Prediction: Dr Ivo will have a surprising run at Wimby this year.

06-10-2009, 04:07 PM
Ivo Karlovic has always been GS midget, reaching R4 at a Slam only once in his career and never winning a single 5-set match. :o
Lets have a look at all his Wimby perfomances.
2003: qualifies, beats Hewitt and losses to Mirnyi in R3.
2004: beats Srichaphan and Lopez, losses to Fed in R4
2005: losses to Bracialli in R1 in 5 sets
2006: losses to Wawrinka in R1 in 5 sets
2007: losses to Santoro in R1 in 5 sets
2008: losses to Stadler in R1 in 4() sets
Now it`s 5 years since his best run here.
Despite having such a bad record at Wimby, in his grass career Ivo has reached Queens F (2005) and also won Nottingham twice (2007,2008)
You hear it here first: Ivo Karlovic wins his 1st ever 5-setter, upsets some top-10 player and reaches QF!!!

06-10-2009, 04:11 PM
He will shock us all and make it to the 2nd round, beating Falla on the way. :p

06-10-2009, 04:12 PM
A surprising run to the second round. :yeah:

06-10-2009, 04:24 PM
I'm guessing R3. It's all about the matchups

06-10-2009, 04:26 PM
No top player would like to face him in R3.

06-10-2009, 04:32 PM
he will lose in five again... :)

06-10-2009, 05:55 PM
he served 55 aces on CLAY and still lose :rolls:

it all depends on whom he's serving against, but I honestly don't see him upsetting a top player :o

06-10-2009, 06:34 PM
He will serve 72 aces and lose in 5 to Santoro.

06-10-2009, 08:37 PM
His serve is up and running. A suprising run could happen.

He will serve 72 aces and lose in 5 to Santoro.

06-10-2009, 08:44 PM
I reckon he will lose to Tommy Haas, who will go onto have an amazing run and cause a few big upsets.

06-17-2009, 03:30 PM
Who Has the best chance out of the dying breed to go deep?

I thought about this the other day, imagine if nadal drew karlovic and it was raining, the roof was closed and karlovic's game enters impossible to break mode...

Ivo Karlovic

Radek Stepanek

Nicolas Kiefer

Mischa Zverev

Ivan Ljubicic

Michael Llodra

Feli Lopez

Phil Petzschner

Gilles Muller

Mardy Fish

06-17-2009, 03:32 PM
Where is Taylor Dent?

06-17-2009, 03:33 PM
Has he made it through?

06-17-2009, 03:35 PM
More like Wimbledon 2009 - error machines

06-17-2009, 03:36 PM
Where is Taylor Dent?

My question also. Wait for him to qualify before such a poll.

More like Wimbledon 2009 - error machines

06-17-2009, 03:39 PM
Best chance of what? If you mean of winning, where is the "none of them" option?

06-17-2009, 03:43 PM

Ljubo isn't a serve-volleyer, and usually doesn't venture forward unless he is really invited to. Wouldn't attach that label to Kiefer either, although he does like to come forward a fair bit.

Otherwise, it is a good list, and I'd be choosing between Fish, Lopez (always dangerous, in a loose sense), Stepanek (is he fit?) and Karlovic (surely has to end the run of 5 straight R1s) as possibilities to reach the 2nd week.

The others are all useful players who can beat a good name every-so-often...but you wouldn't really expect to see them beyond R3 (maybe with the exception of Llodra).

06-17-2009, 03:47 PM
Why is Ljubo listed as S/V?

06-17-2009, 03:49 PM

06-17-2009, 03:50 PM
Kiefer, Ljubo and Fish are not S and V.

06-17-2009, 03:50 PM
Where is Mahut?

06-17-2009, 03:55 PM
Karlovic is fairly mediocre in tiebreaks - bit of a killer when his chance at breaking on grass is so low. Simply not made for slam events either, he needs to win in straights, if it goes 4 sets he's toast.

Fish is useless. And he's really, really **** in tiebreaks.

Gilles Muller has proven he can do it at the US Open, but he's woeful on grass. His current form is severeal country miles beyond awful too.

Feli Lopez is the only proven quality grasscourter there really.

06-17-2009, 04:06 PM
Ivo, Mardy and Llodra are the most dangerous :D

06-17-2009, 04:20 PM
Kiefer, Ljubo and Fish are not S and V.

