antics. This guy would be a disgrace if he wins a Grand Slam. Though he won't win more than one. I can guarantee it

Masterful serving by Murray and solid overall. Very few unforced errors and some spectacular winners.

Fish matched him almost ace for ace in the first set, but couldn't keep it up.

Next match against Ferrero will be interesting.

Haha, now you're just naming ALL the players that have beaten Novak LOL...Kohlschreiber beat him once and he has to worry about him? Safin beat him once and he has to worry? Baghdatis? I can do the same to Murray, Fed and Nadal

So, according to you Fed has to worry about, hmmm, let's see Murray, Nadal, Djokovic, Fish, Roddick, Nalbandian, Karlovic, Canas, Gonzalez, Simon etc etc

Nadal's/Murray's list is even longer.

never in doubt. Fish is just not in the same class with the top guns.

Ferrero vs Murray is an interesting encounter. Murray will have to step it up and force the issue against the mosquito.

mosquito is finding grass relatively comfortable for now.

Good performance from Muzza. Dealt with the Fish big serve well from middle of the first set, served extremely well himself. Looking good going into the weekend.

Yea that was a good win, i expect his next round to be a bit easier, in terms of the amount of times he can break Ferrero's serve. Today was all about getting through and he did it with plenty to spare :)

If Murray is winning matches left and right, it can't be that fast.

A guy with Fish's serve should win always at least a set against Murray on those courts.

Murray won 30/31 on his first serve.Fish's returns were lousy, but how that leads to a conclusion of slow courts I don't get.

Murray has a clear preference for fast conditions,as his serve can cover up for his relatively weak 1st groundstroke.

That match vs. Ferrero will be nice to see.

I think Murray will win that in 3, but it would be nice to see good ole' Ferrero get a shot at a grass title.

But on the flip side if a victory here gives Murray a confidence boost for Wimbledon, then that would be nice as well.

I think Murray is nearing his first slam, but his performances on grass so far have been so-so.

Minor miracle when a big server is broken this tournament - it's going to end up with less breaks of serve than any atp level event this decade.

guga2120
06-12-2009, 11:12 PM
Since when is Murray a slow court player?

He's not at all, on slower surfaces, he is much more beatable. He's better on fast hard courts and grass b/c he can take the ball so early.

Murray is a better player on fast surfaces.

Like when he beat Roddick and Karlovic in 07 in San Jose on an indoor court that was considered one of the fastest courts of the whole season.

philosophicalarf
06-12-2009, 11:24 PM
Yup - and not a coincidence his first two masters were at Cincinatti, the fastest outdoors hard court on the tour, and Madrid, the fastest of the masters.

Fish had zero chance today. Couldn't get a lookin on the Murray serve, and whenever he didn't land his own first serve he was getting destroyed in the rallies (only won 8/25 points off 2nd serve). Even if he had somehow lucked his way to a tiebreak, he would have had very poor chances in that - Fish's tiebreak choking skills rival Cilic, whereas Murray is probably the best on tour now.

nkp2
06-12-2009, 11:39 PM
Well, according to this, Roddick is the best on tour just now... Although Murray isn't listed, so he probably hasn't player 12 tiebreaks yet this year.

ETA: Murray has played 12 tiebreaks this year, winning 8 of them, which would put him 7th on this list if he were on it.

http://www.tennistalk.com/en/statistics/tiebreak/2009

Murray was 3rd in 2008 with nearly 70% conversion rate for tiebreaks but had played nearly double the two above him of Nalbandian and Darcis....

philosophicalarf

Last calender year afaik these are the top 5:

Murray 25-9 (74%)
Fed 27-10 (73%)
Nadal 25-11 (69%)
Tsonga 25-12 (68%)
Roddick 31-15 (67%)

Potro is 65%, Djoko 54% (oops). Karlovic is 50%. In the disgrace tent are Cilic, Kohly and Soderling at around 40%. In the total-embarrasment-to-tennis tent are Almagro and Seppi with 7-17 (29%) - how is that even possible? :-)

Edit: aha, knew there was one I forgot ..... Feli Lopez is 24-10 (71%), but that's a bit unhelpful because he bombs out early in a lot of tournaments and thus average opponent level is very low.

Murray is the new Thomas Johansson - he does well on fast surfaces because he returns well.

Murray is a better player on fast surfaces.

No, he's a better returner on fast surfaces, not exactly a better player.

Imagine it's 2007. You played Davis Cup for teammate, US hero Blake, then you play in San Jose. Murray benefits from your bad fitness and choke on set point and tank job. Brad Gilbert was the Murray coach, doing his usual screaming and illegal coaching. Fabulous.

He had nothing to back up the serve with. Some really bad volleys from his side, even more uncharacteristic errors from Fish than usual.