Where is Mahut?

Same for me!

06-17-2009, 04:27 PM
great pix, hopefully Dent :worship:

add him plz :(

06-17-2009, 04:27 PM
Kiefer, Ljubo and Fish are not S and V.

Kiefer and Fish S&V on first serve consistently.

06-17-2009, 04:35 PM
Not all the players in the list are S&V, but it's already mentioned by few posters.

Kiefer and Fish S&V on first serve consistently.

Hmm... I wouldn't say that they do it constantly. They do it often, but more for mixing the things up, not as a constant tactic.

EDIT: I'd add Robert Kendrick to the list, and, of course, Mahut, as already mentioned, and Dent, if he manages to qualify.

06-17-2009, 04:53 PM
Guess you only have to S&V once in your career to make this list.

06-17-2009, 05:57 PM
Nadal could make the list. He S&Ved one point in the final last year.

I saw Ferrero S&V once or twice in his career too. :p

06-17-2009, 06:17 PM
Hernandez, Montanes, Davydenko and Devilder are shocking omissions

06-17-2009, 09:49 PM
Does Roddick and Fed count as S&V

06-17-2009, 09:51 PM

06-17-2009, 10:31 PM
be honest, this thread is just an excuse to post those pics, isn't it?

Kiefer, Ljubo and Fish are not S and V.
Fish is serve and volley. He'd do it more too if his serve percentage was higher.

06-18-2009, 12:56 PM
Lopez and Stepanek have the best chance of going deep.
Dent has to play Cuevas to 3rd round qualies so he should beat him, but don't think his form is very good right now.
Ivan Navarro is also a serve volleyer you forgot.
Not sure if Mahut is going to be there.

06-18-2009, 01:23 PM
I need to make a new list dont i?

dent, mahut have to be included

06-18-2009, 01:30 PM

06-18-2009, 02:02 PM
Taylor should be added now :D
Yani and Ram also serve&volley a lot, don`t they?

06-19-2009, 11:46 AM
Ivo starts his Wimby run vs Lacko.
Go Karlo! :worship:

alter ego
06-19-2009, 11:59 AM
I don't see it coming.

06-19-2009, 11:59 AM
His serve is in ridiculous form, but he really needs to win 3-0 in every match, or a short 3-1 at worst. Problem with that is he's not going to break much, and he's very average in tiebreaks. Following the Hewitt example at Roland Garros, opponents will also know even two sets down they have a chance, cos he's going to run out of energy soon.

Horatio Caine
06-19-2009, 12:02 PM
Should win his first two matches, and would obviously have a genuine shot at Tsonga in R3.

06-19-2009, 12:10 PM
This year he didn't play a week before Wimbledon so he's rested and ready. I see him reaching at least 3rd round.

06-19-2009, 12:13 PM
He have to face Dancevic in 2nd round. That's already hard for him.

06-19-2009, 03:10 PM
I pick Karlovic to beat Hewitt in the final!

06-19-2009, 03:14 PM
Based on what?

Sure he's annoying and has stunned a Wimby champion before, but that's a surprise in and of itself.

Na, ain't gonna happen. Maybe Ljubicic will do decent, but I don't think any in that list is going to be a huge threat.

06-19-2009, 03:35 PM
Why is the thread about serve&volley players merged with Dr Ivo's prediction thread? It's not the same topic. C'mon, mods, who merged them?

06-19-2009, 03:43 PM
Mahut to stun Nando in R2 :rocker:

06-22-2009, 07:01 PM
Ivo finally won Wimby R1
6-3 7-6 6-3 with 32 aces :D

06-23-2009, 06:15 AM
Darcis next. Shouldn't be a problem.

06-25-2009, 07:12 AM
Another easy win. 5 more to go!
Next: Tsonga.

06-26-2009, 04:16 PM
4 more to go.

Credit to you Dart Marcus. Whe you first posted this I doubted your prediction because Karlovic hasn't had 3-of-5 stamina.

Today's win was a major one in terms of overcoming that block.

If his match against Verdasco is 1/2 as close as their last one on grass it'll be a big deal.

07-02-2009, 01:30 PM
At least QF :worship:
I was right :D
